Why is iTunes (yes, 7.7) still telling me that 1.1.4 is the latest version of iPhone software? It's been been 5 1/2 hours since the 2.0 version was released.

For being such a visionary company, it's hard to understand Apple's reasoning when it comes to this roll out.

Why wouldn't they release the 2.0 firmware on Monday and allow however many of the six million first generation iPhone owners who are out there to upgrade their device?

Then on Wednesday, roll out the MobileMe.

Then on Friday the decks are cleared for the 3G debut.

Instead, everything's packed in to this 48 hour worldwide premiere and you wind up overwealming servers, angering people and wasting their time.

Two words: plan better!

That's what my dad said, too. He's going to be ranting all day long...

Sitting here in Accessing iTunes Store purgatory, I can't help but to wonder where exactly Steve Jobs is right now, and who is suffering his blinding wrath.

I GOT IT FINALLY

I am not going to say what I did because you all already know just keep at it

That's funny. I'm getting a new message now from Apple. Looks like they're "working on it" I guess. Anyone else getting this?

Even if you downloaded both of the two 2.0 version updates, you'll STILL end up with an iBRICK 2.0

Trust me. Mine was working fine w/ yesterday's 2.0, but I couldn't leave well enough alone and had to gamble and it did NOT pay off.

APPLE REALLY SCREWED UP TODAY! :(

Nope. I downloaded the firmware. Shift-Clicked Restore. Selected the ipsw file. About 15 minutes or so later, I had a fully functional activated iphone. Could not have been easier.

I am on the same build number and thats where it is staying. I don't care if its slightly different today. Everything works, the app store works, and it says 2.0(5A347) on my about screen.

My Iphone Is Activated And 2.0 Is Installed After 3 Hours, But Still No Info When I Go Iphone Tab On Itunes And It Still Says Accessing Server:(. Update Is Great!!!

I agree. They made a mistake and had some problems. It sucks. It is not the end of the world.

I was going to try and get through even knowing it was probably going to make my phone unusable for some time. But now I can't because iTunes is saying 1.1.4 is the current version.

Hopefully they get it working tonight so I can finally mess with 2.0.

so pretty much were all still like stuck on error -4 right? everyhting synched and backed up and restored good but still cant get through. the mlb app is mighty nice.

Broke thru

Broke thru after 1hr40min. Saw new home page on my phone. Sync in Progress: "Restoring music and videos"

Fingers remain crossed.

goddammit, stop calling your iphones bricked. they are NOT bricked.

bricked = a completely dead phone that has no functionality.

what you have is a phone you cannot use at the moment because it cannot activate through itunes. wait a few hours and it will eventually sync up and you will have a perfectly fine iphone.

Thank you! People don't even remember the days when you truly bricked a device by playing around in the circuitry, accidentally releasing the magical blue smoke. *That* is bricking an electronic device.

Apple wanted a Christmas in July and you get all your goodies on one day. Yes it was ambitious and after the fact we know that it wasn't the smartest thing. But this is what Apple does. It lets the hype build up and all of us Apple fans exhale collectively. Unfortunately this isn't what happened but had Apple pulled it off successfully, we would have been amazed yet again. Instead...we get Hanukkah in July.

It was a much requested feature.

Before people had to go Phone / Contacts so to save a step, apple added an icon for Contacts.

If you don't like it then just swipe to like your fourth screen.

Ya, I'm not complaining, I just didn't see the point. I thought maybe I was missing something.

Broke the iWall

Syncing now...started at roughly 9:00am....all most there...all most there...

I can't say I feel sorry for anyone who is having difficulties. You should have expected millions of people bogging down apples server today and if you really had somewhere to be in 5 minutes or whatever, don't upgrade the iphone and expect it to work in a blink of the eye.

Its funny how everyone has to get everything RIGHT NOW or else the world ends.

Chill people.
