Cool! I like how the shipping time is 1-3 days. Compared with those of us who ordered a 17" model last time and had to wait over 3 weeks with no explanation. That's why I have the signature I do now. ;)

YEEE HAAH!

Macbook Pro..
Here I come...............................

This is what I have been waiting for since Nov'06. Thank You. Forget the wait for Leopard. I am sure the current specification of MBPs will be able to handle Leopard when it comes out...... boyoboyoboy am I happy that my patience has paid off!

Also, just spoke to the Apple sales department.. - they said the 15" models don't have LED displays.

My god the apple site must be lying so!

A great video processor powers a great display. The new MacBook Pro is available in 15-inch models with a new mercury-free, power-efficient LED-backlit display and a 17-inch model with an optional 1920-by-1200 pixel display.

Or maybe the apple sales team just haven't got the memo yet.

There's really not a problem, it takes a few seconds to edit the file plus a reboot into XP.

You don't have to type all of that code, but I posted all of it anyway. You just add " /3GB" to the end of the Windows installation

Code:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect [B]/3GB[/B]

And that's it really. The extra line is just another boot option if I don't want to boot with the 3GB switch enabled. You don't have to have it there if everything works fine.

Oh.. thanks.. you're such a savior. One more quick question from the noob: Will bootcamp/pararel support vista 32 bit?

Thanks a bunch!

Do you base your salary on US dollars? What about when the exchange rate was in favor of the dollar? Does your salary magically change based on the current exchange rate?
Salary is very important, AND makes it very difficult to work out costs across borders. What do you charge for hardware when it's sold in China? You're limited by your hardware costs of course. What about Software?

London is well known for high pay (to match high cost of living). So in some ways a slightly higher price works out to be equally economical. Unfortunately in Australia, our salaries are about even.
ie: A$1 = US$1
but the conversion rate is not so good. Ah well, damn.

Anyway, on the base MBP we now pay a premium of 10%, but until today we paid a premium of 21% (removing government taxes)... so I'm quite happy I held off buying.

Was thinking of this, but not sure if its worth it as the US prices don't include VAT. I'd have to cope with the wrong keyboard! ;)

Different states have different levels of tax, some none...

I'm using a US keyboard on my PowerBook G4, you can still 'pretend' it is a UK keyboard, and pressing shift-3 still gives a £ sign etc, it has never caused a problem.

Thank you Apple! I have been waiting almost a year to buy a MBP.

Now which one to get, 15" or 17"?

How well do you think the 8600M GT will drive 1920x1200? I know 1920x1200 is HD resolution (slightly higher), does the 8600M have HD hardware decoding?

will dell accuse apple of photocopy? since they get LED laptop first..

Since both probably started to order LED displays about the same time, but Dell released one first, they could claim photocopy. That is if Steve hadn't released some more of his famous thoughts the other week on LED backlights in Apple products. Apple could counter argue that it was obvious when Steve said:
To eliminate mercury in our displays, we need to transition from fluorescent lamps to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to illuminate the displays. Fortunately, all iPod displays already use LEDs for illumination, and therefore contain no mercury. We plan to introduce our first Macs with LED backlight technology in 2007. Our ability to completely eliminate fluorescent lamps in all of our displays depends on how fast the LCD industry can transition to LED backlighting for larger displays.
it was pretty obvious to most they were coming this year, more obviously very soon indeed.

Also, there is an option for 1920x1200 on the 17", which I thought should be standard. When it wasn't listed as a standard feature, and before I saw the option, I was heavily disappointed, but £60 more for this is a bargain in my books. Nice that 2GB is now standard and the graphics have been bumped, (bodes well for an iMac bump along similar lines in time for my 24 incher). I would still have liked to have seen another USB port added across the board and HDMI as standard too. But I can't complain with these too much for a price reduction in the UK too.

LED display technology sounds cool - but I'm glad I bought my MBP last fall. I can't help but think this Rev. A laptop will have its share of problems (which of course we'll hear about on MacRumors forums ad nauseum.

Here's the executive summary of this thread, for those of you just joining:

  • Only a .2GHz speed bump? L0s3r Apple...
  • What's this? I wanted my display to be made up of actual Christmas-light-style LEDs!
  • My HP Megabook has these same specs and I got it on eBay for $79 - AND it came with a free forklift!
  • OS X is worth $1900 to me over Wind0ze
  • Where's the 'any' key?
  • Did not!
  • Did too!

Awesome! I hope to order mine ASAP!

I am personally really happy they didn't redesign. I love the simplicity and minimalism with subtle curves added (i'm a design student).

:) Where's the .2Ghz thing from though? It's .7 isn't it?

Again, Apple is not claiming the first, but the first 15", people.

Ya that's great. Except I'm waiting for them to re-re-design it so the display tilts back to the same angle as the Powerbook days. Maybe they changed that with these new ones. We'll see.
