Up and running with El Capitan now on one machine; another is in the process of downloading -- says it'll be about three hours -- and I'll just wait until tomorrow to do the third machine. I feel as though all I've been doing in the past few days is tinkering with one machine or another or my iPads and iPhone.....updating, doing some necessary "housekeeping," etc., etc. Happy to have El Capitan on board on one machine already! :)

I loved Apple's approach with Snow Leopard at the time and I see El Capitan as the same. Looking forward to downloading this and taking advantage of all the under the hood improvements!

Full installer is update or fresh install?
For this OS, it's sort of in between. It is UPDATING the OS that's installed, but thanks to the new System Integrity Protection feature in El Capitan, it is also scrubbing your System directories for anything that doesn't belong there. You'll end up with a clean /System directory. What it does not do is remove any Settings and any Third Party plugins/daemons/etc that may be installed in /Library that could cause a problem.

Funny thing how they keep stating how stable it is however I've been getting numerous e-mails from Native Instrument, Steinberg, Slate Digital, and Gobbler all advising the same thing: NOT TO UPGRADE. At least not at this moment until all the bugs and fixed and patched. So unfortunately I won't be upgrading for a while until I know without a doubt I won't have any issues having Logic Pro X trying to authorize my AU plugins and VIs and have it freeze up or crash. Just a heads up for all music producers, composers, etc.

I'm running Logic and all the plugins are fine.

changed from 2 days to download to 4 days, i quit the download and gave up, not updating its ridiculous. Maybe in 2 weeks after the population has finished updating. 2 hours and only 80MB downloaded.

I'm in that group of people. And I also asked about Pages '09. This is an Apple forum with tons of people jumping on El Capitan today/tomorrow, etc. Some of them are going to be users of Adobe CS 5.5 programs and some are going to be Pages '09 (DTP side) users.

So it's an important production machine, but you need to jump right on an OS update without testing your workflows. What are we all missing about this?

El Cap hosed the email I had saved in my primary Mail inbox. Luckily, I have a backup, but still annoying.

Sorry if someone has addressed this yet, I got bored about page 8 and decided to post. If you are a beta tester, you should already be on 10.11.1. You would have to revert back if you want to instal the official release. If you didn't install the .1 update then go right ahead and install the official release.

If you want to stop being a beta tester you go into your system preferences>App Store and then turn off the item that refers to receiving pre-release software. I don't remember the exact wording because I shut it off on the machine I'm typing on. However, I'm already on the Beta of 10.11.1 so it will be a while before I update.

It's great that Apple makes software available to end users ahead of time to experiment, but there really are a lot of people who don't have any business being on a Beta when they don't understand the basics and come to a rumors site to figure out what they are doing.

Here how to create bootable OS X 10.11 El Capitan in USB:

Mac OS X Extended (Journaled)-formatted USB drive named "Untitled" mounted on the system, you can create an El Capitan install drive by typing the following command into the Terminal.

sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ El\ Capitan.app --nointeraction

I'm real excited to install this on my moms 2010 iMac tonight considering all the positive posts I've been reading. It's already got an SSD and 8 gigs of RAM so hopefully this update helps out. My mom hates closing out her chrome tabs so the computer is always running 40+ tabs at the same time and the RAM is always maxed out. Been on the fence about upgrading to 16 gigs of RAM or getting a new machine so maybe El Captian is enough of a performance difference to squeeze more longevity out of the machine

Downloaded in 7min, install took 36min, so far, no noticeable difference on my mid-2014 retina macbook pro

I have the same Mac as you have.
How about the estimated battery life?
The update to 10.11 GM cut my battery life in half, ranging from 2.5 to 5 hours from heavy to light usage.

Guys, mine has been stuck on 23 minutes for the last 20 mins. It did go down to 22 mins for a few seconds but then it went back up to 23 mins. :|

Is anyone else experiencing Similar issues?

Yeah, that viruses are in the App Store and that stupid people will get viruses from safe places too

Malware in apps that was caused by developers looking for a faster mirror for XCode, instead of being patient and waiting for it to download from the official source -- much like you asking for a mirror for your operating system.

restarted now the download won't even begin :(
Any instructions on changing to those google DNS servers someone mentioned?
