Never mind... Googled "sign up for public beta Mac OS" and found a page at Apple to do this. I thought I was already signed in for that since I'd done it with some Yosemite updates. Downloading now.
Right-o, thanks.Installed GM over previous beta on Macbook Pro with success , but then I tried my MacMini with laterst Yosemite and its a total crash , several restarts and kernel panis , which have been reorganised into restart again and so forth . Now im at recovering from Time Machine . So I would suggest to wait !
Hello, i just wonder if i update my OS X to el captain gm version will everything i have on the hard drive dissepear?
Or can i update safe and without any lose?
Sorry for my bad english, I'm from sweden!
Alex
If you do an update to El Capitan everything will stay .. if you do Clean install to El Capitan then you start clean but all your apps n settings are wiped..
How do i just update then? Don't want anything to disappear!
Inside of the installer process windows there should be (Upgrade or Clean install option ) << i'm going off my memory .. The only way I've done is Upgrade process starting all the way back to Tiger (10.4) to Leopard (10.5) to now ...
Someone on here will tweak my post for not giving the proper OS update process steps ... Like I said i'm going from memory ..
Edit: Backup your stuff even before you install on your main drive so you don't lose your files by system crash or something .. Always backup your stuff either TimeMachine or Cloud Backup service ... Backup routine always should be part anyones computing routine on Windows or Mac or Linux ...
Do any of you with the GM candidate know if you can still turn rootless/system integrity protection off?
I've been using Aperture just fine in all the El Capitan Beta's...Can someone tell us whether Aperture still runs okay on El Capitan?
If not, Yosemite will get a good long run.

Thank you.I've been using Aperture just fine in all the El Capitan Beta's...

Given that it's a low-level API that's pretty much tightly integrated into even the rendering of system interface elements, it has likely been in El Capitan since the earilest beta.Could anyone tell me please if the GM version of El Capitan already includes Metal API ?

Something like this can't be added in at any random point in development.
Well, the requirements for Metal are greater than the base requirements for El Capitan itself.Oh ok I didn't know that. Thats quite bad for me because I still experience some UI lag on EL capitan.

It may be possible that your Mac is simply just too old to be able to support the API.
I don't recall the requirements for Metal, but I'm sure you can find them somewhere.
Right-o, thanks.

I went ahead and made a separate partition to test the GM Candidate (Build a) and it was very stable. No crashes or bugs to speak of. However the Feedback app was still visible, which clearly suggests that Apple is not quite done yet. With that in mind I will hold off until the final GM build is released before I properly upgrade from Yosemite to El Capitan.
Actually I bought a 2015 Macbook Pro Retina so that shouldn't be the problem.
I also connected to my macbook a 4K Display what experiences the most UI lag. That shouldn't really happen especially if apples support site states that you connect a 4K display with a Macbook Pro.
The visual lag may be due to the refresh rate of the output, and there is nothing you can do.
From the Tech Specs page on the Apple site, it seems that 4K is locked to a refresh rate of:
30Hz for 3840x2160
24Hz for 4096x2160
This is below the 60Hz possible with 1920x1080.
I think I know what's going on now.My macbook pro 15 inch 2015 should be perfectly fine running a 4K monitor but how far support goes as apple states?
I don't know really if support means that you could handle a 4K monitor without any lagging in the UI or is it just about displaying the resolution.
The funny thing is that there is no UI lag when I am setting the standard (3840 x 2160 ) resolution what is actually unusable of because of the small icons, text and so on. In contrary to this scaled resolutions just don't work well
I think I know what's going on now.
It would seem that the output is only optimised properly for 3840x2160.
Support usually does only refer to the ability to display a resolution. Some PC displays can actually show resolutions above their native, but it's not usually recommended to use them.
There are things you can do to make 3840x2160 more bearable.
-Increase Cursor Size (System Preferences > Accessibility > Display)
-Increase Icon and Text Size. (Any Folder > Right/Control-click > Show View Options)
