You only have to do it once. Is it too much to ask?

Yeah, it is! :D

</sarcasm>

This is the same company that will let you put your AppleID in during a computer setup and automatically enter your name, address and the rest of your personal information as well as set up your email for you (or so I've been told regarding the email).

He didn't know that an app named MobileMe iDisk required MobileMe. Yeah, must be false advertising.

smarty pants, the "false advertising" I originally noted was in quotes meaning the comment was sarcastic. i'm talking about when it was first announced, it was being advertised as "iDisk for your iPhone". Not MOBILEME IDISK as it is now. I thought it was a generalized app for both mobileme and non-mobileme users. However, I stand by my rating/review as the functionality is there but non-mobileme users like myself are being snubbed. Since this is the case, Apple shouldn't allow a non-mobileme user to download the app if I can't use it. Christ people. I can see I'm alone on this, so I'll just move along.

snubbed? Why should you get an iPhone application when you aren't paying for the service?

But on the positive side, your not paying $99/yr for a crappy service, don't worry about it.

Ok, are there any prerequisites you need to have other than the iPhone? <----LoL

What is Idisk and do I need Mobile me?

I've never seen mobileme for less than the equiv. of $70 (£42.99 from some ebay sellers) in the UK... that is if you discount the scams where they buy family packs and sell you access to a sub account.

It's just not worth that much to me.. I like the idea of idisk (even if it is hellishly slow, it's better than nothing) but the only other feature I'm interested in potentially would be the email, and that lacks both server side filters and the ability to use your own domain so isn't suitable. For just the idisk and maybe the find my iphone feature I reckon I could part with £10 a year..

The other features that I like about MobileMe are: the calendar and address book synching. I've tried for years to use a daytimer etc. but finally with this I can add contacts and dates in my calendars, then when I get home they are synched on all my computers. I know that Google offers similar things, but honestly I have no free time and I like everything all in one place. It just plain works for me.

Why don't you just sign up for the free 60 day trial?
You should be able to tell if you *NEED* it or not after 60 days I am sure.:p

seting up google syncing doens´t take a lot of time. if you are a long-term google user like me it just takes a few minutes and boom free calendar ota-sync.i've used it several months and it just works fine.
but i can understand that macusers prefer mobileme because of the allin1-solution apple offers (ical, idisk, mail etc.).

+1 Absolutely the calendar and contact sync makes it very worth it for me. I also really like the gallery. Sure I have a photobucket account, but I can directly upload from iMovie or iPhoto to my MobileMe Gallery and it all works great for me. Yes, there are other services out there that do the job for less (or even free in Google's case from what I understand), but MobileMe integrates well between my MBP and my iPhone so it is what I'm sticking with for now.

It's about time. Pages and Numbers for iPhone now please.

Getting closer and closer to being able to ditch my BlackBerry...

I'm liking this app, I've tried a few of the 3rd party apps that do the same thing, and so far this seems to do the job better and it's free.

if i publish a video from my 3gs to mobileme.... is it accessible from idisk, whether it be from my mac or phone? i cannot figure this out... i understand its on my gallery on me.com, but what about on idisk? tia.

Loving this app, nice one Apple, worth the wait and a nice little bonus for having to pay for a MobileMe subscription

You can view your movie by visiting your Gallery at gallery.me.com/membername. Just type that URL into Safari on your iPhone.

The files used in your Gallery are stored on your iDisk, but they're hidden in your Sites folder. I doubt you'd want to be poking around in there, but if you do, go to Settings and enable Show System Folders, then look inside Web > Sites > _gallery > etc.

The iDisk app is for viewing files on your iDisk. While it can display JPEGs and MOVs, it's not intended to be a photo viewing/movie watching app. It does a pretty sweet job of viewing movies stored on your iDisk though!

is it just me or does it take FOREVER to view files saved on idisk on the iPhone?

I tried to open a 16mb pdf file and it took 3 minutes to "download", "stream" (whatever it's called). Not to mention I have to keep touching the screen so it doesn't go to sleep forcing me to restart the whole process.

great, thank you so much for this information. i guess if i want to store it on idisk i can put it directly in my idisk from my mac, thanks again for this!

iDisk is a service that comes with MobileMe. It's not a general file transfer service. And why are you complaining so much about it? Did you pay for it? You can just delete it and get another app that does what you want, like AirSharing.

Well I just uploaded a 1.1 gb movie to my iDisk folder on MobileMe.
I sent a share link and it opened and played fine on the other persons laptop but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get it to play on my own iPhone. Shouldn't I be able to open and play this movie going through the new iPhone iDisk App and accessing the movie either by download (doubtful) or at least stream?:confused::confused:
I get an error saying "This movie could not be played"

PDF Viewing...

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I tried viewing a PDF file stored in iDisk on my iPod, and even though it did open the file, it was unreadable! Letters in both title and context were above each other and kinda made the whole point of this app useless :( hope there's a fix for this soon (I've seen this PDF file lots of times on my macbook with no problem whatsoever)

Why would it not render PDFs accurately?

Nearly all the iDisk apps out there currently can view PDFs just fine.

Frankly, Air Sharing Pro costs a bit, but it's a joy to use. It's very well done and I recommend it.

You need to compress it first in settings.
Anything over 1GB needs compressing first.

That is one of the files I loaded onto my iDisk at my house. It is only 130MB, not really that large of a file. I was using it as a test, my smaller files work fine. Just seems odd the cap would be so low imo.
