That's funny they release the first software update before the hardware is available in stores. I undestand 27" iMac, though.
I have the feeling that in today's industry nobody can wait: why, simply, do not launch an item when ready, instead of pre-launch in weeks before, to figure out that it needs an upgrade, and so on?

This isn't an update to the capabilities of the magic mouse. This is an update to the OS so that it can work with the mouse.

I'm a bit disappointed...

The Mighty Mouse Wireless had horrible tracking and was very inexact, near frustrating to use actually.

Apple didn't really fix this in the Magic Mouse, I gave it a whirl at the store and I found that it still is "fuzzy" at best. (Yes I tried multiple ones)

It could of course be the wooden surface that apple has in their stores, but they would likely choose the most suitable surface for their mice to work on.

I guess there is only one way to find out: buy one and see how it works in the long run, and if it doesn't work, then I'll just throw it in a box with the mighty mouse :p ...

I have a beech wood desk and the mighty mouse is unuseable on it. But completely flawless on a mousepad or just about anything else. I have also had macally, Kensington, and other apple mice and they're all the same. Something about wood grain just throws an optical mouse.

Do NOT use rechargeable batteries for mouse. It does not help at all. Just use regular batteries.

Why?
Maybe it does not help with the charge length. But surely helps reducing pollution from used batteries. Used alkaline batteries are theworst pollutant in the world, at the moment.
I think that disposable battery producers should be made responsible to recycle and recollect them, for free.

I'm sorry but...

These things are lovely and the multitouch is stellar. But for me, it is just unusable. You cannot 'cup' it with your hand. It is more like you just lay your palm on it. I understand it needs a fairly flat top for the multitouch to work but I could see this killing my hand after a day of use.

Mine is going to be returned. :(

I stopped by the Apple Store last weekend to play with one and I have to say the biggest thing I noticed were the sharp edges around the entire top section of the mouse. Definitely could not use this for long periods of time, certainly not worth 70 bucks to me. I am, however, looking for a bluetooth mouse. Really wish they had a bluetooth version of the MS Explorer Bluetrack mouse. Those things are great, but I don't want it taking up a USB port on my MBP.

I was about to order one until I found out it doesn't have middle click :/

i use middle click to open links in a new tab. I don't think I could live without it.

I was going to order one until I discovered you can't do a tap to click like on a trackpad. The whole body clicks like the mighty mouse did, and even though it is touch sensitive, it doesn't offer tap to click. Boooo!

I have a wireless Mighty Mouse at work and i have to change the batteries every 2-3 weeks because they lose power. Any word if the Magic Mouse lasts any longer?

When it has been out longer than 3 weeks maybe someone can tell you

Magic Mouse

Been using the Magic Mouse with my iMac for a couple days and absolutely love it. I love the few gestures it does do but most intensely enjoy the momentum scrolling. I can fly through hundreds of lines of code in XCode with great ease. Very good experience. But then again I also enjoyed the Mighty Mouse if you don't count the random disconnects I got...

we also purchased a new imac w/ the new magic mouse and i think its pretty awesome -- not uncomfortable to use at all. i also ordered one for my mac pro last week and still not shipped...

This "restart is required" crap is beginning to annoy the s**t out of me with Mac OS X and it is happening more and more often.

If I wanted this for basic drivers and other minor patches I would have stuck with Windoze....

Apple, seriously.....

Sure, because the absence of restarting is THE difference between Windows and OS X.

Man, seriously....

I am amazed that so many would order a mouse without never actually holding or using it. Moreover, considering apple's track record in this category, I would be even more skeptical.

I gave it a quick test drive and came away with negative impression. The ergonomics, price and missing functionalities were a dealbreaker for me.

I'll apologize in advance in case you actually do have a disability of your left arm, but is holding down the Control key while you click really such a massive obstacle? I've heard of laziness, but these gripes about 'no middle button' are hysterical.

As for the Magic Mouse's availability, I've seen childish whining, but this takes the cake.

What are you talking about?... the whole body does NOT click. You simply tap.

I tried one out over the weekend, and they're killer. They are NOT trackpads. A moving trackpad makes no sense. But I bought (and am about to return) a Bamboo pen/touch. They're ok, but have a lag I really don't like. I've also notice stutter and unpredictability that I just don't like.

I'll be picking up the Magic Mouse as soon as they're available. And if that's not for another week, my life is not going to end.

Get a grip folks.

FWIW...just got off the phone with the local Apple Store in CT. They said their shipment of Magic "Mice" are en route and should be in stock later this week. Is anyone else able to purchase one in an Apple Store yet?

I think the point here is that this mouse is supposed to be an advancement in technology, not a regression.

There are plenty of situations, for example when using CAD or 3D software, where being able to click more than one button at a time is a serious aid to productivity.

Just because you, in your limited capacity, don't need a middle button, don't assume that this is the same for everyone.

Lots of people actually use Macs for serious work, not just as toys as this 'magic' (mickey?) mouse would seem to indicate.
