Some people hate that use of the word "magical" just as some people hated the "I'm a Mac" ads. But the way we talk in everyday life is not always the way language is used in marketing. Are Keebler cookies really made with "magic" by elves? No. Are Lucky Charms actually "magically" delicious? No. But both campaigns have been wildly successful for decades.

"Magic" as a marketing term is understood and accepted. Except by picky geeks who always think they know more than Apple and its partners.

Pretty dumb ad if you ask me. Especially compared to Apple's history of witty and snazzy commercials.

"Artful"?! In the name of God tied to a puppy and eating calamari! Why can't they just say artistic like a normal person!? </rant>

That commercial was alright (except for "artful"), and that astronomy app really is magical. So much better than fifteen different charts!

EDIT: To the guy above, it's GoSkyWatchPlanetarium. Stupid name, great app! (It's free too.)

Is "magical" now the focus of the descriptive-polizei? Like "funnest" was a year or two back? I think Apple is magical with how it riles up the angry, poor geeks.

Dumb is as stupid does.

Apple has a history of minimalist, classier commercials with snappy lil' tunes playing and white backgrounds.

$9.99 SUCKA!!!! ha ha ha. PSP ad was way better, not going to buy a PSP, but the ad was good.

I agree, I liked the PSP ad - entertaining. This ad is nice too.

Every time I hear the word Magical, I die a little inside.

It's not frickin magical. It's a computer. I use and enjoy my 64gb 3G iPad regularly - and it is many things - but Magical is not one.

It's just advertising ... no need to die a little... live a little is much better.

P.

The Astronomy app they show at the end is awesome and works exactly as shown. As an Astronomy buff, that app is "magical".

Yeah, that app looks fun. I wonder how it works? I know the 3G one has GPS, but how does it know which orientation you're holding it in? Does it also have a compass & a gyroscope in it, too? Just curious. Would be nice to have a camera in it, too for real augmented reality.

I love Apple for those commercials!
But i still want to see some I`m A Mac Ads:(((

Ha!

I love how none of the fingers touching the screen leave behind the slightest smudge marks -- now THAT'S false advertising!

Anyone know what the astronomy app is named?

edit: Maybe StarMap 3D? Can anyone confirm?

A great add, though I think by the time the iPad gets to Norway there will be a revised model.

I remember my grandparents talking about using chalk and a slate when they went to school, I wonder if the iPad or a device like it will be the future writing and learning tools for the kids? I guess it will save a lot of paper.

It's not frickin magical. It's very very obvious how it works. Accelerometers + Compass + GPS = device pointing at point in sky. It's the opposite of magical. I was using it at a camp site this weekend. 'Wow' 'Amazing' 'Awesome'.

All true.

But it's not magical. Magical would be if you could reach into the screen and pull out a rabbit, boom.

Except we are actually going from writing to finger painting. You can't write on the iPad, you either type (which is downright atrocious) or finger paint.

*sigh*

I explained the long history of marketing using the word "magical" and still we're getting the geeks who simply will not accept that the whole world does not think the way they do.

It's not meant literally!

So continue to whine about "magical" if you want, but the rest of the world does not care. They know what Apple means and they get it.

There's no such thing as magic though is there? By your argument, the word can only exist in fiction.

Rabbits out of hats aren't magic - it's just physics and misdirection.
