BLAST! I Just bought a BTO 17 inch...should be coming on weds...Is there a chance it could be one of the upgraded models?

The thing is that they DON'T max out at 320GB at the Apple store. The biggest you can get is 250GB. Why on earth wouldn't you offer the biggest HD available at least as a BTO?
Considering that the 500GB HDs are just about a month away, this is ridiculous.

I think that depends on the supplier of the drives. The only 320 gb laptop drive I recall is made by Western Digital. Unless the suppliers actually have that same size can they make that option available. If its based on Apple's choice, then I guess there is always opening your MBP and replaceing the HD?

BTO option on the new MBP is:
300GB Serial ATA @ 4200 rpm [Add $68]

Actually, the 320GB drives are not that easy to find in the UK at least. It's quite possible to get hold of one, but not nearly as prominent as 160/250 hard drives in the shops.

Apple would be stupid giving people on option which isn't in plenty of supply.

Is anyone else having problems ordering the 17" with high-res display? I have tried dozens of times to order online and three times over the phone...system problems...?

Suffering with everyone on the board has been a real experience...

I just ordered my MBP and am so happy to be finally making the apple switch over!!! :D ------> pretty much sums it up...

Another unhappy camper you are. Maybe next time you should wait on VistaRumors.com

nice update was hopping for a new design but o well. I'm not ready to purchase yet maybe in the June-ish and get a free nano...

I can understand no remote for the MBP as a remote might seem a little tacky for a professional machine.

However, a remote bundled with the Macbook always seemed like quite a good idea, given that a lot of these machines will be bought by consumers like students leaving home who may use the Macbook as their main entertainment hub. I use my remote all the time.

I tend to agree with this regarding the "Remote Fiasco." I personally have never used Front Row, and my MBP-packaged remote is still sitting in its plastic in the box in the office. But, n = 1.

Now the remote would be kinda slick in Al. Oh, and with a laser pointer for presentations. Oh! and RF instead of IR. Oh! And works like the Wii-mote! So Cancel the RF! I'd definitely pay 19 bucks for that!

Only on the 17" and it is not quite a 320GB...

That would be a first. :D

A fair update. Nothing too crazy, but enough to warrant an upgrade. Expecting anything more at this time is wishful thinking.

i know these updates are usually not all that, so my expectations were low,

and im really chuffed at the update i been waitin 3 months for,

i get double vram, .2ghz extra speed and extra power for logic 8.. i get 80gb more hd space...led screen...hope the yellow probs have gone...i get multitouch.....and leopard

im very happpy

only downer is 3gb L2

can some one tell me if i buy 2 x 2gb stix memory, will it only use 3gb of it?

if so, should i buy 1 x 2gb mem to add to 1gb apple stick, or is it better to run equal 2gb stix??

PLEASE SOMEONE ANSWER THIS IMPORTANT QUESTION

sorry for the caps

thanks in advance

The mbp never had 3 usb ports until now. Ive had the past 2 generations (2.33ghz and currently a 2.2ghz) and they both only have 2 usb ports.

Funny... my MBP 17" C2D has *3* USB ports. One on the right, and two on the left.

And the 500GB will appear at WWDC announcements!

Finally!! :)

OMG, I'm actually in-shock that this day has finally come - I've been wanting to upgrade my Powerbook since January 2007!

I was hoping for a magnetic latch and the MBA/MB keyboard but I'm fine with what we got b/c Penryn was the main reason I waited.

Anyways, just placed my order for the $2,500 config (w/glossy screen) and used my ADC discount. Total: ~$2,100 with tax...Shweet! :D

I sure hope so. I'll wait with my next MBP until there is at least a 500GB HD in there. 320GB would have had me thinking but this way I'll wait until the next revision.
This being such a small update really makes me think that there will be something else in like 4-5 months.

No Blu-ray = No Sale

Disappointment again at Apple for refusing to jump into Blu-ray.

I think the Asus eee will have Blu-ray before :apple:

the remote

I've seen many complaints here about no included remotes and am curious: are people upset because of the principle of it (paying $19 for something that was once bundled in) or are you missing something that you truly can't do without? My fiancee has one that was bundled in with her MacBook about a year and a half ago, but hasn't taken it out of the plastic so obviously we haven't shown a demonstrated need for one.

If loosing the remote comes along with upgrades elsewhere in the machine at the same price point, I'll go with the hardware upgrades. However, I'm still curious to know how useful the remote has been to others out there. Maybe then we'll take ours out of the plastic. :D

Great! I just bought mine at the Mexican Apple Store Online. Should ship in 5-7 days. I'll post some unboxing video... :D
