Thanks. That is what I'm doing until someone gives me a confident "all clear" on those 2 software packages. One can't fully judge by complaining posts because those can often be complaints aimed at many different things. I believe the fundamental idea of this kind of website is to make it easy for people to help each other out through communication, not to just rah rah or bash Apple/Samsung/Microsoft/Google, etc. Often one can ask these very kinds of questions around here and get definitive answers from others who know from direct experience.

Besides, this is a brand new release of OS X. Complaints will come pouring in but finding the few that would answer my very specific questions would likely prove difficult.
Since the applications I work with are Photoshop, Illustrator and SketchUp, I shall be following the forums very closely, and I would never bash my darling Apple, but... with over 200,000 posts after Yosemite on the whole internet dropping issue, Apple (to the best of my knowledge) never acknowledged that there was a problem. People mess up - even the wonderful folk at Apple. Just say mea culpa and try to fix it - don't deny

From making a Yosemite install USB (8GB) - how to stop install and make your install USB - you can later go back and go through ElCap install normally.
"If you want to install at a later time, close the Installer window. When you're ready, you can find the Yosemite installer app in your Applications folder or Launchpad. Open the app to begin installing. Your Mac might restart multiple times during installation to installrelated firmware updates."
Downloading 6.08 GB now to applications folder - slow...ly
At 135ms speed looks like about total 2 hours to D'L

I guess on OS X there is also a need for full screen apps and split view huh with more screen restate .

The OS may be rock solid, but what good is it if apps crash ? holding off, till most of u take the fall :D

All i can say is APPLE - please have this as a USB stick purchase for $15 or something because its too painful to download 6GB in Australia, it's going to take 2 days to download this. I am sure there are other countries who have poor internet speeds also. It was bad enough with Lion, Mavericks and Yosemite.

It appears that changing the DNS server works for some people when they encounter upgrade programs. I had good luck by changing to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8).

Any extra info on the issues you're having would be great.

EDIT: There is a workaround for the AU validation bug on NI's user forum.

Also issues with iLok copy protection, a number of audio drivers. Many many audio developers are listing issues and recommending not upgrading yet. At this point it seems foolish for anyone using their mac for audio production to update for a while.

Does Outlook 2011 work with exchange yet?

I doubt it, since the GM candidate still broke Outlook 2011 - and a GM candidate is not likely to receive any significant updates anymore. I think we have to hold our horses until the next round of patches and updates from Apple and Microsoft.

On a related note, El Capitan is also not compatible with Asix AX88179 USB Ethernet adapters anymore; Yosemite was.

It takes long time on the step Setting Up Your Mac and I dont know how updating is going on, damn Apple >"<

That's where I'm at as well. Cisco 2960G switches (gigabit) all the way out to our provider. I just hit 1GB downloaded with 2 hours to go (which just jumped up to 7:45).

BL.

I decided to pause the download and do it some point in the future. 52 MB downloaded in about 1.5 hours is giving me flashbacks to the early 2000s. I was going to say 90s but I remember using the internet on a 2400 baud modem (and slower modems but those were mostly pre-web) when it could take hours to download a few megabytes.

Is it just me, or things are going backwards with respect to the installation times? I remember the time when installing Windows took a couple of hours... and now it seems the latest OS X versions are going that way, while installing Windows lately is very very fast.

And mind you, it's a Late 2013 Retina MBP. Just installed the newest beta on another Macbook with an SSD and it took what it seemed like forever.

Similar problems here at work...

...but "screen-shared" into my home MacBook Pro and the download was VERY fast and it is currently installing.

So it isn't totally a server / Apple problem - it appears and more a "where you are when you try and download it" problem.
