I don't have time to test 10.11.5 at the moment but I'm curious if USB drivers have been finally fixed?

10.11.4 was slightly better in that aspect but it still had too many problems compared to Mavericks 10.9.5.

In a related note: No improvements to Disk Utility?

El Capitan was a heap of Crap and a disaster for my IMac 27 i7.

This update had better fix the "flash your logic board" crap that leaves you with no serial number showing on the system. Means you can't access your apple account or iTunes purchases or anything else, since Apple servers use your mac's serial number for authentication.

Only response from Apple was to completely reinstall everything after a complete back up (that didn't work). Next brilliant solution was to physically bring the machine to an Apple Store, for some dumb kid to use a special tool to flash the motherboard. Nearest store to me is a 245 mile round trip, so no ain't doing that!

My 27/i7 is still a good machine but now it sits there mostly unused due to the El Capitan shi....... T

Between this and slower speeds/occasional freezes, it makes me wonder sometimes if Apple have a hidden policy to crap out older machines with buggy problems forcing you to upgrade.

If anybody has had the same serial number lost issue and got a fix with this update, maybe you would let us know.

Mucho thanks.

Upgraded this morning and now it will no longer output 4k resolution to my 4k Dell monitor. Only options are 720P, 1080P, or 2560x1440P. Everything looks blurry under all three resolutions.
WTF Apple?

Yep, I just downloaded the update and upon restart my Wi-Fi was on even though I have it set off.
It's driving me nuts
I have been having the same problem since 10.11.2. I have not tried 10.11.4 or .5 but I assume it is the same. Turn it off, or even delete the WiFi profile, and every time you boot/reboot it is back on like a gremlin. Nothing fixes it. So ever since 10.11.2 I have been using this below (it's free):

http://www.controlplaneapp.com/about/

I setup the application to disable WiFi whenever it sees it on. Works like a charm. Every time I boot/reboot I see my WiFi toggle off immediately because of it. I don't have the settings I used in front of me, it's on another comp, but I'm sure you can figure it out...

Has anyone else had Bluetooth pairing problems between iPhone and Mac? Bluetooth is fine when I AirDrop files from Mac to iPhone, but if I want to pair my iPhone and Mac, to use [insert app/utility] it just basically never works. Yosemite and El Cap. I have searched online, I haven’t found any fix.

Same problem? Suggestions?

One of the (many) things that have changed between Tiger (when I switched to Macs) and now is the huge YMMV factor in how well or poorly an upgrade works on different systems. And this is with a pretty much closed hardware architecture community. I don't know if Apple has just stopped development testing on a range of hardware representative of what's out here, or what the problem is. Maybe they've just stopped testing altogether, and now all releases should be viewed as beta releases at the very best. No Apple user should ever have to cringe before upgrading the OS, particularly not to a fifth-generation release like this one.

Maybe it's just because there are more hardware targets out here now than in the Tiger days. Regardless, they should be testing on a wider hardware base than they appear to.

It's not like they are working out of a garage anymore or have only 5 people to share the work between.
Update has now failed on both my MBPr and almost 100% vanilla MacMini...

I demand a return of the Mountain Lion. Each update the number of bugs grow exponentially.

ML was a decent OS. I personally think 10.6 was faster and more stable, but ML was a close second. I would have never upgraded from ML on my late 2012 iMac if I didn't need to.

Well, thanks Apple this is what happened to my 2010 iMac after the update. Grey screen, I can move my mouse pointer. That's it.

SMC, PRAM, disk repair, nothing.

I am running El Capitan but cannot seem to download this latest release. It does not show up on my update page. What now?

I'm going to do the same with 10.12 and wait until ~ this time next year for the x.x.5 patch release before taking the plunge. I'm getting old.
And I am old and still with 10.10.5 which works just fine ...... iMac 27in Late 2012. 32 GB RAM.

Airdrop & Handoff is all its designed to do, the iPhone & Mac won't pair the way you're trying. A write-up on the Apple forums. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722

Only just installed but it seems just better in every way.

Spotlight eating the first character has finally been fixed - that will make the biggest difference for me. Safari seems better but remains to be seen if it still has the "takes down the entire system every few days" issue. I'll give it a shot.

Thank you. I am going to try it when I get home

Inevitably it is hubris. They grew too big. The incentive to care vanishes with the incentive to compete. Corporate history is no stranger to this phenomenon.

Apple should be broken up and set loose as smaller companies, as they can't revive a sense of duty to customers organically.

On a serious note (my posts lately are venting sarcasm about the reality of Apple's innovation lately), for the first time ever I have second thoughts about upgrading to the next OS X or OSMac (whatever). OS X El Cap is STILL not stable and the next is coming out in a few weeks to start this circus of instability all over again....?????????!!!!!??

And when I look across the yard at instability Microsoft with their now stable OS...I say wtf? What has happen to Apple lately?

As someone who once sent dozens of business customers to Apple in its better days, I remain on the ecosystem but no longer recommend it.

Commodity junk fares just as well now -- which is to say, lasts as long and presents as many headaches. Barring any demonstrable renaissance in QC, my current three Apple systems and iPhone are the last I will ever buy. It was a nice ride, then it wasn't, and now it's simply silly.

That is bad, I saw someone else mention they had problems with a 4K display. Is it by any chance a Dell DEP2415Q? I have one of these at work. I am very afraid to upgrade now.

What type / year mac do you have? Have you reported this to Apple yet?

Is anyone else seeing this?

I have a mid 2014 15" rMBP with GT750M graphics.
It's the P2715Q, the bigger brother of the P2415Q. It's good now though. When I did the update, I was still connected to the monitor. After being frustrated with the new blurry picture and the limited resolution choices, I said to myself, 'let me unplug the cable and plug it in again.'
And that did it. Now it's back to how it was before. Haven't had any problems since.

Ok, good to hear. Thanks.

Anyone else with similar issues, particularly with a Mid 2015 13" rMBP?

This kind of sound like me. Although for me it was friends and family, not business customers.

Back when Apple products barely had any marketshare, and many people didn't really know what a Mac was other than the crappy public school Macs, I was selling many friends and family members on Macs and Apple products because I truly believed that they were the best option out there.

You could say "it just works" without adding a /s after.

Today, I never recommend Apple products, or any other, and pretty much just avoid tech conversations.

I hope with all the recent string of bad press, Apple tries to examine what happen, what got them a cult following a decade+ ago, instead of what makes them the biggest $.

After a day....
  • WiFi bug hasn't resurfaced ... yet ... hopefully never ... It's Back :(
  • Battery life is less ... monitor says it is Safari
  • Safari beach ball has taken a vacation ... so far
  • It now gets much warmer when watching streaming video

Will post more as I find it...

Update: Added video item
Update 2: Wifi bug is back. Have to turn off / turn on Wifi this morning to get it to recognize from sleep.

I hope this fixes the issue where my iMac randomly looses it, freezes and restarts all by itself. A $3,000 machine shouldn't do this, especially in the middle of work.
I was having that happen all the time until a couple months ago when I ran a hard drive check on my iMac. Lo and behold, I needed to repair the disk. Since I did, haven't had a problem since.
