Apple Releases MobileMe iDisk Application for iPhone

Hhmm

Great, but can someone tell me what video formats will actually play on the iphone via the idisk programme, because for the life of me i cant find one that does. Ive tried H264, .Mov, MP4. Nothing works. Its tried to load then comes up with an error about the file format isnt supported?! What, it doesnt support its own file format??

I've been able to play some movies I've encoded with Handbrake in H264 format. The specs of my video is JVT/AVC Coding, 720 x 480 (851 x 480), Millions AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz. The file size is 1.04GB. And being able to stream that right off the iphone 3GS over wifi is impressive although it may need some loading time. I have not tried streaming over 3G network, but I'll try when I have a chance to. :)

Dude. You are talking about a few dollars.

Please get a life.

I'll pay the extra $ to be able to get renewed automatically every year.

Look at it this way, "dude"... at $50, you could get two years subscription for pretty much the same price you're happy to pay for one year.

Even if you're rolling in it, you'd be a fool to pass that up.

Should it really take 3 minutes to load a 16mb PDF file on my iphone? How the hell am I suppose to watch a video saved on my iDisk if the wait time I'm experiencing is normal?

Dude I'm paying $149.00 for five accounts (family pack). You do the math. ($29.80 per account)
And it has audo renewal.

I like it

I'm not a guru by any stretch but enjoy "nice to have" things. This app is one. The combo of an iPhone & this app is like being at home. Highly recommend it.

MobileMe

I am a retired senior citizen. At home I have a 13" Intel white MacBook (that I also travel with) for me & an iMac for my wife. Also I have an eMac (wireless) in my condo in another state. Lastly, I have an iPhone. I purchase MobileMe annually on eBay for about $60 & feel the money is well spent. I love the syncing Cal & Contacts & now with the new iPhone app, everything I want/need is there in every (well almost) place. Sometimes spending a few bucks "frivolously" makes life so much better. Just a little less for the kids :D

It seems that there needs to be an update to the iPhone's photo app. Now with the 3GS' video capabilities it gives you the option to upload to mobileme but places the videos in your photo albums on mobileme instead of giving you the option to put them on iDisk. I'd like to be able to upload directly to iDisk from the phone. As it stands now I have to move the videos from my phone to the Mac to iDisk. That sucks.

Am I missing something?

will this also allow you to have access to files that may be backed up on a time capsule? seems like apple had some kind of way you could do that. i havent gotten my time capsule yet - but it seemed there was a way to see your files anywehre now w/mobileme - not necessarily view them via iphone.

This is a great and simple app.
But as for me I'd like to get some more features (bookmarks, e-mail, saving attachements, organizing files and folders). That's why I'll keep on using OneDisk.

It's not really meant for video. I believe *a few* iDisk apps on the Store do play a very limited amount of video. I'm not sure which type, though.

In an ideal situation, I's use iGet Mobile instead (a wonderfully easy to use personal webserver) but it's quite spotty in terms of a reliable connection.

While Apple's iDisk app is great (and it's free), I'd recommend Air Sharing Pro. Depends on your needs but Air Sharing Pro is far more full featured and just as easy to use.

Trouble with Documents

Hey I am having trouble with the Document Files.

I am using Open Office and have tried 6 or 7 different files types....from the stardard Open Office .odt...to Word....doc....and several others.

They upload fine...but I when I go to view them in the iPhone it says "this file type is not supported."

I have not seen a complete list of supported files types...just this.

View iPhone-supported file types-including iWork, Office, PDF, QuickTime and more. (Files larger than 20MB may not be viewable.)

Any idea where I could get a full list of what is supported document wise ?

Everything else...music....movies..pictures...work perfectly ! :)

Thanks for any help !

Just wanted to say that I got it now !

I kept trying and on the 3rd try it let me upload the same file it wouldn't' upload at all....and it shows on the iPhone too.....I think it must be the kinks with it being new.

I hear the next upcoming app is Boot Camp Mobile.

You'll reboot your iPhone, and immediately hold down the Home button. You can then boot into Windows Mobile and use all of your WinMo apps at native speeds right on your iPhone.*

:D

*Windows Mobile sold separately.

"Windows Mobile" is being renamed "Windows Phone".

No, really.

yeah, i just upgraded from AS to ASP. Much better than the idisk app except opening big files is much slower in ASP... not sure why.

To be honest, this app is useless for me because I own OneDisk. (i've been using it for half a year already). Here are some pros of it:

-e-Mail

-files/folders organizing

-password protection

-zip/unzip

I've been curious. What's the difference between OneDisk and ReaddleDocs?

in my imagination RDocs must be some kind of all in one apps, and OneDisk is focused on work with iDisk.

Exactly, Readdledocs is more advanced solution. It allows you to save email attachments, Save documents directly from the Web and some other things.
