Apple Releases New Firmware for AirPods Pro 2

Lightning case, 14 Pro. At first the pods went from 303 to 305 and the case went from 60.82.0 to 54.26.1.

Then the case went back to 60.82.0.

Then the case went to 60.83.0.

I can't tell any differences yet.

Been having a lot of problems with Find My telling me I’ve left my AirPods behind even though they’re in my pocket. Have had the problem for years the last update seemed to have made it worse so hopefully this new one resolves some of that.

Time is actually not part of the dimensions. It was once thought of as the 4th dimension though.

Time is a temporal dimension, not a spatial dimension (and thus has no geometric point). It is measured from states of lower entropy to higher entropy in the same direction that humans observe it. Einstein called it the 4th dimension because we only perceive three spatial dimensions, but now there are additional hypothetical spatial dimensions used in mathematics, so when someone says the 4th spatial dimension, they do not mean time. Time exists in all spatial dimensions.

Huh so what is the 4th one?
depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go, time is generally considered the 4th dimension in colloquial speech (for ex see https://einstein.stanford.edu/content/relativity/q1832.html), but any dimensional measurement not represented by the 3 physical dimensions we typically think of space as can be the 4th dimension for the purposes of any given math or physics work

I was making a joke using the most common definition though in common parlance, not writing a physics treatise

when I bought the AirPods Pro (usb c) model unboxed it and tested the ANC is extremely strong, feels like I have to pop my ears like I'm on an airplane. After it automatically updated to 303 I felt the ANC is a lot weaker... no idea how 305 gonna be...

They really need to make a clear way to update the Airpods especially for the pros
Agreed. This has been working for me lately:

1) Put both pods in ears.
2) Play some audio for a couple of minutes.
3) Put both pods in case and close cover.
4) Put case next to locked iPhone.
5) Wait 15 minutes.

I have airpods pro 1 using an iphone 14 pro max and there are constant disconnect problems going on.
Started after updating to ios 17. 17.0.1 and 17.0.2 and 17.0.3 did nothing to address the issue.
Frustrating considering that ios 16x was fine.

Somehow Apple effed up the first gen APP’s noise cancellation.

That's what I said—some site tested ANC shortly after the original APPs were released in 2019 and showed that it had been slightly reduced after the first firmware update. But AFAIK it's never been shown since, but tons of people continue to claim after every single update that ANC is "ruined."

It's always hit or miss for me.

What has worked albeit more often than not is plugging it into my Mac and then placing them near my phone.

Not sure if it uses the mac and updates it immediately like the Mac does with the magsafe charging pad firmware updates but its more consistent when I've done it that way.

They should publish the change so people can decide to update or not. Also, they need to allow you to make that decision.

I'm not the only person to have them break my Airpods after they went out of warranty with a bad update.
Considering the only way to avoid updating is to never charge your AirPods or keep them out of range of every Apple device, how do you propose avoiding an update? Avoiding an update only leads you to never using your AirPods again.

I had AirPods Pro gen 1 and gen 2 on launch day. The AirPods Pro 2 are still not as good as the first Pros with that original firmware.
I have a feeling this is romanticizing what the original APP were since there’s no way to compare them side by side. I don’t remember the originals ever being as good as the new ones are today and I had both from Day 1 of their releases. The current APP2 are very, very good with ANC. Every week somebody runs leaf blowers right outside my window (maybe 15-20 feet away from me with only a window blocking noise), and the APP2 almost completely cancels them out to the point where I have to listen hard to hear them. I’m not even playing any music to cover it up. If I were, I wouldn’t be able to hear them at all.

If anyone remembers, Apple was sued for their algorithm on ANC way back then and was forced to change it, which was the actual impetus behind nerfing the ANC. It took them about two years to come up with a better algorithm to get back to where they were. Then the APP2 came out with a whole new H2. To me, the APP2 are better than the APP ever were, but again, I don’t have an original firmware to compare against, so this is just on memory.

Perhaps to an extent, but ever since they nerfed the originals I’ve noticed sound leaks through on both my gen 1 and gen 2 from the same sources that the original AirPods Pro firmware made nearly silent.

I’m convinced that Apple nerfed the original AirPods Pro and all future ANC implementations either because it was causing headaches or damage to the drivers, or out of potential liability concern (what happens when someone using ANC gets hit by a car while crossing the street?). Hence why the new features are all focused on dynamic transparency: conversation awareness and adaptive mode.

I really don’t expect that Apple will ever make AirPods that noise cancel as well those original AirPods Pros with the launch firmware for these reasons.

My case is still at 54.26.1 but the buds did upgrade from 303 to 305. They sound a little more bright and airy. Which I kinda prefer tbh. So all is good. However, the weird thing is that both my APP2 cases are stuck on the old firmware version (yes I have 2 APP2). What’s going on here?!
Exactly. 🥳😎

That's exactly my point. We should be given an option to start the update - it should never happen on its own (or at least not without a setting to auto update).

Have there ever been any theories from audio engineering experts as to why the firmware gets tweaked so often? I would think that if they worked OK on release day, then they would/should continue to work the same until the batteries finally give out.

Bug fixes. Brandon Butch has a video out on the new firmware and points out a few bugs he says are fixed. Apple’s release notes actually say bug fixes and other improvements. While vague, they’re better than Google release notes, which talk about altering the space time continuum or finding Pokémon and never have a thing to do with what they actually change. Better vague than nonsense.

Thanks. I checked out the video. Interesting.

He says the update fixed Adaptive Transparency for his APP 2's, but the update did nothing for mine. Adaptive Transparency still doesn't cancel any noise whatsoever, unfortunately.

My AirPods Pro have disconnected from my iPhone several times in the last few days. Is this a fix? What is AirPods Pro 2? Maybe mine aren't 2s. Thanks Apple for clearly named devices.
The customer absolutely has a responsibility to know what product they are using.

Next to the entry for the AirPods firmware version will be an arrow. Click that and it will show you both the AirPods firmware version (again) and the case firmware version.
It's not there. Only shows the pods firmware.

My Airpods Pro 2 firmware is stuck at 6A301, but the case is upgraded to 60.82.0. Did all tips all over the internet but the buds never upgraded. Anyone who experienced this?
