Updated. Everything went fine. No wifi issues, no mail issues, no user folder issues just smooth sailing.

Something strange happened with my Early 11 MBP 15" and Dell U3014 in clamshell mode.

Before the update, when i used to boot into Win7 (Bootcamp) i'd needed to increase the sharpness of the Dell monitor to around 60/100 to make things clear. If i left the sharpness at that level for OSX it looked rubbish and i needed to put it to 0.

With the update I now need the sharpness at 60 for OSX! I guess it saves me from changing it when i boot into Windows but still its 'different', and god knows we hate this different stuff

Is anyone else having trouble with dual monitors and a 2013 rMBP in clamshell mode?

My setup:

Late 2013 rMBP 15" w/ NVIDIA 750M clamshell mode
Apple Thunderbolt Display @ best for display
Dell UP2414Q (MiniDisplay Port, running on DisplayPort 1.2) @ best for display

On 10.9.2, I could use both monitors.

Since upgrading to 10.9.3, I can only use the Thunderbolt Display OR Dell UP2414Q. I cannot use both at the same time. I've verified this behavior by:

1) Plugging in both displays
2) Unplugging the Dell - the Thunderbolt Display becomes active.
3) Plugging in the Dell and unplugging the Thunderbolt Display - Dell becomes active

(No reboots/logouts occurred between the steps, and I've verified that both Thunderbolt ports are working.)

I've already tried reseting the NVRAM and SMC.

You should be able to use UP2414Q + another thunderbot display if you disable the DP 1.2 on your Dell monitor and use the 4K display at 30hz.

The reason is that in order to support UP2414Q 4K at 60Hz, thunderbot 2 already consume nearly all the bandwidth and because displayport 1.2 also has bandwidth limitation, it use MST which mean it's drive Dell monitor like 2 monitor with half the resolution at 60hz.

My Macbook pro 15 inch late 2013 can max drive a UP2414q using thunderbot, another Dell U2410 at 1920x1200 60hz using HDMI, and macbook's own retina display. I think the HDMI 1.4 port can drive a better display at 2560x1400 60hz or another 4k at 30hz. But I don't have the equipment to test it out.

Screen Sharing

Looks like they have fixed the issues with screen sharing software like AirDisplay. So I can use this again now without having to loose my built in iSight camera!

PS. My home folder is still visible so I don't know if your machines have some kinda issue...

darn, no mention of fix for gpu-kernel panics w/ mid-2010 mbp's.

i guess i will have to go back down to OSX Lion for a more stabler experience with my mbp.

but downloading 10.9.3 now anyway and see what happens.

My /Users folder went missing from Finder on my MBP (Late 2013). Got it back running: sudo chflags nohidden /Users

Didn't happen with my Mac Pro (mid 2010). Odd..

Thanks for the restoration tip for /Users. I understand Apple's drive to 'hide complexity' but some changes seem baffling; Im at a loss as to how this particular change helps average Joe users and it annoys those of us who can navigate a file system without breaking or wiping everything.

I do wonder at times just where Apple seems to be taking OSX.

I assume the 1920 x 1080 is the 'native' pixel doubled resolution. That display at the recommended resolution must look gorgeous.

You are absolutely right. I think it's even better than Macbook pro retina screen because I prefer the matte screen. But other resolution works well for me. Don't forget Dell 24 inch monitor has highest dpi on any desktop monitor that I aware of. Yet 24 inch still significantly bigger even compare to 15 inch macbook pro screen.

Speaking Safari, it very frustrating to watch Safari start to load a url and then stop. Happens a lot. Have to hit the stop button and then the refresh button again, to get it to completely load.
This happens also with Safari v5.1.10 under OS X 10.6.8. So it is not a problem of Safari v7.x.x and OS X 10.9.x. Firefox does not have this problem, because they do not use WebKit.

No real problems

Huge download. Clean install. The eerie security sidestepping auto reboot without logging in. And some folders made invisible because Apple now thinks hiding the filesystem from you is helpful.

Command line unsuck of 10.9.3 folder hiding:
cd / && sudo ln -s Users Users_ ;
cd /Users/ && sudo ln -s Shared_ Shared ;

The chflags command exactly undoes what Apple changed, but you'll end up arguing with every update and Disk Util permissions repair going forward. I prefer the symlink solution.

No.
Code:
sudo chflags nohidden /Users

Seems Apple has hidden the Users folder with the 10.9.3 update. Seems funny that after 15 years, they would do this. But it fits their philosophical goal of hiding complexity from users who really don't need to see it anyway.

Still showing up for me even after repaired permissions on my 15" Retina Macbook Pro. I'm on an admin account if that makes a difference.

I just did that and my folders are not hidden. My guess is you were using a 3rd party disk utility ?

I have an assortment of Macs around me right now. Some have /Users hidden, some don't. There's no pattern, and I'm not using any 3rd party disk utilities.

Same here on two Macs: /Users visible after upgrade to 10.9.3 and after repair permissions. The hiding seems more like a bug since there is no reason to hide the users homedir (which holds all of his data).

I agree. I would think that choosing to hide the Users folder would be more in tune with a 10.x.0 release, not a point release (such as when Lion [10.7.0] hid the ~/Library folder). It seems odd to change an essential system function mid-release without any warning or notification to the user.

Past OS X updates had un-hid the mach_kernel file in /[root] by accident, so perhaps this is an accidental hide as well?

Still haven't updated - am still on 10.8 (ML) - couldn't stand the slow reconnect to Wi-Fi after wake; there is literally zero lag in ML. Some general odd misbehavior and sluggishness also turned me away from Mavericks, hope 10.9.3 reports will be more positive.

So jealous... :D

Are you getting 60Hz? Any lag?

I think you made the right choice in displays. There are larger 4K displays but this one has the highest pixel density, double the usual 24" ones.

This will probably be the display to get for 2014. It's unknown if the current nMP or the 15" rMBP would be able to drive a pixel doubled 5120 x 2880 (2560 x 1440 'native') display.
