I feel extremely lucky. Not ONE bad pixel, white spot or mark of any type on my display and the Colors are Beautiful and Well colored. I love the screen all 15.2 inch widescreen inches of it

only with Apple would customers feel extremely lucky for not recieving faulty hardware...

i guess i was hoping for a bit more of a savings :)
Crucials price for a 1GB stick is: $435.99
1GB — CT368654 DDR PC2700 CL=2.5 NON-ECC US $435.99 (each)

Apples price is $500. granted Apple charges $1200 for 2GB and you could probably get by under $1000 at Crucial including shipping...
but i was hoping for something a 'bit' cheaper pricewise.

i hope i'm not starting to sound like all those 'where is my G5 powerbook' ppl. ;)

A bit Off Topic, but is it possible to use PC2700 memory in a PB 12" that uses PC2100?

Just got a £55 rebate from apple due to the price of hard disks dropping in europe. Not many companies would give that back.

From my limited dealing with apple over the last couple of weeks I can say they one of the best companies I've ever dealt with. There staff have been friendly and helpful and they keep giving me money back. Or dropping the price of what I order so I can upgrade.

If the product meets my expectations then I will most definitely order from apple again.

PC2700 instead of PC 2100

A bit Off Topic, but is it possible to use PC2700 memory in a PB 12" that uses PC2100?
Last night I installed a 256MB chip pulled from my new PB :p and put it in my wife's ibook 933 and it works just fine.

Yes this is possible but the memory won't run at its full speed. It will just run a PC2100 speed but should be fine!

;) ;)

Thanks. I knew that I wouldn't see a speed boost. I was looking at the future. Figured I would be better off with higher speed RAM for newer machines down the road, than older speed chips.

Thanks

Got it today - 1 day early! I am amazed by fed ex - from china to denver in 30 hrs!!!

first couple hours spent draing the battery (to calibrate) and transfer over my files. First charge lasted for over 3 hours! I was loading about 25 gb of data over ethernet, so this is not bad at all for batter power!

I have the 1.5 ghz 15" model with superdrive, 128 mb vid card, and 5400 RPM drive. 512 RAM in 2 sodimms

ran xBench - I think that people who are getting low scores are not closing all their backround windows. these are my scores...

total score: 135.02
cpu score: 170.68
thread test: 132.64
memory test: 149.59
quartz graphics test: 179.43
open gl graphics test: 117.14
user interface test: 227.21
disk test 75.46

kicked the pants off my g4 800 quicksilver in all tests but disk, which the quicksilver won due to its 7200 RPM HD.

Halo runs very well compared to my old system! I can pull uup the resolution and the graphics (not to highest all across the board though!) and its runs beautifully and smoothly.

ghost recon runs AWSOME! full graphics and full resolution with smooth frames rates! HORAY!!!

UT2004 takes some tweaking but is plenty playable, it still chokes the system a little though... I am playing the demo by the way, I don't know if the full version is more optimised.

1 dead pixel that won't rub out, oh well. kind of an annoyance, but I'll deal. I'm puzzled as how to my sound isn't working anymore though - worked fine until about 30 min ago. guess I'll truck it into the apple store 5 min from my house.

note on the wobbleness. I had read someone say that their wobble was only their when the lid is closed, but not when it is open. when the lid of the pb is closed, there is a small gap between the case and the monitor - this is how they have been forever. when you rock on this lid, the mointer has freedom of motion to hit the case, when you open it you are moving the base (which is secured by 4 kind of rubber stoppers). My case doesn't wobble, and I would venture to say none do, and that these "wobble" reports are from people testing this with their monitors closed.

let me know if you want some more info - this machine is BEAUTIFUL and snappy!

Yea, I noticed that with the lid closed it wobbles more, but as you said it was just the gap. I does wobble the smallest amount with the lid open. It seems to be getting better.

What about Europe

Have some of you who live in Europe received your Book yet? Or has it shipped?

If you can say yes to one of the questions above; where did you order from? A local reseller or the Apple Store?

I just talked to my local reseller here in Copenhagen Where I ordered and they say it will at least take two more weeks before I will get it - and I ordered tuesday the 19th. To mee it seems to be a pretty long time compared to those reporting from the US that have ordered after me...

I just had my local apple dealer here in Belgium on the phone and he said that the new eMacs and iBooks have arrived already but the Powerbooks haven't... Unfortunately that's the one I want!

wobble

I thought that we were all spealing about WOBBLE of the case as it sits on the table top. my old REV A used to woblle on the desk. very irritating.

