Wow...most arrogant ad ever! And I'm a so called fanboy...
I saw the ad showcasing the MacBook as a tool to give the great ideas life and turn them into something more than just ideas - Never saw Apple putting the new MBP up there with major inventions...

Stop taking everything about this laptop and every single news about it so personally - it's a freaking computer

...But you can scrub trough a video by sliding your finger on the touch pad already... as well as on products with touch screens like the iPhone, iPad, iPod, and uh... the MS Surface.

even better, apps like FCP have an simple yet elegant and effective solution.

You can't even fat finger this (well nothing is impossible, just improbable I guess).

Penicillin was a discovery that moved the world forward; Touch Bar is a pressure-sensitive strip on a laptop keyboard.

This ad smacks of arrogance.
The message was simple and you and many other people managed not to understand it.
The touch bar is not advertised as a great idea like the other ones shown but as a tool that make it easier for creative people to invent important stuff like that.
Call me next time you can't understand an ad, before you comment.

is the touchbar really only about the middle third of the bar (as the ad suggests)? i think i had in mind that it was the entire width of the keyboard. that's what the ad showed me -- a finger moving a couple of inches could turn a lightbulb on and off -- a picture of a lightbulb. i saw nothing innovative about that -- could do the same thing on the trackpad. the f keys give me tactile, location-specific controls of a variety of functions that don't cause me to take my eyes from the screen. oh well....

Apple used to make beautiful and elegant ads. What is this madness? Hate the new marketing direction.

But you could say that about any modern computer. My takeaway was Apple thinks THIS specific computer is uniquely capable of bringing the world's next greatest ideas to life thanks to the touch bar. Which, I think is fair to say, is laughable.
Fair point, but getting technical they did say "a tool", not "the tool". Nowhere in the ad did they actually claim to do what nobody else could do, even if that was the feeling conveyed. Definitely would have been a better ad if they featured more performance and not just the touch bar IMO.

I got that perfectly fine, and the fact that you all view that in a positive light is baffling to me.

When you look at all the ways Apple has given us creative pros the middle finger over the last 5 years this ad is really like the ultimate kick-in-the-crotch to top it all off.

I've been an Apple-lover for 15 years and this ad seems to really be a great big final ****-you to people like me. Like they're gloating over the way they've treated us.

You think maybe THAT's where the negative reactions are coming from? And not that we didn't "get it?"

How are the features on the touch bar not location specific?

[People] here think the ad was about the touch bar itself, when it was, in fact, about the user, and what they will create with a new tool.
Also, for those who don't get it: The lightbulbs were "ideas". Each one exploded in the past by a newer idea.

I don't know why a touch bar should be seen as revolutionary if you can have devices of the competitors that offer entire touch screens. So i think this ad is a bit dumb.

Surprised that this forum complains and rejects? It isn't just this ad. It's every single article.

Come on now. ;)

This form has always been critical, but within the last two years the mood has severely shifted. Is it people have become more critical, or Apple's bar is WAY down with Captain Dongle head in change.

I think it's the latter, with Tim Cook only out doing himself with stupider products. You can say you are surprised, I was surprised with a 10k gold product but wasn't too surprised that it only lasted one year :S

Pretty appropriate to use a product designed for planned obsolescence (or limited lifespan) as the central pillar of your advertising campaign...

Crap ad. Cinematography was good, in fact excellent but the ad was crap.
Now I've been told over and over again on this forum that Apple ads are about actually using the product, (which I saw for 5 seconds), or about life and enjoying family and friends, (didn't see any sign of either).
So ......?

apple hubris on full display. shark, jumped.

I agree.

FWIW, I use the function keys every day for pro work (music production: Pro Tools, Digital Performer, and Sibelius).

I've tried to read and watch reviews of the touch bar with an open mind, but it remains a non-starter for me. Every time I see a reviewer raving about the easy access to emoji, I die a little inside. :)

Yeah...about that...I think there are a lot of people who didn't get the ad. It doesn't dwell on the actual product for very long at all. Something Apple was known for in most of its ads. Just exploding lightbulbs. So Apple wants me to buy...lightbulbs?

No, they are not. They are equating the MBP with the rock that started the fire. They are calling it a tool, not an innovation in and of itself.

Isn't that the truth. Innovative it is not.

What the **** did I just watch?

Groundbreaking ideas, and then it ends with a ****ing finger swiping a lightbulb exploding on a stupid touch bar...

Are you ****ing kidding me..

Oh, oh …… does this ad. mean that the glass made touch bar will explode like these lightbulbs? Perhaps it depends which dongle you’re using.
