that's cool and all but where is my 12 or 13" mbp?! please don't tell me that the mba is the answer. the mba imho is eh.

Charging for Remotes Now???? Bad Move, Apple...

I remember that when my sister got her Macbook in November, it came with the remote.

Now, on both the Macbook and MBP you have to buy the remote for $19.00 ??

While $19.00 isn't exactly an assault on the wallet, it is a minor fleecing of the consumer.

Did someone not tell Apple's sales management team that they have $14 billion in the bank???

Apple nickel and diming....... awesome...

So far I've predicted 2 correct releases in a row, woot, I'll be here again for the next update.

Last year's summer release I hoped for 1920x1200 hi-res on 17" models the day before release and that came true.

This year I hoped for 256mb VRAM on base model and 512mb vram on High-end model, that came true (although they even included the mid-range which i didn't even expect)

So far i'm 2-0 :D

ordered

Just order my MBP (just the introduction model) Est shipping is 29th Feb, Delivery 6th/7th March.

what tells you its penryn? It still says core2 duo

GRRRRRRR

You people have been in a cave. Core2 duo is a branded product line name, like OSX. But there are different versions penryn is to Core2 Duo as Leopard is to OSX. Think of it as a 10.5 version.

They aren't going to rebrand the product every time they enhance it.

This is just a stop-gap. There are so many things missing it is not even funny.

250GB is the biggest HD? WTF?
No magnetic latch?
No higher res screens?
No larger trackpad?

Something tells me that they are planning something bigger, this was just lame update to at least compete spec wise with the other laptops out there.
I still cannot get over 250GB HD though, 320GB HDs have been out forever.

For a laptop, 250GB HD is pretty good, when they max out at around 320GB.

Some Update..

well, the good news is: i have very little reason to upgrade from my mbp..
this is the second update it survives without me feeling like it's obsolete.
cool)

At this point, most people already have a remote... I bought one with an iPod dock when they were first released. I also have another one in the house for my roomie's macbook pro. a lot of people have one for apple tv. it's really not that big of a deal.

Just because you do multiple remotes doesn't mean everyone does. I have never met anyone that has an apple tv, or has purchased an apple remote

There's something I've never understood about businesses, and it's basically why they don't stick with what made them successful, For me Apple was always top quality, and all the nice little touches (the remote in this case). The more a company chips away at their costs the more they chip away at their own image, and as a result the less people buy their stuff because they no longer have what made them unique, then the company cuts more stuff to save costs, so they lose more customers when they should be spending more to gain back their customers. It becomes a vicious cycle, that can implode a company. just look at Sears or KMart. I'm not saying that Apple is going to implode, but I think they should stick to what made Apple appealing, and I think they chipped a little tiny bit away with the remote.

Thank you all..

Suffering with everyone on the board has been a real experience...

I just ordered my MBP and am so happy to be finally making the apple switch over!!! :D ------> pretty much sums it up...

No magnetic latch?
No higher res screens?
No larger trackpad?
Same old keyboard...

This computer is looking TIRED. C'mon the least I thought they would do is bring the keyboard into line with the rest of the models. I can't believe I've waited months for this. How underwhelming.

These new MBPs also have Bluetooth 2.1.
Hopefully the next update bumps the graphics to the 8700.

Overall, a nice update, but not enough to entice me to rid myself of my MacBook. The difference in performance would be negligible. I'm definitely waiting for summer once Intel drops all the better Penryns (more FSB, more speed, same voltage).

For a laptop, 250GB HD is pretty good, when they max out at around 320GB.

The thing is that they DON'T max out at 320GB at the Apple store. The biggest you can get is 250GB. Why on earth wouldn't you offer the biggest HD available at least as a BTO?
Considering that the 500GB HDs are just about a month away, this is ridiculous.

Sorry but this is one LAME update. They could have released this weeks ago.
No, Intel Penryn was delayed because of bugs.
Uses the same exact motherboard. They just dropped in penryn and upped the vram and hard drive and swapped out the trackpad. LAME. No new design, no mag latch, same horrible plastic borders on the edges. No blue ray no mobile wifi, no sd card reader.

lol, how many times have people (including myself) posted that it was going to be an extremely small update.

i love when people get all worked up over rumors and expect the new mbp to be able to be used as a parachute when skydiving and make them french toast, and then a small update comes out and everyone cries. it makes for great entertainment. :D

I can understand no remote for the MBP as a remote might seem a little tacky for a professional machine.

However, a remote bundled with the Macbook always seemed like quite a good idea, given that a lot of these machines will be bought by consumers like students leaving home who may use the Macbook as their main entertainment hub. I use my remote all the time.

Switchers won't have a remote. And many of them will not want to pay 19.00 for a remote because they won't know why it's so handy (from experience anyways) you are right many Apple fanboys (myself included) do have multiple remotes, but mine all already have their dedicated place, AppleTV, Ipod AV Dock, MAcBook Pro, Mc Mini.

If I were to go get a MacBook or MacBookPro I would want a remote for it so I could keep it in the carrying case, not shared with my other devices.

Congrats on your new MacBook Pro and most importantly, congrats on making the Switch

That's why you buy when you need it. ;)

But I agree it seems like everyone is mentioning the same things. I wonder if they'll do a major overhaul next version.
