I was told by Apple Australia earlier this week that Resellers can call a special number to find out where their customers orders are. This should be something to press them to do tomorrow to try and get a real answer.

When i went to the store all they said was that it says awaiting shipping information. They said that all this means is that they aren't in australia yet, for all they know they haven't been shipped yet. They also told me that this number was unreliable.

Mmm. Well I have good news. I just got advised by my reseller that my 17" BTO PB should be here today! :D

I ordered on the Saturday of the Anzac day long weekend, so they probably didn't process the order until the following Tuesday in April - if thats any help to you about time frames.

TOSHIBA MK8026GAX

I just recieved a 17 PB BTO and wondered if the TOSHIBA MK8026GAX HD is the 5400? I also got the 128 9700 which does show up in the system profile.
I am enjoying this new toy and was wondering about the FPS in itunes with the visualizer on, the max I am getting is 30 FPS how can I increase this or is this OK?

Haha Pigdog,

I also just received my BTO 15" PB (like 3 minutes ago), and I absolutely love it. no wobbling, warp or white spots. Unfortunately, there is one pixel stuck on green in the lower right corner of my screen, but I barely notice it. I will keep rubbing it and hope that it goes away. I was so afraid there would be a dead pixel in the center of the screen like my last PB.

I also got the MK8026GAX and ran a google check. Apparently it is the 5400rpm drive.

Congrats on your new machine :)

Recieved my BTO 15" 1.5ghz today. It is absoultuely perfect. No stuck pixels, no wobble....just perfect.

I'm in love.

Hope everyone who is still waiting gets theirs soon. It is AWESOME!
:D

New PowerBook has arrived. :D On charge now. Casing looks fine. Madly reading manual. Was told to let it charge for 5 hours! before playing with it. Damn. :(

Looks like I am a disqualification.

Just got off the phone with Apple. Appears my PB is DOA. It might be the ram that my reseller installed (here's hoping) but Apple think its a DOA.

My 17 PB

Thanks for the confirmation of the 5400 HD, I also have a perfect screen, I have not noticed white spots or wobble NO stuck pixels, and yes it is tough to have a stuck pixel, my old 366 ibook had one from new but it still served me from 1999 and is still being used!

Yeah

My Powerbook has just arrived and it looks beautiful! I have noticed a couple of minor paint blemishes, but they're hardly noticeable.

What is the correct procedure for getting started. Can I switch the machine on during its first charge, or should I leave it switched off?

What is D.O.A aswitcher? I hope this isn't a huge problem.

:D

Sh*t!

I really hope its just the RAM thats causing the problem.

I want to switch the machine on but I'm worried that I might damage the battery. Shall I wait until it is fully charged and then power up?

Cheers

Depends
1) Hitachi is the primary supplier/manufacturer of 80Gb 5400 drives to Quanta(company that makes apple pb's for apple)
2) did you Bto a 5400 rpm drive, then if this is so it must be, but do not rely on google to check
3) if it is you are lucky, while hitachi is a great company(used to be ibm drives) toshiba makes better portable drives, i have a toshiba but then again i didnt need the xtra 1200 rpm because it really does not make a signific performance difference, :) Enjoy

it looks like that is correct, my pb is the toshiba mk8025GAS not mk8026GAX

Fear not! You can't hurt the battery by turning the machine on. It ships charged. Just turn it on. If Apple wanted you to wait, they would have told you to wait. They would have confronted with a big sign when you opened up the box that said "Before turning the machine on, plug it in and charge it for 5 hours! To do otherwise voids your warranty." They didn't do that, did they? Turn it on...

My Powerbook has the Hitachi drive. But rather than simply wonder, open up your System Profiler and check the ATA tab.

OT: C&C Generals for Mac?

wtmcgee said:
i'd say it'll be a nice upgrade for such a small monitor. i have the rev B powerbook with a 32mb nVidia card and it runs fine for day to day stuff, and even light gaming (ive played c&c generals, simcity4, and a few other games, and it runs just fine on lower settings).

doubling the memory and a faster bus speed should only make things better.

wtmcgee,

maybe i misread your post... but do you play C&C Generals on your mac? if so, is it through VPC? i saw your post and checked the C&C website but didn't see a mac version. :( am i missing something?
thx

Today I broke... I had ordered already a long time ago the 12 inch, went to the shop and they told me I would have to wait for another week... So I added a few euros, and bought the 15 inch

First impressions: very good machine, quite fast, no stuck or dead pixels or wobbles or so... perfect condition. Quite different feel from my previous 867 mhz 12 inch. The only thing which is a bit disappointing is that the battery, which I am calibrating right now, gives me an estimate of 3 hours... I had hoped for a bit more. Or am I being spoiled?

MUST....KEE.EEPPP THREEAAD ALLIVEEEE..!!!

Hehe. I've had my 12" PowerBook Superdrive for a little over two weeks now and each day, I appreciate the little bugger a wee bit more. This be my first ever laptop, and what a way to get started then by buying the best laptop on the planet. My next PB will definitely be a PB G5.

The thing I love most about it is obviously the portability, but also it's very quiet. Makes editing videos while connected to my 20" Cinema Display a very pleasant experience.

Its great to see so few Wobbles and Stuck Pixels,
although there are those few poor sods with the stuck Pixels or two.

Any one here have trouble with the Super Drive as one person was stating was a known issue?

Lets not forget about the heat issues!? Puhlease! :D

Well at least I know when I get a working one it will be a nice machine to have ...

Have you tried removing the extra RAM installed by the reseller? Surely Apple would have no means to check that YOU opened the PB. The 17" is quite picky with RAM (a lot more than the 12" and the 15") in my own experience.

Or maybe you will wait for a replacement? (I know that I wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to open it...)

I have no dead pixels or a wobble by the looks of it, which is great. aswitcher, I'm sorry about your machine, I hope you have it soted out soon!

My friend ordered a 1GHz PB last November and he got an iLife DVD with it including loads of loops for GB. I don't seem to have this DVD bit iLife is installed. Am I missing something?

Thanks

Twisted T

Aswitcher...sorry to hear the news mate. Dumb question, but what does it mean for the computer to be DOA? Does the system not boot up or the screen doesnt work? Sorry, Im new to the world of laptops...
