I just ordered mine for $2600 including tax.

I just couldn't wait till June/July for the new (Montevino) update.

I wish the specs were better though..

like a 2.6ghz base model
quadcore option
higher L2 Cache memory
Higher 15" resolution
8GB memory capacity

etc. etc. wishful thinking..

I love how you put the Superdrive in your equipment sig - the same drive EVERYONE has had for several years :p

The new penryn 2.4ghz model with the 256mb graphics card seems to be the best way to go but I wished that it had 6mb cache instead of the 3mb cache. But the 2.5ghz model jump do give you the 512mb vram on the graphics card but I see no benefit for the 512vram because of the 8600m gt cards only having a 128bit wide bandwidth, so the 256vram card would be the perfect fit.

Ordered the base 15/2.4 MBP this morning. It's pretty dumb that simply wanting the glossy screen pushes the order back. With expedited shipping my estimated delivery is March 5-10. Hopefully sooner than later.

Yeah, it sucks considering the fact that we could walk into an Apple Store and buy a glossy screen MBP. Since you can do that, it shouldn't be considered BTO but maybe it is b/c the new models were just released.

I just hope the shipment doesn't get delayed after March 3...I've seen it happen before.

good news! My order states that it is being prepared for shipment! Hope yours is too.

After not being too impressed with the upgrades, I ordered my first Mac from Amazon. Got the MBP 2.2 SR model for $1536 after mail-in-rebate. Even if the Montevina updates come out in 6-8 months, I could probably resell my MPB for near or more then the original price.
No plans to sell since I don't actually have it yet, but considering retail is $1999, I figured it wasn't worth paying the extra $500 for Penryn, multitouch, etc...If I'm really blown away with the new design/specs then I'll sell and get the new model and pay pretty much the same amount for a much better machine.

Do you see what I see?

okay this is probably not what I think it is, but I see something different in a picture than what should be there.... its on the apple.com site under the macbook pro.. on the fifth picture to the right it is a MBP but it looks like the case is black with blue keyboard lights. Go to http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/design.html click on the right picture... does it not look like a silver mbp trimmed with a black keyboard and like black around the lcd? Even the lighted keyboard looks more blue than purple... hmm... maybe its too late for me.. mabye i am just seeing things..... dunnnooo

Got Mine - heres what i got to say

alright well first off, i purchased my macbook pro from the apple store on wednesday.

to the poster above questioning the macbook pro picture on the apple site..

no, its just shadowing that makes it look like its black and has a new keyboard, it doesnt.

anyway, i had a pro before this one, and the heat issue has seriously been address by apple. The amount of heat that comes off it when im rendering video with premiere pro is negligable.

my last pro got pretty hot. this one not at all. thats all i have to say.

I'm getting new MacBook Pro envy since the new models came out. Out of curiosity, how much did you sell your REV A MBP for? eBay?

Craigslist with a couple of throw-ins (I had an extra retail copy of Leopard and WinXP lying around) for $1450. Can't complain, it was a Rev A from March of 2006.

Asked my husband to pick me up a Penryn 15.4" 2.5 model on his way home from work and the funny guy brought home the 2.6/7200RPM instead  .

A serious upgrade for me, that's for sure.

What was your previous model? I guess all the previous MBPs would have had 65nm chips if I'm remembering right though.

That's surely the sleep depravation setting in. I a lot of us have bought, received and/or seen the current models and there isn't a black keyboard on any of them.

And not that you mentioned it, but I know many are thinking it.... there is NO gun metal MBP nor will there ever be one.

Did it!

Just bought a 15-inch 2.4 GHz Macbook Pro.

Specs:

200GB HD
256MB VRAM
2GB RAM
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Accessory Kit
iWork '08 preinstalled
Aperture 2 preinstalled
Apple Remote (yes I paid the $19 for the stupid thing:p)

Extras:
Ipod shuffle 1GB Green (what's an extra fifty bucks when I'm paying this much for a computer? supplements my 16Gb Ipod Touch:D)
Canon PIXMA MP610 Printer ($100 rebate!)