So, i put a book under it, all was ok i guess.

But i think that all the lids wobble when closed to create the space to reduce the problem from the Ti's, marks on the LCD.
Which was easily stopped with a simple piece of paper tween them..

Duh!

Hi!
I am from Norway and ordered a BTO 15" PowerBook Superdrive monday 19.04 from the online Apple Store.
It was sent from Taiwan last sunday (25.04), but no tracking information available at my Order Status page.
When I called Apple Store in Ireland on tuesday they said I will get it early next week.

Another weekend without my PB! :(

Hi Solaris,

I guees that's the trick: Order from the AppleStore it seems that you will get your computer a lot faster. Yearly next week that's pretty fast compared to the arrival of my PowerBook...

It was kind of what I expected. But I couldn't get the student discount through the danish AppleStore...

PÅlease when you get new wonderfull toy... :) :D

Have you ordered a BTO or is it a custom build PowerBook? I'm impressed that your local dealer :D has already got the iBooks - that's fast. In Denamark I'm pretty sure we haven't got any of them yet...

I'm talking about the stock ones. The BTO's would be another week, and I need the new one urgently...

Yes local dealers, what would life be without them? :D

Hi... I buy it 19/4 and suppodsely shipped 16/4 but it is in taiwan. I guess they want to full a plane to europe or something. Today they told me by phone that will be here early next week also. I know from a friend that works in a local store that when you buy it with them apple delays it 2-4 weeks more... I guess that is to promote the applestore.
About the edu discount it is strange because you can get it via web, via phone and even the local resellers...
let's see...

BTO PB via MacWarehouse SHIPS

Hooray -

An update here. The 17" BTO PB that I ordered through MacWarehouse appartenly shipped today (two day FedEx, Monday. What is it with always hitting the weekend! lol).

Earlier I had posted that the machine had it's ship date revised from 5/2 to 5/15 or so. I call today to kind of shake the cage and see what is up with my order - I had a hard time getting my rep on the phone and was a bit frustrated. The rep I spoke to confused things more and couldn't tell what was up with my order, even implying that there was a billing verification mixup. Very disconcerting. Then he calls me back about ten minutes later and says, oh, it came in and we're shipping it today. You'll have it Monday.

So, ordered Tuesday 4/20 and shipping out nine days later. I guess the reseller route wasn't too painful.

I'll post more with the machine if this thread is still alive next week...

update...

This thing is amazing, sadly when I have lots going on it can slow down a bit - but I reallyh need more RAM for the stuff I am doing. Once I get a 1 gb so dimm things should be perfect!

heat is very minimal on the top, gets warm on the bottom - nothing uncomfortable though

fan is never on

quite - so so so quite

even when burning a DVD I couldn't hear the SD spinning

This machine rocks - if you've been waiting, this is what you've been waiting for

2-4 weeks is a lot. I can understand why some resellers are angry with Apple....

As for the edu discount. I can only get it if I buy through a local reseller. But if I go to the danish AppleStore on the web it's not a possibility.... Maybe it's due to the fact that the danish state pays for all of our education and therefore the danish students are as bad (money-wise) as the average student around the world??? I don't know

I hope for you that you will get your machine as expected ;) Good luck!

It is a pitty that you cannot use the web to get the discount... have you tried the phone?
I am not sure that my machine will be here early next week because it is suposed to arrive to luxembourg, then to holland and then to spain... :(

You got lucky! I'm shaking that cage pretty hard too but it doesn't seem to have any 15" BTOs in it! BUT I ordered on Friday so they may have cleaned out the warehouse by now.

 Hello All,

My 17" BTO PB, Fedex site says it left Shanghi today, I used the 2-3 day faster shipping, what do you think would be a realistic delivery date for me to have my baby in my hands!

I have allready recieved the 512 mb ram from crucial.com

I'm freakin so excited............ :D

I'd say Monday if it's already left Shanghai. Fedex works over the weekends, they just don't make deliveries.

Is it possible that this machine beat out my friends dual 1.25 ghz MDD g4? Or did he just run xbench improperly? his total score was a 132.21 and the 15" PB mentioned above beat it in every test except for the disk test. Is that possible?

I heard the three greatest words today " out for delivery". My frist Mac, an iBook.

I hope this mean never using the three worste words ever " CRTL ALT DEL"
