Actually really stoked on compact tab bar, ever since Firefox sorta removed theirs I felt that browsers and UI devs were moving away from a minimalized workspace.

As a purist, I'm satisfied that I can turn off most of the new stuff and don't have to endure it as a visual disturbance. Somehow I know such overloaded 'helpful' compilations, like Apple does now, from Windows. Forever some information wants to be pushed into the consciousness, I don't like that.

Why Apple now also lets Safari design features be modified by website creators is a mystery to me: What's with the blue "chameleon" bar after logging into Macrumors? Not a fan!

Who actually wants so much color stuff? Does that make life more colorful? Hardly!

update2: In the meantime I like working with the new Safari very much again. You are free to not go along with every new nonsense at Apple, that's good.

Staying on macOS Mojave. There are plenty of browser options at this time.
I hope you're aware that as of exactly a week ago (13 September, when Apple released critical security updates only for Big Sur & Catalina), Mojave is no longer a supported operating system. Plenty of people are fine foregoing the latest features and functionality enhancements in newer OS releases, but sticking with an older OS that now has glaring, unpatched security holes is another thing. You might want to consider at least upgrading to macOS 10.15 / Catalina.

This makes Monterey an even LESS compelling upgrade OS.

They made a big deal about the changes to safari only found in the Monterey upgrade.

Now they are rolling it out to other macOS.

AGAIN. sort of makes you wonder...... A whole year of brainstorming to produce an OS with very little noteworthy upgrades.
Yeah this whole year of updates is poor macos has like nothing exciting UC isn’t even worth it for me, apart from new safari what’s the point of macos 12

Safari seems snappier!
I cannot confirm this on my new iMac M1. Before the update, this Macrumors page ran smoothly, now it jerks (barely but still noticeable) when scrolling.
For testing purposes, I had an app running in the background with 60% processor load in both cases.

Ugh, maybe I'll get used to it but right now I'm finding this "chameleon" toolbar very awful to look at -- it's different on every site I visit and calls so much attention to itself. If you switch tabs a lot, it's very distracting. Maybe someone will write a plugin that stabilizes its appearance. Not a fan!

You could always... turn it off

You could always just use Windows 11 ... oh, never mind, won't run on Apple silicon ;(

I've been running the Montery beta on my M1 Mac Mini since the first developer build... I've found that it is the same browser we have all come to know and love under all the cosmetic changes. Though I haven't gotten around to messing with the tab collections feature yet.

The idea is that the address bar and the controls don't get into the way and give the feel of the website expanding throughout the whole browser. I think it's the only positive change I find in Safari 15.

I was a little worried at first that the tabs where below the search tab at first but quickly found the setting to get compact tabs and it is so much cleaner now with more space to work with (especially when on a laptop, but still nice on my desktop)

I think I just applied a security update in the last month. When snow leopard was around I stayed on that for like four years until I was forced to buy another computer by Apple.

Anybody have a good explanation as to why Passwords are now just a random frickin' jumble?

So, can anyone recommend me some Safari Extensions? Chrome has tons, but Safari doesn't really have any. Has this new version incentivized devs to port their Chrome extensions to Safari, as was the intention, during WWDC in June?

It was closer to about two months ago -- Apple released a security update for Mojave on July 21. However, this was the last and final security update for Mojave. There haven't been any since July (in contrast to Catalina and Big Sur), and there won't be any more going forward.

So yes, of course you can continue to use Mojave for as long as your computer continues to function. However as of last week Mojave had known unpatched security holes, and this situation will only continue to get worse over time. Arguably Apple should support prior operating systems with security updates for a longer period of time, but unfortunately that's not the way things are currently.
