This form has always been critical, but within the last two years the mood has severely shifted. Is it people have become more critical, or Apple's bar is WAY down with Captain Dongle head in change.

I think it's the latter, with Tim Cook only out doing himself with stupider products. You can say you are surprised, I was surprised with a 10k gold product but wasn't too surprised that it only lasted one year :S

It's definitely caused by the latter. I and many others WANT to like Apple. They just make it so hard. The crazy thing is: what we want is actually not that challenging to create, for Apple. Swappable memory & SSD. Proper ports, proper keyboard. Up-to-date processor. That's all...

Maybe I’m a bit daft, but what exactly do the exploding lightbulbs mean?

Thats exactly the point. We usually associate an new idea with a light that goes on and not out.
This video to me has the undertone, that so many roads close and other approaches disappear because somebody else decides how I should use my tools.

Here's another spin for you:

Out of all of those discoveries displayed in the ad, it was the human mind that was the tool which was ultimately used to come up with all of the "ideas". Portraying a single product like the MacBook Pro with Touch Bar in a manner such as this to imply that it's better than the human brain, is ... courageous.

Nice commercial, but it misses the point entirely. For 1 minute : 30 seconds, I understand nothing about Apple's new MacBook and left not interested in buying it once it finishes.

All the ad says is that the Touch Bar ain't a feature. And here's the ad not showing it.

People know when something is moving the world forward. They don't need to be repeatedly told it through a lame commercial.

Keep it to 30 seconds < and keep it precise.

I think the Touch Bar is a neat future, to be honest. The Function key row goes unused for most people in their daily computing and this lets that space be what it needs to be. You don't need to sell me on that, Apple.

You just need to put it on a computer that's more function for everything else.
The function key row hosts volume and brightness.
I use the function key rows every day for the above and in the apps I use.

Penicillin was a discovery that moved the world forward; Touch Bar is a pressure-sensitive strip on a laptop keyboard.

This ad smacks of arrogance.
True, I think Apple have lost the plot comparing the touch panel to the true innovations in that video.

I saw the touch strip today, laptop was locked so could only play with brightness button. Was quite neat. I can't touch type function keys so would always be looking at the function keys.

don't get the idea why that many bulbs have to be destroyed… (real or rendered)
would be better to just turn them on one by one

Because the bulbs represent ideas. Ideas that come from the mind. All of the bulbs being blown up is supposed to be a metaphor for our minds being blown.

"Here's our new Touch Bar MacBook Pro ... *sploosh* *mind blown*"

Gotta be one of the more silly ads I've seen in quite some time.

I don't think it's either really. More specifically I believe Apple's world has been flooded with newcomers, and dare I say maybe even a lot of younger people, who don't really have a deep understanding or historic knowledge of Apple and how they've grown and evolved within the last 40 years.

So let's just agree to disagree.

they are so narcissistic - awe cute. LOL that ad was terribly annoying and way too long.

I think you guys missed the point of the ad... They are calling it a tool for great ideas, not necessarily the great idea itself. That's why they kept showing the guy making fire using simple tools like rocks.

Wow you get an A for effort for quoting all these comments.

I got that perfectly fine, and the fact that you all view that in a positive light is baffling to me.

When you look at all the ways Apple has given us creative pros the middle finger over the last 5 years this ad is really like the ultimate kick-in-the-crotch to top it all off.

I've been an Apple-lover for 15 years and this ad seems to really be a great big final ****-you to people like me. Like they're gloating over the way they've treated us.

You think maybe THAT's where the negative reactions are coming from? And not that we didn't "get it?"

You can't make up the message and say it's right. You can't say you read "Hitler ws a good person" in the ad and judge it by that. It totally doesn't say "there's been the fire, the wheel and then, at the top of great inventions of mankind, our silly touch bar", that would be the most arrogant spot ever. Apple could do that for an iPhone, they're arrogant enough, but this is not the message here. It's just not.
They insinst on what people could invent using the bar as a tool, not on the bar.
I can repeat it, but I don't think you'll ever understand. Watch the spot again, read what it says, please. And don't judge things you didn't carefully watch.

The Touch Bar right up there with the invention of the airplane...Really?? I love Apple but this just goes too far. Just because it takes you years to develop something doesn't make it the next great world changing product. Its a semi-useful feature at best and certainly not a gotta have it now product.

Should have used exploding Samsung phones instead of lightbulbs - now that would have been worth seeing!

It's a very long advert for a very short look at the MBP at the end. They've done better ads...

I really think Apple has lost its way - form over function, thinner and less useful, glitzy ads about changing the world as a substitute for actual innovation.

If a touch bar is such an amazing thing, then isn't it much more amazing to have a touch screen?
