Well, its up and running now. Slow to boot. Mac OS X 10.11 Build 15A284
Maybe it should be a requirement to only load it on an SSD equipped mac? heh.

Some web pages do seem sappy when loading. the Preview app also is faster it would seem! so not too bad so far

Those companies have had access to the El Cap betas for months. I don't understand why their stuff isn't ready on release day.

Because sometimes things change between beta and release and third-party developers don't always want to spend time chasing a moving target? So it can make more sense to wait for the real, final version and then update the app as needed.

Thanks. That is what I'm doing until someone gives me a confident "all clear" on those 2 software packages. ...

Besides, this is a brand new release of OS X. Complaints will come pouring in but finding the few that would answer my very specific questions would likely prove difficult.

That's why a graphic design forum would be a better place to look.
Of course, people who depend on functionality of Adobe CS for their jobs are probably not updating anyway -- if it aint broke, don't fix it an all that.

Is there any good mirror to download El Cap?

Did you not learn anything from the recent app malware infestation on the App Store?

I paused my download and then restarted. Much faster pace. Perhaps it takes a while for the release to propagate to all the servers?

It said 2 days remaining. After pause/resume now at 19 minutes.

Okay, I just updated to 10.11 after coming from the beta. But now I'm told I have an update available for the public beta. (10.11.1)

Is there a simple way to avoid the beta updates moving forward?

You just know Apple has you when people start talking about a "redesigned beach ball" something users won't see too much...

lol

It takes long time on the step Setting Up Your Mac and I dont know how updating is going on, damn Apple >"<
Yea, setting up iCloud account took a long time for me. Not sure what it was doing or if just so many people were hitting whatever server handles that.

I decided to pause the download and do it some point in the future. 52 MB downloaded in about 1.5 hours is giving me flashbacks to the early 2000s. I was going to say 90s but I remember using the internet on a 2400 baud modem (and slower modems but those were mostly pre-web) when it could take hours to download a few megabytes.

I thought it was just here!
I have a 65mbs cable connection, and this update is the slowest in recent memory! Cannot believe that this update is any more in demand than the Yosemite, IOS 9, etc, so overloaded servers probably is at least 1 actor BUT...oh well, it is a free d/l so what the hell...hopefully this will be a quality "upgrade".

I'm in that group of people. And I also asked about Pages '09. This is an Apple forum with tons of people jumping on El Capitan today/tomorrow, etc. Some of them are going to be users of Adobe CS 5.5 programs and some are going to be Pages '09 (DTP side) users. It's likely I can get the best answers to what I want to know right here. You don't appear to know the answers to my questions. Thanks for the suggestion for me to hunt elsewhere but I'm hoping I can get the answer here... from like-minded people who will soon know for sure... especially as such people start trying to use those programs on the final release of El Capitan today/tomorrow.

Like everyone else, this is taking forever to download. Finite bandwidth coming out of Apple's servers I suppose because I have 160Mbit cable here that's idling... Looks like no update before bed, sadly. (UK)

*Update - pausing the download and resuming does help. Went from 4 hours to 45 minutes.

I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 7 and a MBP with Yosemite. So far Notes works without problems between both. Does anyone know if I'll have problems when I update to El Capitan?

Just make sure you don't upgrade notes when asked.
