Yeah, Apple's solution is obvious. But neither my most used apps or workflow is ready for retina yet. My solution will probably be: buy the last macbook air 11" who come with Mavericks pre-installed...

I got the best of both worlds: retina 13" MBP mid 2014. Great for reinstalling Mavericks whenever I need (will test Yosemite GM tonight though).

I have a OS X Yosemite Developer Preview 7 1.0 under Update, but i can't seem to install/download it.

I'm running the public beta with build 14A329r

Instant Hotspot and Handoff stopped working

Public Beta 4 and 8.0.2 seems to have stopped handoff or instant hotspot from working for me. Anyone else got this combo working.

I understand SMS relay requires 8.1 but wondering if all handoff stuff does as well.

Airdrop still ok.

Anyone got instant hotspot (not personal hotspot) working with PB4 and 8.0.2?

So I haven't seen anyone talk about instant hotspot but I have a 5s with iOS 8.0.2 and macbook air (2013) with yosemite beta 4 on it. I can't seem to get my phone's connection to show up as an option for instant hotspot. Has anyone see this work yet?

this did work well on public beta 3 but seems to be broken on pb4. Have you got any handoff stuff working now?

Can you please lay off the idle chit chat and post any problems that you find with this release so I know if I should install it.

Every page of this thread is going to need a post explaining that you need iOS 8.1 to use SMS handoff.

Anyone else have this issue?

I've been waiting patiently for some time for this to be fixed, but it still isn't fixed, even after this update:

When I hit the volume up/down buttons, there's no indicator that it's louder or softer. Normally when you hit it, it makes a small noise as to how loud it is, but I haven't seen it working since the beginning beta days.

Can anyone else try it and see if it works for them?

Should also mention, I'm using rMBP first gen.

Either the release date or the date of the rumoured October event?..

if there even is an event. invites would have to go out next week then. there would be not much time between now and public release either if its october 14th release.

This might be the first OS X release I am considering not upgrading to. The UI is obnoxiously bright, especially the traffic light colors. The finder UI looks clumsy and I hate the button styles. Many icons look blurry and poorly defined.

I have my Retina Macbook Pro running it, and honestly I am not happy with it. I can't imagine it looks better on non-retina. So I won't be upgrading my Mac Pro anytime soon (Which is my primary home machine).

So, anybody seen anything good on TV recently?

* Tongue in cheek reply to a post that I sincerely hope is meant as a joke.

Sure, lay off now but the fact is that this is the future of OS X and, one day, you're gonna have to deal with that. You can only stay on Mavericks for so long until Apple eventually discontinues support or drops features and you're forced into a newer version of OS X. It may not be to your taste, but as a Mac user you can't avoid it forever.

I question YOUR taste in design . . . and I'm a graphics designer.

So am I and the separated buttons don't look very nice compared to the connected buttons. A lot of UIs make use of connections like that, I've not seen any other applications have buttons like that mainly because it looks 'off'.

DP9 for me still had the problem where changing an audio output device from the dropdown list in system preferences/sound/output did nothing. If you have installed this GM candidate can you please try selecting audio output devices (i.e.: try switching from Line out to Internal speakers or another device if you have one) and see if it works? Thanks!

Seriously? After this has been mentioned about 1,000 times after every beta, you still haven't figured it out. I'm going to let you noodle this one out yourself. Only because it has been asked and answered again and again and again.

Bottom line is that it does work. You're just not taking the time to make it so.

That little volume indicator noise does work for me but changing audio output devices is very very hit and miss.

SuperDuper No Work

After all these update versions.....finally SuperDuper appears to have bit the dust. For the First Time it flat will not boot up. :(
