Installed a minute ago just fine. Hung on "running installer script" for a while, but nothing too bad and no other problems.

Why do I have to reboot my computer after installing a debug-release update of a web browser? It really beats me. Keep it separate from the OS... like a sane browser.

IIRC, it has something to do with the fact that Safari relies on a lot of the same windowing and rendering tools that OSX itself does.... That may be completely wrong however :)

It does seem silly, especially when the EU is investigating MS for similar practices of too-tightly integrated browsers...

Downloaded and Installed fine. I think you have to reboot because it changes system files:confused:.

No noticeable changes and nothing even seems faster than it was. Maybe for the first ever Safari update.

My Keywerl plugin does not work and that really stinks, but I already contacted the dev and hopefully a update will be issued.

Does it still choke on animated GIFs? Because that is annoying the heck out of me with Safari 4.0.1

Core web requires rebooting. The safari updates modifies system files. Its just like updating internet explorer.

That's exactly why I've been using FireFox. The GIF issue is annoying, because the sites I frequent, HEAVILY use gifs and it's frustrating when I want to use Safari but can't because of it's inability to load gifs.

You say that as if it is a point of recommendation !?!,
Another reason I'm using firefox,

What is so concerning about 36MB of space... I thought 36MB was not very much nowadays where hard drive capacities are in the hundreds of GBs.

It's not concern about a 36MBs. The problem is maintaining control of your computer.

Sometimes your browser gets redirected to websites that you don't want to go to. It might pose a problem if you are unable to delete X-rated images or other undesirable content from your hard drive.

Mikhail - could you specify which value we need to change, I've looked at both plist files for 1password and Safari, I can't see what to change...

best
Bruce

ya beat me to it :D

thanks for any help that anyone is able to give :)

I believe it is because Safari is a core part of the operating system.

Safari is not a core part. You can uninstall Safari without problems. This in contrast to not being able to uninstall IE on Windows. That said, I'm not aware of the reason it requires a reboot.

Ugh.

Every time I have to reboot just to upgrade a browser, I get that much closer to wiping the whole thing and installing yellowdog. So much easier.

Of course, since my iphone requires itunes, I'm locked in. Sigh. Time to go get that awesome 0.0.1 upgrade.

Keywurl was not tested with this version and disabled itself for "safety". Is there anyway to enable it? Does it even work fine?

I hope it is just the internet at work but all three of my computers seem very slow in rendering web pages after the update. It literally took me a minute to load NYT.com.

i think it's funny how people think it's the end of the world to simply reboot. LOL are there not more pressing issues to bitch and complain about? :D

Does Safari 4 still store screenshots from your visited webpages?

I once read a story of a guy who have like 36MB on his hard drive taken up by those images which according to him can't be deleted

that's keeping me from updating

It's clearly a violation of our privacy rights. I'm surprised the ACLU has not risen a lawsuit in Federal Court, sighting Constitutional privacy violations.

How is it a violation of your privacy rights? What the images amount to is essentially highly detailed cookies. They aren't submitted to anyone and are stored locally on the disk. If you don't like it then don't use Safari.

I had the same problem with the Firefox update also, and now with the Safari. It seems like the browser market has hit a "Vista" road block; they are updating for the sake of being able to say they have updated it, but the pork they are adding is slowing things down.

So how do I delete the screen shots before my mom reads all the emails I have been exchanging with my lover?

Yeah the sites I visit don't even heavily use animated GIFs, but if even one of a decent size is loaded, the browsers just spinning beach balls. It's horrible. I use firefox for some sites just because of this.
