Can you elaborate?
I have 320 GB of external storage and I'm not even close to filling it up. I don't count on a laptop hard drive to hold ALL of my data.
What do you mean by "dropping frames"?
I don't plan on spending $500 more for just 128 MB of video RAM. The additional drive space and 200 MHz aren't worth it either.
7900GS in the Inspirion E1710 and it's much less then a MacBook Pro. In before lack of EX10 support...
Do I expect Apple to compete with it in price? No. The stock configuration is nice with an insanely fast processor and lots of RAM.
I did type a long reply but this F***ing PC I am typing on just lost my damn post!
Here is the short version.
24" iMac: Top of the line, 250GB @7200rpm, 256MB GPU --> $2000
15" MBP: Bottom of the line, 120GB @ 5400rpm, 128MB GPU --> $2000
You are smart to get the external drive, but most college students have trouble getting the computer alone. They want the laptop because it is cool, they can show it off, and take it with them. Forgetting that someone can steal it easier, and that it will cost them more. Then when it comes to editing, they run everything off of that one internal system drive.
After a few hundred gigs get loaded and unloaded from the drive. They hear, Errrgh! Your drive is about to crash, then "click" "click" "click" Well... your drive just crashed.
Getting the desktop saves them money, time, and headaches if they are going to be doing a lot of video editing.
Dropped frames are when the computer can't keep up with the video playback, or your HDD is too slow to keep up with video playback or capture.
