Apple Releases Official iPhone 2.0 Firmware

Perhaps I'll stick with my "early adopter" 2.0 from yesterday for a week or so since it seems no one can access the servers or reactive there phone if they manage to get it updated.

I think waiting is my plan too.

I looked at both 5A347 2.0 versions and it does look like today's is slightly newer, and has less firmware files in the firmware folder.

Isn't that just because the 3G info isn't needed for EDGE iPhones or is that because yesterday's viruses aren't in today's update (just kidding)? :D

Since i'm experiencing no problems with my phone at all and really don't feel like bricking it or watching iTunes go in circles for hours today, I think I'll wait a bit. :(

why didn't apple use there brains and stagger the software update they could have did 3G version in first 24hrs
then did iphone version 1 in next 24 hrs and then
ipod touch in next 24 hrs instead of this shambles

Finally got it updated but now getting the cant access itunes store error. So have a pretty paper weight at the moment.
Not very good apple, not very good at all :(

I've been getting this error for about an hour now. Haven't been able to leave the house for work!

I also can't call apple without a phone!

I've canceled my download of the software, too many people having problems, and gizmodo, and engadget are both reporting big server problems. i figure I'll wait till i get some definite answers on people getting all the way through the update. I'm pretty stoked about it, and excited, but I am a patient person, and can wait till lunch at least.

ok...now my phone says 'Waiting for activation' in bold and just below This may take some time.

no kidding...I'm at 25 minutes waiting for the iTunes store

Try A Reset

I have found on several phones if you do a reset first, Itunes will recognize the update to 2.0.
It's worked on 3 phones now.
Good luck!

That part took me 10 minutes.

Now I'm "accessing iTunes store" for 30 minutes and counting.

Have people just waited this out and had success?

I got an error. Now all my purchased songs from the phone are 'missing', as well as the simple fact that my phone is at present, a vegetable.

Eep.

In the UK with new 8Gb 3G iPhone.

Was running 5A345, and iTunes said you have latest firmware.

Decided to try Restore through iTunes. This downloaded 5A347 (took 4 mins to come down! - was pretty amazed actually).

The file it downloaded was iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw and its 225Mb.

The restore is taking a little while (started at 14:56, preparing to restore until 15:00, restore until 15:02, Verify until 15:04, finished restore at 15:06).

Can anyone confirm a successful restore from the leaked 2.0 to the new 2.0? I think this would help a lot of us. Thanks

I've also got a paperweight

I updated yesterday, and then restored today to the new official version.

All was well until it tried to connect to iTunes to finish the activation part, where I keep getting the "can't connect to iTunes..." error

WONDERFUL :(

Finished restoring, but now a message keeps coming up: "we could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was reset --- make sure your network connection is active and try again"

Hmm.. a little bug?

Do This To Sync...

If you are stuck at the screen "Accessing iTunes Store". Simply right-click your iPhone in the source list and choose "Sync." This will sync your phone and will install your Apps on your phone. All is working for me now, and I have my apps. It still says "Accessing iTunes Store" but I don't care as my phone is working. Hopefully Apple will fix the problem.

sorry to hear about everyones frustrations, as previous poster said, later on it will be much much easier etc just to many freaks like us all trying to do the same thing at the same time and a few of us getting lucky. Mine is now all working and have tried out a few apps - shazam works anyway!;)

Are Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple smoking crack??? Why the hell would they do the firmware upgrade, the App store update and introduce the 3G iPhone all at exactly the same time?!?!? Of course their servers are overloaded right now!!!

If someone there had half a brain, they would have done the firmware and App store updates/upgrades a few weeks earlier, so all those people with the 2G iPhones could have upgraded before the 3G iPhone buyers all started flooding the servers. Come on, dopes! I'm not even in the computer or cell phone business, but I know better than that!!

same thing here in Italy...
just waiting...
already downloaded the 2.0:D

Hi pik...

I decided to take my chances and am now in the process described by anyone else here... connecting to iTunes....

So I'll let you know if my theory works or not (keeping my fingers crossed).

If anyone successfully did it and can tell me it works I would wait much more quietly than right now

AAARRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Firmware updated. Won't connect to itunes store. Get following:

"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An unknown error occurred (-9838)

There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."

Everyone needs to stop. Cancel the the activation request to the iTunes store, with all the in store activations, you are just making it worse. let the launch calm down for a couple hours.

I can't even do this. I have the original phone and iTunes doesn't even recognize it. WTF

iBrick

My "update" finally stalled out with an error. Now my iPhone (1.0) is a brick.

I should have waited to update, but NO...I figured that I could have it done BEFORE I opened for business this morning. Now I'm really hosed. Thanks Apple!

I am only given the option to "Eject"
