Buy a D2 Refurb From The RED TAG SALE Page At The Apple Store

or just jump in and buy a g5 ?

i'm sick of waiting

:(
Go to the RED TAG SALE page of the Apple Store and buy a dual 2 G5 for $1999. Scroll down NOT AT THE TOP. Do not wait. The price is too low to waste any more time waiting for a maybe change to the specs. I am ecstatic with mine. It looks and performs like new.

Now you guys are talking me into a RAID. But it's already so fast I don't know if I need a RAID to be satisfied. Thank you to everyone, especially that guy who chided me for canceling on last Tuesday for canceling a refurb order I placed that morning.

BTW - All Three "old" G5's are back at that page. S1.6 $1299, D1.8 $1799, D2 $1999

This morning when I checked my order status I found under the shipping method "priority overnite." (kickass!)

For real! I payed $80 for overnight and mine has been "standard overnite" since I ordered my mac! No fair, you have priority! lol :D

Cancel You $80 Shipping Level. It Will Still Get There Fast.

Call 'em up and cancel your $80 shipping and change to FREE. They will then upgrade you to overnight for FREE. I didn't pay for overnight shipping on my refurb and got it the next business day. It's a waste of money to pay for Apple Shipping. :)

Did anyone else have an experience like mine where they, too, received free priority overnite? I find it weird that it would just happen to one person...

XServe Ship times

Thought it somewhat relevant to note that 2.0DP XServe G5s have a ship estimate of 1-2 weeks. This is the quickest its ever been and a big drop from the 4-6 weeks its been pegged at for the past few months... hopefully thats a good sign that IBM's getting its yields in line. And hopefully a good sign for the new 2.5 yields as well.

Looks like chip troubles aren't behind us.

Just got word today that my Rev. B 1.8 Ghz PowerMac won't ship until July 5. "Supply problems" were cited. I ordered this machine two days after they were announced. Originally was due to ship June 23.

As Apple is now saying that all three of the new machines are using the 90 nm chips, I can only conclude that the fab troubles remain ongoing. The only other possibility is Apple is having trouble getting ATI to ship the 9600 XT video card that I ordered. I find that explanation less likely, however.

that's strange, cause when you order a stock rev B 1.8 or 2.0, it says "shipping the same day".

What did you BTO on your machine? only graphics?

That is weird... Clubmac has over 500 of them in stock as well. Maybe you should call apple and ask what the holdup is.

I'm no expert on graphics cards, but I've heard that as much as people are down on AGP vs. PCIe, AGP 8x hasn't even been truly exploited to its limits yet. I guess its really the cards and not really the interface that's the "problem".

PCIe is just a bunch of hype when it comes to the average PM user. PCIe will be great for high high end graphics pros, all day all night gamers, etc. Don't let PCIe stop you from enjoying a G5 - you won't regret it. Besides, I bet it'll be another year (at least) before we see PCIe in a PM.

that's a VERY valid argument

i agree 100% to be quite honest

i think pci-e will be amazing , but if i have to wait another year or 18 months for the hardware to come on song and for the drivers etc , which seems likely , it would be daft

i think ill order the dual 2.5 ghz in the next couple of weeks !

Check Out My PATA to SATA + PATA Slot Ready Posts Here. :p

This is a FirmTek SeriTek/1SC1 PATA to SATA Converter. It is only $25 and it lets you easily add one PATA Drive to your G5 below the stock drive. Just use a double female to power it from the upper's spare conventional 4 pin male power OUTPUT on its left side.

You can also add a second PATA Drive above the Optical with a simple Y Power Cable and a conventional ATA Cable to the Optical's ATA Bus connector.

Three More Drives may be placed vertically on the bottom front with space between each one in front of the processor fans. Connect them to a Sonnet Tempo, Trio, Tempo Raid or two to a Tempo Serial PCI Card. :)

If you are really interested you should order on or before Saturday June 26th, will get Fed-Ex 2nd Day Free. Also if the 23" Cinema Display catches your eye, then you can get an additional $500 off.

