I second that - active engaging debate is the way forward. Let's just keep personal jibes and frayed nerves aside. On a side note, I do think the 12" PB has bad heat issues still....my house mate got the latest one with me (me 15.2" her 12") and it did get really hot on the palm rests for her. I guess it's always a compromise between all the factors :p.

Nothing is perfect in this world anyway.

All I can say is that you are all a lucky bunch of Powerbook owning people!

I can't believe that I ordered my high end BTO 15" an hour after anouncement and it still hasn't arrived. It feels as though I am never going to get it. I'm so piss*d off!

I was looking forward to getting my PB but now I'm not, I just need it here soon so I can get on with work that I have fallen behind on.

I'm in the UK and am thinking now that I should have ordered from the US.

Will it ever come, and does anybody else feel my pain?

It will be 3 weeks on monday and still no Powerbook... gutted!!

Strange cos I got mine and my original delivery estimate was for the 26th of this month. Hope you get notification soon.

I know mate. I read your post when you got your machine and felt hope that mine would turn up soon after. I've paid £2000 for something I havn't got yet and everyone else has!

Sorry, I'm just really annoyed and need to let it out.

Thanks anyway X_Entity I'm glad that at least somebody else in the UK has recieved their machine, I hope your enjoying it.

I'll let you know when or if I ever get mine!

Cheers

IT'S HERE!

and it's in perfect health. i haven't downloaded and run the pixel checker utility yet, but it looks good. it's a beautiful machine and it was beautifully packed. i'm looking forward to loading it up and using it on a daily basis. enjoy! :D

Well yes, up to a point, but personal opinion masquerading as data doesn't really advance our understanding. I can't help it, it's the scientist in me!

I know i have put a lot of writing into this, but at the end of every line i have said enjoy your powerbooks because Apple is a great product and everyone should be proud of owning one, so much better than PC's its not even funny. Thanks GrokGod for defending me, i have been trying to make the valid point of saying that Apple has a history of shortchanging its lower end computers even if they are not a really lower end price, i pointed out the differrence between the 8600 and the 8500, the 8600 costed 3400 and the the 8500 was 2600, but the performance difference was even greater and that sure is not a low price especially for 8 years ago, the same thing applies to the most recent g5 with the difference between performance and motherboard issues with that. The price of the base model isnt that low and you would definetelyexpect more from it. Now the same thing definetely applies to the powerbooks and ill be damned if apple would change this practice today or ever for that matter

hey mpopkin, i cant believe the amount of typing you've done over such a trivial issue. who cares, let these folks enjoy their new pbooks. ever heard of a measurebator? this isn't intended to be a flame. it's just that I think I speak for many when I say; we're sick of this subject! and frankly none of your proof is very conclusive, or persuasive. ;)

I would like to say one more thing about the 7447A issue : Apple also points to the Motorola 7447A site for the ibooks in their developer notes.

Could it not be that the 7447 has been discontinued and replaced by the more recent 7447A chip ?

Oh yes, and mpopkin, even if you're not right about everything, I still very much appreciate your input.

Quick question... is anyone else's Powerbook stuck from 'Regulatory Agency Clearance Delay?'

Mine could have been here on Friday, but stupid FedEx has it stuck in IN. Got a sweet deal for 10% off educational prices too.

3) I have shown proof from the motorola page, citing previous examples of this processor as existing only at 1.5 ghz and with the MPC7447 being used at 1.33 ghz by Apple

Oh yes? Sow what is this?

Cool laptop bag

I was looking for a cool laptop bag for my PowerBook 17". I looked at booqbags and stumbled upon Everquest Design Soyuz bags.(www.everquestdesign.com)

Anyone know anything about the bags? They seem really cool and unique with a piece of Soyuz parachute on the front.

i get the same message from the fed ex tracking page. my powerbook was supposed to be here today. i called fed ex and they said that our computers are stuck in customs because they did not have the proper paperwork with them. fed ex has not been able to get a hold of anyone in China to get the information.

i cant wait to get my computer! (my very first mac)

i got mine

hello everyone,

i have been frolicking around this forum from the first day and i am happy to say that i finally have my 15in maxed out powerbook. althought i use macs a lot at work and have got many a friends converted over to apple, this is officially my first mac.

everything seems to be ok, except 1 red stuck pixel. as some people suggested, i rubbed around the area with a cloth piece and it seemed to start working again.

but after few hours it was stuck on red again, and was fixed again with rubbing. you guys think it would fix permamently over time?

otherthan that i am extreamly happy, i have to play around with it a lot, since i always used someone else's mac, i have not dug in deep enough

regards

gandharv

Ordered my BTO 15" 1.5Ghz powerbook last night. According to Apple it will shipp by Thursday the 13th. Hopefully it will be here (bay area) before the end of the week!

- 1.5Ghz w/128mb VRAM
- 1x 512mb RAM
- 80gb 5400rpm drive

I'm hoping and praying that the screen has no dead pixels. My last powerbook (Ti 550Mhz) had one dead pixel at the center of the screen that was a nightmare. I ended up doing a LCD transplant from a broken 667 TiBook and I don't want to tear open another powerbook again. It's never the same once it's been wracked to pieces.

PLEASE PLEASE let me have a clear LCD screen! :(
