I hope apple could provide an option to have a single 2GB memory so I won't get the 2 1GB memory kind of wasted if I want to upgrade to 4GB later.

Today, Apple has introduced the new MacBook Pros as expected.

The new MacBook Pros utilize the Santa Rosa chipset and come in the following configurations:

$1999. 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, 15" LED. GeForce 8600M GT 128MB
$2499. 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 15" LED. GeForce 8600M GT 256MB
$2799. 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, 17". GeForce 8600M GT 256MB

The 15-inch model uses a new LED display, while the 17-inch model now offers a new optional 1920-by-1200 high-resolution display.

The new MacBook Pros are available through the Apple Store (UK Store)

SIMPLY AWESOME UPDATE..! Now the MBPs are, once more, the MOST POWERFUL AND ENJOYABLE notebooks on the planet...GO APPLE!

You brought up laptop security when I was discussing the validity of Apple's choice to have 128 MB of video RAM.

I was talking about using a desktop to edit video over a laptop... I am not a hardware guy... I know enought to know what to buy and to tell many students to get the desktop. Then whole thing got outta wack.

Please finish the posts before posting.... it's hard to keep up when you add stuff after the fact. I went back to read the posts and they changed (a lot) after you edited them, or MacRumors is messing up.

Refurbs

How long does it take refurbs to post. I am a cheapskate. I am not going to hide behind that obvious fact. I just want a new mbp!

The more memory your computer has, the more programs you can run simultaneously, and the better performance you get from your computer. Increasing the amount of memory in your MacBook Pro is an easy way to improve performance.

How much memory is right for you?

Choose the standard 2GB of memory to support day-to-day tasks such as email, word processing, and web browsing as well as more complex tasks such as editing photos, creating illustrations, and building complex presentations

Max out your MacBook Pro with the 4GB option to enjoy the greatest possible performance for all your computing tasks.

The MacBook Pro uses one of the fastest memory technologies available today —667MHz, Double Data Rate (DDR2), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) — ensuring that the Core 2 Duo processor is constantly fed with data without wasting clock cycles.

No mention whatsoever of the 800Mhz FSB........

You know you are right! .... BUT my brand spanking new MBP from the local Apple store here in atlanta Says differntly!

Ready to buy TODAY! Just one question...

I have heard about the 14 day return policy, but I just wanted to confirm - If I by a new MacBook Pro at my local Apple store tonight, and next week Steve announces some 13", SSD, tablet, transforming laptop - will I be able to return my MBP in order to buy the next big thing?

Thanks everyone. I have been reading these forums for awhile now and have found everyone to be very helpful and the forums full of information.

Thanks again.

Excellent point! That would be a drag to have to dump the 2x1GB-ers. Of course by dump I mean sell... Actually, knowing Apple, it would be cheaper to buy 3rd party 2x2GB rather than to pay Apple to "upgrade" you to 1x2GB.

I would

Who in their right mind would pay $500 more for 0.2 GHz, 40GB extra space, and 128MB more VRAM?

Um.... that's not a horrible jump and if you are into video editing that extra 128MB will be quite helpful. Additionally .2GHz is a 9% boost.... I don't think that's shabby at all.:apple:

For a 10% restocking fee :)

You're talking to a hardware guy then. You can't just tell everyone to buy a desktop. We're not one of your students so your situational experience might not apply here.

So, let me get this straight... it's your thread and everyone else needs to talk about what you want to talk about?
The original discussion was over the video RAM in the MacBook Pro. DigitalSkunk tried to derail us (intentional or not) onto desktops Vs. portables and portable security. That wasn't the original point at hand.

Yes! Yes! Yes!

They included Santa Rosa and didn't change the price! And I get a free Nano to boot!

I love it! I love it so much!

Just been and got mine from the Apple store in the Trafford centre, Manchester, spec is just as it says on the website. RRP -5% business discount. 1st customer I believe. Staff say they only found out themselves this morning about the new products, apple must run an amazing cover up to hide 100,000 new laptops.

Nearly bought an old spec one last week for my business but held off after noticing upgrade rumours.

First impressions WOW :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Previous machine was a G4 titanium which just cant keep up with the RAW images I had recently introduced to it.

Anyway loading Aperture at the moment, so its going to get some serious sums to do.

Anyone any questions feel free to ask.

Glenn

Which set-up have you gone for 2.2Ghz/2.4Ghz?

...yes your laptop will get stolen from you if you are not careful, and yes even if you are careful laptops (like anything else you carry with you) will get stolen...

i think maybe we are misunderstanding you from the ambiguity of language. yes, even if you are careful, there is a very slight chance that your laptop (like anything else) will get stolen. but your wording makes it sound like this is a likelihood or even an inevitability. what everyone keeps trying to point out is that this is false. the actual odds are extremely low if you are reasonably careful. so it comes across like you are vastly over-exaggerating a risk in order to bolster your point.

I agree.

*clap clap clap*
It's nice to have bystanders.

I think the comment was in a broader context.

You BOTH need to chill out.
I pointed out that laptop security wasn't relevant to the amount of video RAM.

You know you have some nerve. The last time I checked I replied to one of your posts because you didn't understand why a desktop was better than a laptop at editing. I didn't even start the damn post, someone else did, I just finished it for you, then you asked for me to elaborate and I did.

Just because you aren't one of my students doesn't mean my facts aren't correct and I am not telling everyone to buy a desktop. Obviously you missed the entire conversation I was apparently having with myself because you weren't listening at all, and you still haven't come up with any good reason as to why you have become the moderator to this post, as per the last posters comment.

I used to respect you and your knowledge, but now I see your true colors. Just some rich kid playing on his dad's Mac.

Have a nice day my friend.

I think you are being a tab bit complacent about the matter based on your own location. Check out the facts from websites that sell anti theft software for laptops. You are fooling yourself into believing that it will never happen because you are careful.

And yes... it is a FACT that you may have your laptop stolen if you carry it with you.

I wanted you to point out how both a desktop (iMac) and laptop (MacBook Pro) both using the Napa platform would be different short of larger the hard drive in the iMac.

You suggested to just get a desktop over the fact that this is a thread about the MacBook Pro and my interest in a laptop.

I used to respect you and your knowledge, but now I see your true colors. Just some rich kid playing on his dad's Mac.
That's entirely up to you to believe.

Thread topics evolve. Get over it.
There's no relation to laptop security and video RAM.

So can your wallet.