How did you get word about shipment delays, I also ordered a Rev B1.8 with the 9600XT and I checked my status online and it says shipping on or before July 2nd and I just ordered it on Monday.

I don't think they're are shipping delays of the new powermacs. I've seen a few other cases where orders were pushed back but still shippied before the original ship date given.

Holy Pages, Batman!

I just couldn't do it... read all 50 pages. Got stuck back on page 11 and jumped to last page... number 50.

Granted, I did find some very useful information. G5 with dual 1.8... bad, G5 with dual 2.0, good... G5 with dual 2.5, eh... out of my price budget.

I'm tired of doing the same research over and over. We were originally going to get a dual 1.25 or 1.41 G4... then saw the G5's at the local Apple store. Damn, I hate when my budget gets screwed.

Y'all are starting to scare me, though. I last used an Apple back in college... Apple IIe, 128 kb of massive action. It's just not normal for Mac fanatics to dis their own products so much. We've been using a Windows base platform for 5 years and are making the jump back to Apple... but you have me worried.

I see nothing abnormal about upgrading the RAM, video card or hard drive where as some of you are going nuts about this... despite the cost. Maybe it's because I've been using a different platform for so long that, to me, it's typical and normal.

So, now it looks like my budget G4 is out, and also the 1.8 G5... poop. I guess it really will be the 2.0 G5. At least the 11 pages I did manage to wade through point in that direction. A G5 iMac would be awesome... but that's the shakedown of buying any computer system, it will always become obsolete.

Now, that I have my 1.8 question answered, it looks like I'd get severely pounded by purchasing a monitor at this time. The 17" is being discontinued, and they're coming out with DVi monitors... thinner and lighter. Can't see spending $700 on a 17" or $999 on a 20" when they're coming out with a new range of monitors. Looks like I'll be using the flatscreen I bought for our old PC for awhile(I hope that won't be an "issue")... unless they really drop the prices on the "old" monitors when they come out with the new ones. Say, $350 for the 17" or $500 for the 20".

Thanks for the enlightenment... and at some point when I can't sleep again, I'll go back and read the other 39 pages.

Whooo hooo, a group of people who talk as much as I do.

Peace,
Mark

Mark, you don't have to get an Apple Monitor. There are some really good options like Formac, Samsumg, Sony, etc. Just don't get something crappie that will make your G5 feel cheap (or look bad ;) )

Ah, that warms my heart... the ability to bring this puppy home w/in budget constraints. This is the type of information I like to learn... which Apple of course doesn't share.

Cool, I'll double check and see if the 17" Proview Flatscreen we purchased will work well with the new system. I've forgotten what the resolution is, but if it isn't sufficient, it's nice to know there are other options.

Peace,
Mark

So what did you wind up getting?

It did it again....

As many of you know I have been having strange changes occur in my shipping method section. Here it goes in order of what I had:

1. Ground shipping
2. Two-day shipping
3. Priority Overnite

It just made its fourth change to "bestway" shipping. WTF is bestway shipping and why am I getting it? :p This is soooo weird.

You are not alone invaLPsion. We ordered on June 9th also and have received the exact same shipping changes you have received. Ground then 2-Day then Priority Overnite. Our order now states "Bestway" as shipping method. Anyone know what this means? Very strange indeed.

Great, I thought I was alone in this one and there was some glitch with my order.

I can think of one good scenerio this indicates. Croquer Dans La Pomme stated that Apple had 1000 powermac units ready for shipment. Perhaps the first 1000 to order or something are receiving their powermacs early? I bet Steve would like to be able to say at WWDC that the dual 2.5GHz powermacs are starting to ship (ahead of schedule).

Are we going to be the first to receive the powermacs??????/ :)

I, too, have entertained that exact same thought invaLPsion. Perhaps the "early bird gets the worm." But then again............ ;)
