why didn't apple use there brains and stagger the software update they could have did 3G version in first 24hrs
then did iphone version 1 in next 24 hrs and then
ipod touch in next 24 hrs instead of this shambles

iPhone 3G doesn't need a software update, just the activation. It is the iPhone 2(or 2.5)G folks that are feeling the pain (mostly) right now.

different problem

I restarted my iPhone and computer after it restored and bricked itself because it can't connect to the itunes store and now I'm getting the same error that it can't connect but now it says to enable SSL 3.0 or TSL 1.0 in my internet settings, which are both enabled. I'm a little confused because I can still freely browse and download apps in the itunes store on my pc, it just can't access the 2.0 firmware.

And also I noticed when I access my control panel, I now have a new icon for mobile me settings (I haven't purchased mobile me service). I'm assuming this appears when 2.0 is successfully downloaded

Mine finally just went through, it re-started and is now restoring music and videos. I was on the accessing itunes thing for about 45 minutes.......

Woohoo finally got it. restoring back up data now. i managed to get into itunes with the iphone. now just waiting for activation

I am receiving message "W could not complete your iTunes Store request. An Unknown error occured (-9838). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."

Now my phone is friedn cant do anything.

i downloaded the new software thew itunes, then it said preparing phone for update, then preparing software, and then it said: iphone is set back to facktory settings, phone powered off, then powered on again until it sais connect to itunes on the screen, when i click in itunes under "iphone" it sais: your request to the itunes store could not be completed!! please try network connections!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

what should i doo???:confused::confused::confused:

omg i swear. do people even bother reading the posts before posting?

Same here. Hopefully it will be good after this.

I'll be away this weekend and I need my phone!

Always risky being an early adopter.

I unplugged mine and now I get the 9838 error. Ugh.

How could Apple not expect this many people to update at the same time?????

Did you just let it try to connect for the full 30-45 minutes, or did you periodically stop it and start again?

I've been trying to connect for a full hour now, and I haven't stopped it once. Are connections served like a queue, with older ones being fulfilled first, or should I try to cancel it and try again?

Anybody else getting a "The network connection was reset" error?

I can go into the itunes store and download apps but my iphone isnt finishing its restore...
