I found that the fastest and most reliable way to update the firmware on my AirPods 2 is to plug them into my M1 Macbook Air with the USB-C to Lightning cable.

They update instantly!

This is much better than the other method of "just wait and it should force the update after a short period of time."

:)
Thanks for the tip but doesn't work so far for my AirPods Pro 1st generation
Frustration
I will keep them connected longer ...maybe being older takes more time 😉

Update: It worked keeping the box connected to a charger over (physically ) an iPhone and after 5 min it was done

Well, I really hope this firmware fixes the connectivity issues I have with my APM, it's really getting annoying at this point, I have to reboot them every time I want to use them.

Let’s hope this fixes the insane battery drain. I’ll fully charge my AirPods Pro 2 and with light usage the case will be down to 30-50% in 24 hours.

EDIT: either I read the article wrong or they edited the OP, but the APP2 will not receive this firmware update. Here's hoping a later update fixes the excessive battery drain.
it's my first time using an Airpods. It's quite annoying it didn't stop charging eventho it's 100% charged. Will it damage my AirPods battery overtime it this keep happening?

Don't devices stop the charging internally when they reach 100%?

I thought there were protections in place.

People frequently plug in their phones to charge overnight when they sleep. But I'm pretty sure it doesn't take 8 hours to charge a phone. It's probably finished in just 2 hours or less.

So that's 6 hours of extra charging every night.

🤔

I don't know if I'm the only one, but I have weird issues in transparency mode with AirPods Pro 2. One of the AirPods is sounding like if it was coming through a fan. I already got one pair replaced for that same reason, but after only a few days I had the same issue with one of the two new earbuds.

Edit: Seems like I'm not the only one:
Edit 2: Correction

Haven't noticed much change, other than a slight improvement in bass response, but that's subjective.
ANC works as well as it ever has, so that's good - didn't want a degradation of ANC, so I am fairly ambivalent about this update.

Apple today introduced new 5B59 firmware for the AirPods 2, the AirPods 3, the original AirPods Pro, and the AirPods Max, up from the 5B58 firmware that was released in November.

AirPods-3-New-Firmware-Feature.jpg

Apple does not offer immediately available release notes on what's included in refreshed firmware updates for the AirPods‌, but the company does maintain a support document with release information.

There is no standard way to upgrade the ‌AirPods‌‌ software, but firmware is installed over-the-air while the ‌‌AirPods‌‌ are connected to an iOS device. Putting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ in the case, connecting the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to a power source, and then pairing the ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌ to an iPhone or an iPad should force the update after a short period of time.

You can check your ‌‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌‌ firmware by following these steps:
  • Connect your ‌‌AirPods‌‌ or ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods Pro‌‌‌‌‌ to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap ‌‌‌‌‌AirPods‌‌‌‌‌.
  • Look at the number next to "Firmware Version."
If we find notable changes after the firmware updates are installed, we'll update this article, but the software likely includes performance improvements and bug fixes.

Hi, does anyone pls know why Apple decided to update all other Airpods to the latest software and left the AirPods Pro 2 out. Would expect as the tradition is to first update the latest products line then come the others, or do we expect something higher than the others for AirPods Pro 2, perhaps it’s like saving the best for last.

Not sure if it's placebo or not, but I feel like the audio quality is just slightly worse than before on my AirPods Max. The sounds seem just slightly washed out for everything and the bass is no longer "punchy" which I really liked. I remember Music always sounded fantastic on my Mac using the Max's and movies/TV were just OK. But now everything sounds like movies/TV.

I just received a replacement pair of AirPods Max (via Apple Care) and prior to this firmware update, they sounded great. Afterwards, not so much. It could be placebo but seems odd they sounded way better just this morning.
