I really wish I didn't bother with this but I can't quit now since I don't have a phone. I fully anticipate this to take up 13 hours

I have to agree. Now, I am stuck with a phone that will only make emergency calls. I have been an Apple fan for over twenty years. I am not changing my mind, but this is a bitter disappointment. I will have to think twice before trusting so blindly again. I expected better. I really did.

I won't buy an suggestions to cut them some slack. MobileMe is not as dispersed as other web services. They should have done much better.

As soon as I click on "iPhone" in iTunes now, I just get "we could not complete your itunes store request. an unknown error occurred".

Anyone else got that?

Now getting new error message

'Make sure SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 is enabled in internet options control panel'

What is this? Where do i find it? Help

Still no iphone

I've been waiting about an hour and still trying to activate via the itunes store. :( It looks like I may be without a phone for some time.

omg i'm getting the same freaking iTunes error. "" we could not complete your itunes store request..." omg!

After an hour and a half my original phone reactivated, it is now restoring from the backup!

wow...did I just get lucky? first I got the error message that the connection had timed out, then it was restoring, then suddenly the iPhone turned on with the new App store on the screen quickly moving to iPhone is activated.

now it says it's restoring music and videos

fingers crossed!!! Close to 30 minutes from the 'waiting for iTunes' message first came up

I'm stuck at the "Accessing Itunes Store..."

However I started my upgrade at about 9:30AM EST. Should've check this thread first as problems were reported before that.

Oh well it'll work when it works

Anyone have a solution to the SSL 3.0 or TSL 1.0 not being enabled error? Because they are enabled...

downloaded the early update yesterday, found applications and sending SMS's to be quite sluggish.

then downloaded the updated (i suppose) version 1,1 today to crossgrade from 1,2 of yesterday.

got stuck at the network timeout screen for about 25 min, now i'm just waiting for my phone to completely restore from the backup i made earlier this morning.

just hang in there fellas, keep trying and you'll get through.

Are Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple smoking crack??? Why the hell would they do the firmware upgrade, the App store update and introduce the 3G iPhone all at exactly the same time?!?!? Of course their servers are overloaded right now!!!

If someone there had half a brain, they would have done the firmware and App store updates/upgrades a few weeks earlier, so all those people with the 2G iPhones could have upgraded before the 3G iPhone buyers all started flooding the servers. Come on, dopes! I'm not even in the computer or cell phone business, but I know better than that!!

If you know anything about ITIL, you will know that there is a function called Capacity Management....It seems that Apple doesn't even know what that is...

OMG! still waiting here...it's been 30 minutes now for me...still accessing iTunes store...grrrr...:(

It sounds like apple servers is getting hit way to hard. They should have release the software yesterday. Now we can't get our new phones unbricked.

i'm getting the -9398 error as well almost everyone else. this is a disaster. i remember connection problems to at&t last year, but apple's servers were ready for the hit. we should warn other 1st Gen iPhone users to wait a few hours till the problems subside somehow.

iPhone is fixed .... restoring from backup

Called my office tech / Microsoft guru fixed it .... if you are on a PC go to control panel - internet options - select only 1(one) of the following SSL 3.0 or TSL 1.0

I did SSL 3.0 and it came right up

Thanks to PC

Restoring...

I JUST dropped the phone back in the dock. It activated and is now restoring.

Good luck to the rest of you.

In the UK with new 8Gb 3G iPhone.

Was running 5A345, and iTunes said you have latest firmware.

Decided to try Restore through iTunes. This downloaded 5A347 (took 4 mins to come down! - was pretty amazed actually).

The file it downloaded was iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw and its 225Mb.

The restore is taking a little while (started at 14:56, preparing to restore until 15:00, restore until 15:02, Verify until 15:04, finishing restore...).

Will update once its done its stuff.....

NOW, I'm REALLY CONFUSED!

That's the same pre-release build from YESTERDAY!

How is that possible?

My phone went into restore mode but I have an "Activation Alert"

"No signal Detected. Signal is required to complete activation"
