One day, I hope we can just plug the darn things into a computer and update via Finder. Its been years of firmware updates and updating is so inconsistent. Sometimes it takes right away and sometimes it takes 2-3 days.
You can plug them into your Mac and they will update in the background, sometimes quicker than via bluetooth from your iPhone, but you still can't manually start the update process.

My USB-C buds are on 6A305 but the case still on 60.82.0. I haven't noticed any changes yet.

I did not realize. I knew it could be updated from Mac now, but I figured it still meant you needed to use the Airpods for 15+ minutes then connect them to the case and so forth. I still wish there was an update now button though. but thank you!

My AirPods Pro have disconnected from my iPhone several times in the last few days. Is this a fix? What is AirPods Pro 2? Maybe mine aren't 2s. Thanks Apple for clearly named devices.

Hopefully this resolves a nasty bug. I don't know if it's called a handoff bug or disconnect bug, and even whether this is a bug with the firmware or perhaps it's a bug with WatchOS 10.x or iOS 17.x

Here's the issue: Right before I go out for my run, I start playing a podcast on my Watch that is connected to my AirPods Pro 2. I make sure that the Watch is actually playing a podcast that is downloaded to the Watch and not just remotely controlling my iPhone. I leave my iPhone at home. Then, I start my workout and go out for my run. In about ½ block down the street, suddenly my AirPods lose connection and the Podcast app on the Watch isn't operating correctly; play functions don't work.

Basically what I think is happening is that since AirPods can be connected to both iPhone and Watch at the same time, after I'm about ½ block down the street, the AirPods and Watch loses connection with the iPhone and suddenly haywire begins.

To continue playing podcast, I first have to force quit the Podcast app on my Watch, then reload it, and then connect it to the AirPods Pro. Once that happens, I can continue with my run.

This issue did not use to be back when I was using WatchOS 9, whatever firmware the APP was on at the time and iOS 16. Yes, I could hear some stuttering as the Watch/APP lost connection with the phone but after a few blips everything would reconnect automatically (in just about 1 or 2 seconds) and playback would continue without manual intervention.

I have no workaround except to turn off my phone before I run so that the AirPods are only connected to Watch and not to Watch and iPhone at the same time.

Ugh. Mine finally updated last night around 022 PST. Maybe they will update tonight.

It really would be nice to block updates, like how you can with HomePods. I treat my OG’s cautiously when it comes to updating them.

As OP also said, Finder updates would be even better 🫣🎧

My case is still at 54.26.1 but the buds did upgrade from 303 to 305. They sound a little more bright and airy. Which I kinda prefer tbh. So all is good. However, the weird thing is that both my APP2 cases are stuck on the old firmware version (yes I have 2 APP2). What’s going on here?!

Which iPhone do you have ? I think it’s by iPhone model

Did they really dial it back? I thought mine didn’t work as well as they once did.

It's been proven exactly once, like 4 years ago, and people here and on Reddit haven't shut up about it since. Every time Apple pushes an update, half the people claim ANC is "ruined" and the other half claim it's never been better. In reality, the placebo effect is powerful.

Not entirely true. Somehow Apple effed up the first gen APP’s noise cancellation. The APP2 has been nothing short of amazing and stellar performance in regard of noise cancellation.