SO.... I'm one happy camper right now. Been waiting FOREVER to buy this. Finally sold my old Dell. Now it just has to hurry up and get here!:apple:

Was yours BTO?

The only thing I changed on my 2.5Ghz model was for the glossy screen and that's considered BTO. Mine is still "not yet shipped."

Has anyone who ordered a BTO had theirs ship?

i ordered a 2.5 BTO on tuesday and it shipped on the 29th...its currently in alaska

Toronto Apple Stores have these in store.

I bought the 2.5Ghz 15" two days ago, matte screen, will have 2 additional GB RAM installed. I was thinking about putting my external 250GB 7200 rpm laptop drive in at the same time, but the 5400 rpm in this computer is great already.

I've had a series of laptops, but this is the first laptop I can't use on full brightness. It's too bright.

you will get a further message telling you your order has shipped, it will then take a further 5 or 6 day for delivery as it leaves Shanghai at the shipping point

don't worry you will get it between 10 - 12 the march

New MBP Airport was defective - got it Exchanged !!

I am yet to test it with other networks. But not sure if its the router since my other 3 laptops work fine with this router - MB 2.2 GHz SR, IBM Thinkpad T41 and Samsung P30 (the fastest one on the internet) running windows and with a PCI 802.11g card.
As for the Aluminium enclosure, I doubt it because I have tested with the MBP being close to the router (5-10 feet) and also while being a room across from it.
In both cases Airport Menu icon shows 4 bars (occasionally 3) indicating excellent signal strength.
The Apple care guy suggested trying to add a new service(Airport) on Network Preferences to over-ride any changes I made and make use of default network parameters. Did not work !
Although, an interesting observation is when I initiate many applications requiring bandwidth (Speed Download, Web browsing, Streaming media from websites) the net downlink speed peaked up to 250 kbps (as seen in Activity Monitor: peak value for network throughput) but the average remains below 100 kbps for sure !

Would call up Apple Care today :(

After 2 days of tearing my hair apart trying to fix the wireless throughput issue on my New MBP, I went to the store and proved it to them with a side by side comparison - m MBP and an old Merom based MBP, using speakeasy.net/speedtest. It was at least 75% slower than what's expected !!
So I have a new (new) MBP with me now and very happy with the blazing wireless speed !!
All is well that ends well :D
Cheers !

What is this throughput your talking about?.. was it your airport wireless card inside the new mbp that had a problem? Even ever since the first mbps that was released wireless downloaded and speed was blazing fast.

I will be reborn (a human this time) March 5th 2008

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH break wall, break computer, throw the TV control, punch myself, bang my head on the wall, eat all my finger nail, yell at my neighbor, drive 100miles to work, eat 10 cups of coffee/hour, download every antivirus software possible, and every other horrible thing you can imagine.... That was my life when I was using a PC. I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. I have NOTHING but bad experience with PC, but I am hoping to be saved from the PC hell when I get my new MBP this Wednesday. I fell like I will be reborn, which I am sort of. I will be in a more happy world, the mac world. Sorry if i sound stupid and childish, but I blame it all on the F*^(*&ing PC. I HATTTTEEEEEEE THAT MO7jdjk;ajksdh;lkakjs. I will drive my car over my PC (which by the way it should stand for Piece of Crap!) when I get my mac or better yet I will burn it muahahahahaha.....see what PC has created. Me, a monster.

ive got a pc...built it myself.never blue screened.beein using it for the past 2 years.and i didnt use top of the line stuff...pentium d 940 3.2ghz,not core 2 duo...1gb ram,not 2gb or 4gb....intel 965 chipset...gefore 7600gt..200gb HDD....WINDOWS XP.......but, it works,well.
i think if you maintain a pc properly itll work properly.once you treat it harshly, then itll be harsh back.

Pc's will get the job done but just not the way I want it to. I've used a pc for 15+ years and I've only had 3 virus but the last 8 years I havnt had a virus. All you have to do is just use mozilla and dont download warez or pr0n.

I've switched to macs just 3 years ago with a powerbook g4 17" last rev.
