Gongratulations. How come you got your comp. that fast??? That's impressing. 2 more weeks and I will hopefully get mine - if I'm lucky...

I was surprised myself. I ordered around april 20th and got it today april 30th. Apple has learned. I waited 4 weeks for the last PB G4 rev A @ 1Ghz. I was so pi*** off that I sold it a week later. This one is another story alltogether. It's fast and was delivered very swiftly. I'm very happy with it so far.

It's heeeeeeeere!!

I was shocked this afternoon when FedEx knocked at my door... Last night the FedEx page showed it was still in Winnipeg (next province over)... so I thought for sure it would arrive on the estimate ship date (May 3rd). Funny thing is that this morning when I went to refresh the FedEx tracking page, my internet connection was down (and was still down up until about 30 mins ago - after FedEx had dropped off the package)... Coincidence? I think not! :p

Anyways, I have yet to open the package  I have a family function this evening, so I'm going to hold off until tomorrow morning... I know that if I open this thing up tonight, I won't be leaving my house... My mouth is watering just waiting for this package to be opened... Am I torturing myself, or what?! LOL

All in all, an excellent experience with FedEx... I placed my order on April 24th (Saturday night), was notified it was sent out for shipment on the 27th, and that it would arrive on/before May 3rd... I was surprised it arrived today -- just in time for the weekend!!! Thanks FedEx!

A bit-off topic I know but...

I've been using my new 12" PB for a little under a week now and I am SOOO happy with it. :) I also just picked up a new silver iPod mini in Vancouver, Canada to go along with my PB. Man, they look so good together! :D

hi all, i've got my new PBG4 1.5 GHZ portable. All ok, no dead pixels, etc. It's a very fine and snappy machine. The only gripe I have for the moment is that it is impossible to boot from an external drive with a Carbon Copy clone of my previous OS 10.3.3 from a Desktop G4. Anyone else having this problem. Maybe, this version of the PB uses a specific version of the OS ??

thanks for any suggestions

I had the same problem - used CCC to move my whole computer over, wouldn't boot - even though it was X 10.3.3 also. Then did an "update" with the DVDs that came with unit - all was well.

Hope that helps!

Just Purchased Powerbook 15" (1.33 gig)

I just purchased a Powerbook 15" (1.33 gig) from the NYU bookstore. They have a promotion that includes Apple Care for $1850.

So far, it runs great. It's not dramatically faster than my Powerbook (550mhz), but it runs much more stable. I will report more after I increase the RAM and install more applications.

Does anyone have any recommendation for RAM? I know there are several non-Apple brands (Crucial, Kingston, Samsung, etc..). Do any of them perform better (faster or lower power consumption)?

0kb availble on 80GB drive.

so I got the
15.Ghz
15 inch faster HD 512 MB memory faster Video card
powerbook.

I typed in all the first personal info stuff and the Software Update ran, and said I can't install anything because i had no disk space. on 80gb drive....

I repaired permissions and still nothing.
I had to re install system. not it is working just fine. and loving it.

I wonder it had to do with the fact it was a upgraded HD.

WOW

New PBs ONLY boot from OS X 10.3.3 build 7G33

I posted this a while ago (man, this is a long thread) but all the new PBs require OS X 10.3.3 build 7G33 to boot - ie. you can't even boot them from a CC clone of a previous 10.3.3 build and you can't boot off the Panther upgrade discs.

Maybe its something to do with Panther and the new chips power management processes...

I'm sorry this has nothing to do with with the conversation but I wanted to know where you got that avatar aswitcher, that's a great picture, reminds me of the art in "Scary Stories".

They usually won't deliver on Saturday, unless the order is specified to do so. It also costs more.

ordered monday, sent a copy of student card about 11pm last night, powerbook turns up 12 hours later.
not quite as good as my ipod orderd friday night, received monday morning but still great service.

Well i would definitely say you are wrong. As an experienced apple user and one who has/had the previous aluminum g4 powerbook at 1.25 ghz, i have noticed a power and performance difference between the 1.25 and 1.5 ghz, in addition i owned an original titanium powerbook and it was slow compared to an ibook, it is dramatically faster where it counts and while you have the slow config of the 15 inch it is still a powerful processor, I would recommend Crucial.com for your memory, it is the best quality and bang for your buck, i would recommend buying one 512 for 129.99 or one 1gb for $400 if you have the money

nope. The will deliver before 10:30am on monday though, so i'd have someone at your house, otherwise you'll need to wait till the evening to pick it up at the earliest.

I've got it

Against all odds I got a letter today from my local reseller: they've got my PowerBook with 128 VRAM. This thing rocks so bad...

No bad pixels at least I think. This computer is so burning fast - compared to what I'm used to (look below)...

Sweet! Bought a 15" PB 1.33 combo drive today- took the extra loot I saved by getting the combo and got a dual firewire 800 drive bay with 2 removable seagate barracuda 7200 RPM drives (1 for boot disk, the other for audio files and backup). SOOOOO quiet! i can't wait :D

p.s. now where are those g5's?

Thats a neat setup - I'm going to need to get some more storage for my 15" (already capping the 80 GB hard drive!) Anyone have some good FW 800 Drive recomendations?
