It makes sense to have separate apps for each media type but have the settings all confined into the OS X System Prefs pane rather than the the apps.

I'm still waiting for iTunes to allow external harddrive sync like third party apps like TuneSpan.

Bring back "iSync" as the conduit. Shift iTunes for music, iMovie for editing and the Movie/TV store, iBooks is already separate, Bring the iOS Store into OS X App Store, then release the new Photo's app. Keep iTunes for Windows the same, save the trouble of Windows version app's which is primarily why Apple hasn't overhauled iTunes.

In some sense, they already have done this in iTunes 12. You can only access iTunes stores for corresponding media while in that media in your library, however that requires jumping from media category to category to access different media stores.

Yet another fantastic product coming out of the "greatest product pipeline in 25 years." You gotta be <beeping> me... iTunes needs to have the music and store functionality torn apart and reintroduce iSync to manage all syncing with devices rather than expect iTunes to do TV, movies, music, apps, syncing, etc. as it's slow and bloated.

Nah, iTunes just needs a rewrite since many parts are using 15 year old code, still. Store and player should be together, that's really convenient, but not being able to browse or pause or play during importing or tagging process is absurd in 2014.

New and destructive bug for me: Can no longer paste text with line breaks in the lyrics field. For a DJ who pastes playlists into this field this is completely unworkable for me :(

EDIT: I see I'm not the only one. And as a bonus you can't actually edit anything but creating line breaks. This will be fun creating 80 line breaks in a tag

as if ... future iOS versions usually require the latest iTunes and i doubt Apple would be stupid enough to exclude Mavericks users from updating their iPhone to the latest iOS on their mac

You forget that Apple have already added all current and future iOS 8 update support for iTunes 11 and they will surely keep doing this for iTunes 11. Instead of making a Mavericks and older compatible iTunes 12 which would need much re-coding.

Previous iTunes releases could be released to previous OS X versions but it seems unlikely to add a flat, OS X Yosemite style iTunes to Mavericks and backwards.

It would be like if iOS 6 users would get the same iTunes Store interface as iOS 7 users. Trust me, it's very unlikely.

What about (MS) Windows? iTunes 12 would fit in there much better than iTunes 11 did (especially on Windows 8 and 10)?

It would make more sense to add it to Windows 8/10 yes, considering Windows has gone totally flat (literally) but at the same time, why can't they make an own Windows design for it? Even iTunes 12 would not be flat enough to really fit in with Windows 8/10.

Considering there are millions using iTunes on Windows they could take some time to make a own design for Windows. It would not be like Apple to do so and Steve would jump out of his grave but still.

iTunes 12 will almost certainly not be for OS X 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 and so on due to Apple's new flat design for everything. They want people to update to their latest release and I can't see why people want the new iTunes 12 on older releases of OS X when they can just update and get it there.

Apple will probably just keep adding iOS 8, 9 and so on support for iPhones like they already have for iTunes 11.

Hate to sound like an idiot but where does one find this, it's not being offered in Software Update. I just installed Yosemite Beta 4

Update Server Error

When I click on Updates I get the following:

"An error has occurred" and then "Can't connect to the Software Update server (swscan.apple.com)."

Please help. Running 10.10 beta

You probably already have it installed as part of Beta 4. i did the full installer update on two of my machines to OSX GM and that gave them the latest iTunes (12.0.0.140) at the time. The last one I did the OSX delta update to and that found an updated iTunes a couple of days ago to get up to the same version.

if you have 12.0.0.140 you've got the one talked about in this thread.

Has anyone else here been having the issue where each time iTunes loads it asks me to either allow or deny it incoming connections? This started happening after the 12.0.0.140 update. I had this in the past with 10 and 11, and usually deleting the app and replacing it with a downloaded version fixed it. However, not only can I not download iTunes 12 directly, but Yosemite doesn't even allow me to delete the iTunes app.

I've tried repairing permissions, deleting the iTunes entry in the firewall, etc., to no avail.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat. Been running Beta 4 since the first day of release and iTunes 12 is MIA. Software Update doesn't wanna grab it for me either. Weird, but I don't think we're the only idjits in this position...

Any assistance would be much appreciated. I've searched high and low for a direct download link to no avail.

Did you read my answer? What version do you have currently?

Whaaa? They finally fixed the UI! never thought this was going to happen :D

Not in English. They have different meanings.

In many languages they are equal as well, this includes most Scandinavian languages. It took me a fair while to unlearn this when moving to an English speaking country. Please do not assume words mean the same to everyone even if in the same language.
