Downloaded the 2.0 earlier this morning and now my phone is in emergency service mode with no service signal...and I can't get it to connect to itunes........

flip between your playlist, and the phone, you'll be all good, it will go through. Give it time!

Is this the error message everyone's getting? (below). I've been getting this ever since I updated to 2.0 and the phone's totally dead with the exception of access to 911.

"We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."

-4 error

OK my phone finally activated but I now have the -4 error when I try and sync. Has anyone had success after getting the -4 error ?

I wish the warning not to upgrade was on the front page before I updated my phone with software I can't use because of activation.

Silly question, but couldn't apple save some sort of activation token in iTunes for phones that have already been activated to avoid this mess?

Yup. But for those getting ready to update their iPhone 2Gs to 2.0 please heed this warning: Do Not Update Your Phone Until iTMS is Working Smoothly.

I just updated w/ the link posted in this thread. All went fine until the iTunes activation. I didn't realize I'd need that part since I was just updating from yesterday's posted build to the official one. Wrong. Now I have a brick until iTunes server traffic gets to more normal levels.

All-in-all seems like Apple screwed the pooch on this one. They should know the capacity of their servers vs. demand for new activations and old iPhones reactivating. In hindsight they should have released the iPhone s/w a few days ago just to relive traffic for the new iPhone activations. This is the same issue that happened last year so really inexcusable for a tech company.

my status: emergency screen still shows. its been like this for three hours and cant connect to itunes. getting error message like -4. nothing comes up on the iphone tab.:(

Has Apple released a timetable for the problem to fixed?

What makes me laugh when I think about it is that Steve Jobs will probably fire DOZENS of people over this in a fire-laden tirade even though it's almost certain it was his decision & his alone to release the 2.0 iPhone software to EVERYONE AT THE SAME TIME (give or take half a day country to country), in effect causing this entire mess!!! HAha!

got through, so the phone works...

but it now wants to connect to the server again for god knows what reason....

so I haven't synced any apps yet. :(

What's going on? First it shows me that there is an update 2.0 but it always ends up saying that the itunes store is temporaraily unavailable. When I try to update it again, it says that the 1.1.4 is the current firmware!

Did it work for any ipod touch users in Canada?

Seriously read half of one please

What?

So, I've been staring at this error message for about 2 hours, and I don't even know what it's saying... what exactly does it mean that the network connection has been reset? It's been reset by Apple? Is that a fancy way of saying that it timed out?

i'm curious if you have even know what public relations is. This has already been a nightmare and even AP has reported "bad news for apple". I don't know of anyone who would say that is good press. Will it generate awareness, sure, but no one wants to go near a device that they have to wait 5 hours to have activated. It turned me off when the first one was released.

I'm in advertising. This won't hurt Apple much because comes off as a testament of the consumer frenzy for the 3G and the app store, i.e. Apple technology. The average Joe looks at this as the system just being overwhelmed by demand. It's only a nightmare for the comsumers involve today and for Apple & carriers. Once the dust settles, as with any other hot product, all is forgotten. BUT, if this were to continue past tomorrow, then they have a PR problem. Remember, the problem is not with the product, rather due to the demand of the product. That's the kind of PR problem every company wants.

Then you are in a better situation then most

Lol now after the 1.1.4 restore failed I replugged in the phone and hit restore and it started to download 2.0 Lets see what happens now....................................

Just passed the 3 hour mark of "Accessing iTunes store.."

at least my phone is fully charged though....
