That's how I've done it on my Macs, so far so good!

2013 MBPr, 2013 MBA, and 2012 Mac Mini all took it fine.

The Mac Mini has sound issues, so will be interested to see if DP6 finally fixes it. Problem is that volume goes to full blast when the screen goes to sleep, and the only way to get control back is a sudo command to reload the audio daemon or something.

Bold: No it didn't, you have sound issues, I have a mini and no such problems

My gosh those folder icons look hideous. I'm not a fan of some of the new icons in general but the folder icons take the crown, they are just plain horrible.

The general interface of sidebars and small icons are monochrome, why make the folder icons such hideous neon color that just looks out of place and distracting?

It's hard to describe but it seems they just lack definition/contrast and the color is just looks out of place.
I didn't like them at first either but after a while you just kind of get used to it. It's more like I forget what they used to look like until I look at my desktop running Mavericks. I think it fits within the entire operating system though.

DP5 is available as a full installer on the developer portal. Need to redeem a new AppStore code.

Install that, then run a delta update on DP5.

Gotcha.

Just figured this out. DP5 is the FULL INSTALL and a 5.06GB download. I'm downloading that now. Going to update from Mavericks 10.9.4 to Yosemite DP5 and then run the 898MB DP6 Delta Update...

Like I said, my external SSD on my iMac is my "main Yosemite" volume, but I am pleased with the stability at this point and would like to run it on other machines. It offers a much more exciting user experience than Aqua Candyland, that is for sure!

Aqua Candyland = default OS X "Aqua" vs. Yosemite UI

I don't believe so; I've heard of problems that result from doing that. You'll need the DP2 full install, then use the Mac App Store to update to DP3, then 4 and so on...

DP5 was a full install, you don't need to go back any further than that. I can't comment on the public beta version, I forget which DP it was the same as.

Is yours a 2012 model? Other than the sound glitch, it works just fine. I figure that eventually it'll get fixed, or I'll just wipe the drive and load Yosemite from scratch when it goes RTM if it doesn't. It's only a minor inconvenience at this point.

Just to be clear, the Mac Mini had Mavericks, and the sound issue started as soon as I installed PB1 on it from the App Store (upgraded over Mavericks on this machine). Had nothing to do with then going to DP5 and then DP6, it has been broken ever since PB1.

Makes you sick? Really? You realize that Mavericks isn't that much different from Mountain Lion, right? Did Moutain Lion make you sick too?

I meant Yosemite, not Mavericks. I've been thrown a for a bit of a loop with this non-cat naming convention =P

I'm actually using 10.9.4 now and relatively happy with it, though I crash a LOT now and didn't with 10.9.2.

I don't understand why people trash Apple's OS releases, and then they don't bother to mention what they don't like.

Fairly certain I said the interface. The flat design is, in my opinion, horrible and unsightly, and the icons are, if possible, worse.

Your comment is worthless unless you justify what you've said. Go back to Panther if you don't like Mavericks and Yosemite...

If I wanted to go back to a PowerPC version of MacOS X, it would be Tiger. Panther was still relatively incomplete. Granted I'd have a bit of a difficult time running any PowerPC software on a Core i7-based MBP.

Heck.. go back to System 7 while the rest of us move forward.

I do, on occasion, via baselisk. On the other hand, there doesn't seem to be much by way of internet connectivity on System 7 these days. Not even 7.6 :(

While a lot of the features in Yosemite are certainly nice, and indeed steps forwards, the interface which I specified, at least in my opinion, is a step backwards. A shame we can't skin the way we could in Mac OS 9 and earlier. All we have now are icons.

That said, I'm glad you seem to be enjoying the ride into the future on your high horse :)

I get the feeling that a lot more stuff still doesn't work with DP6 that did at a similar stage when Mavericks was being tested. Seems like still loads of bugs and many apps that are at least a bit shaky from the bug reports here. Anyway, that's the impression I am left with.

What a mess of an icon set.
This could have been much, much better. Looks like icons from 10 different designers/sets thrown together.

What a missed opportunity.

New in Safari: When you saved more than one user account/password for a webseite a dropdown appears and you can choose the user/password combination.

I don't see the new drive icons. My external USB disk drive still has the USB icon and is rounded. What gives? :|

Re-read your post before you replied, I know it was there after I re-read it.

No need to reinstall, try making a new user account, then restart and log into the new account, still have issues, if not there is a small problem in your normal user account.
You could also hold down the Shift key right after you login into your normal account, this way it won't load Login Items, if the issue is gone you can go into Users and groups and disable all login Items, the add one by one until you found the one which causes the Audio problem.

Edit: I have the 2012 Mac Mini

Yikes! They've taken the flat look a little too far here.

but if "we" keep spinning flat like this: "OS X Yosemite brings a flatter, more modern look to OS X" eventually there will be too many that equates "flat" with "modern," such that all dissenting views will be beat down as "trolls", "99% like the more modern (flat) look" and, the usual favorites: "$1XX billion dollars in the bank says otherwise" or "if you don't like it, don't buy it".

Apple just goes wherever it wants to go. Good or bad, many of it's followers go right with them, working up their own spin points why something like an image of flat crayons makes "magical" design sense: "but the genius of flat crayons is that it should be so much easier to stay within the lines."
