The more memory your computer has, the more programs you can run simultaneously, and the better performance you get from your computer. Increasing the amount of memory in your MacBook Pro is an easy way to improve performance.

How much memory is right for you?

Choose the standard 2GB of memory to support day-to-day tasks such as email, word processing, and web browsing as well as more complex tasks such as editing photos, creating illustrations, and building complex presentations

Max out your MacBook Pro with the 4GB option to enjoy the greatest possible performance for all your computing tasks.

The MacBook Pro uses one of the fastest memory technologies available today —667MHz, Double Data Rate (DDR2), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) — ensuring that the Core 2 Duo processor is constantly fed with data without wasting clock cycles.

No mention whatsoever of the 800Mhz FSB........

Lol, I just called apple germany only to find out that they weren't shure what the new mac book pro was ... ROFL!

Ok here's the deal, the UK minimum price is £1299 that's $2592. I can't believe that difference in price! Its criminal. Even my educational pricing of £1104 is $2204, this is wrong.

£1,299 = €1,914, which is about the same as elsewhere in Europe. And U.S. prices indeed don't include V.A.T.

I didn't realize the dollar had sunk this low, though.

No mention whatsoever of the 800Mhz FSB........

Every MacBook Pro model includes an Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB of shared L2 cache, an 800 MHz frontside bus and 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, running professional applications like Final Cut Pro® 6 and Logic® Pro 7 more than 50 percent faster than the original MacBook Pro with Core Duo. Delivering more realistic graphics for animation and gaming, every MacBook Pro now includes the state-of-the art NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT and is more than 50 percent faster than the original MacBook Pro with Core Duo.**

It's gone down £50 in the Uk educational store. Better features less money... great news!

Just need to get my new credit card now and see if WWDC reveals ilife 07

hmm

Did anybody else notice if you select the 160 GB 7200 RPM option then the ship date goes to 4-6 weeks? :(

I think this is all a sham. They pulled the same crap last summer with the Core Duo's. They introduced the new Core Duo last year... with a the FREE IPOD NANO!!! Oh yeah, three months later they had the "Core 2 Duo" with improved motherboards... Okay? Anybody see a pattern? They wait for college kids to take their old inventory and sweeten it by offering an iPod nano. Think about it, they upgraded the MacBook Pro's and MacBook's with "faster chips". No real structural improvement. I don't even think it is Santa Rosa!

anyway, this update is nice but not revolutionary.
now i have the coice between
a MB 2GB 120GB + ipod for ~$1300 (edu)
a MBP 2GB 120GB + ipod for ~$1800 (edu)

i wonder if the screen and the GPU are worth the $500 to me...............

RE: Shinanigans on Apple

Intel to Formally Launch Conroe Desktop Chip July 27

Is that only for desktops? Or will it be the same stellar deal they gave college students last year!

HD display version of the 17" ordered. Bit gutted it doesnt have the LED display but you cant have everything I guess.

Should be here next week which would be good.

Hard drive differences?

Does anyone have any information on the relative speed differences and power consumption differences between the different hard drive options? I seem to recall reading somewhere that the 4200rpm drive uses perpendicular technology and is effectively faster than the rpm would indicate ...

(Whee, my first post)

4 more hours till my local apple store opens and i get the high end 15 inch mbp and a free nano! this was definately worth the wait..

No XP Drivers

And apparently there are no XP drivers for the video card - so boot camp is out unless you are Vista-ing

There seesm to be some inconsitency on some apple sites ... the apple.nl site
still shows the new mbp with X1600 Gfx card in the tech section and with the
new gfx card only in the shop ... same for apple germany they dont mention
led backlit technology at all.

Buy or wait until they update their websites?
