Accountability

I wonder if Apple and/or AT&T will do anything to compensate the throngs of users who lose phone service for what will end up being "extensive" periods of time? Apple and AT&T need to be held responsible and accountable for this debacle. Apple certainly fuels the upgrade fire to generate interest and sales. Wow, what a surprise, people respond! Attached to that effort is the responsibility to provide service to their customers who make a rather significant financial commitment to the company and product. Clearly, this is a real burden on the customer as well as a PR nightmare for both companies.

It will be interesting to see the spin put forth as a result of this memorable event!

Agreed. I am glad to AT&T pushing folks through and sending them home at least. All that training and prep that went in to in store activation on AT&T's side.. Suppose it will be used in the stores once the calm hits.. Wonder if folks on the AT&T side asked these launch day scenario questions before locking in all that training time and hours.. I imagine they did..

that is more of a problem with apple itunes than AT&T... everyone is having problems activating their phone through itunes which is the way it's activated even at AT&T....many stores are just sending folks home to activate it.....and those that are home are still having issues!

its only about 2 hours of time you will be fine..

i got mine done in 2 hours.. and now its just restoring i hope that MEANS ITS DONE. cuz i unlocked it and i have the app store so it should be done...

You clearly haven't been with AT&T long that isn't there MO you won't get compensated. It sucks I know.

I keep getting errors. Apple really screwed this up. I've been without a working iPhone for half an hour so far, but that's peanuts compared to some of the other time periods I read up here.

Time issues with 2.0

Hey guys i have my UK Gen 1 iPhone and i updated to 2.0 today fine i am getting the same issues with the iTunes sync up so i can manage my videos music contacts etc but also i have noticed that the time for my UK phone is set to what i can make out GMT Pacific time its 6.05pm here but my phone says 10.05am anyone else getting this issue ?

:apple:

Have read threads of 2.0 misery but impatience has got the better of me (and common sense has been thrown out the window)....now in the 'accessin iTunes' queue. Will I ever learn?....always a sucker to the Steve Jobs hype

at least your phone tells you the time:mad:

FINALLY broke through after 3 hours!!! It's taking a while to sync "music and videos," but I know I have a signal because a slew of texts and voicemails popped up as soon as it was activated.

Keep trying... it will work at some point!

what happens now? how can i get my apps onto my phone if its just going to take me to the accessing itunes thing again! this is so stupid

im so close yet so far.

I guess I should be happy that I didn't succumb to the temptation to install 2.0 yesterday. I suspect that this is going to take the better part of the weekend to clear up. I remember that there were activation problems and delays right after the iPhone came out last year, but the numbers were far smaller.

As much as I'm looking forward to the new features and app store, I'd rather wait and have a functioning phone.

Another Thank You to Arn

Arn - thanks again:

I know some folks have reported 1,2...347 problems, but I, like many others, are chugging along just fine, and better still, WE HAVE WORKING PHONES TODAY and can afford to wait a few days to "downgrade" to 1,1 when the activation system levels out. Only "Arns Army" of gun jumpers are working today with v.2.0 phones. ;)

Success

Told my self this was the last time I would try to access the iTunes store for 4 hours, walked to the restroom and came back to my phone syncing. Phone now works, all data is restored and it seems OK. Maybe it was the trip to the bathroom?

Patience my friends!!!

I suffered the same issues as many of you but my Phone is now synced and working after about 2 hours of trying. In a day or two this will be all behind us and things will be just dandy!! MY god folks calm down it is not the end of the world.. Many of you are all a bunch of Fricken whiners!!! Shows how we are a society a spoiled and instant access babies and a if you have to wait a little it will not kill you.. A little patience is not a bad thing!! Really it is ok is not cancer! Geesh!!

"Patience is a virtue" there is value to this statement...

I had this problem. Go to settings, then general then set time and date and change to London ENgland

^^ I have not had any problems with the iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347 firmware released yesterday on my 1st gen iPhone. If anything, it works better than 1.1.4. I don't think the two files are different--that or the hardware of the 3G iPhone is not particularly different than the iPhone 1st Gen.
