Apple today seeded second betas of iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan to public beta testers, nearly two weeks after beta testers received access to the first public betas. Today's iOS 9 public beta offering has a build number of 13A4305g, which means content-wise, it's the same as the fourth iOS 9 beta that was seeded to developers yesterday. The version of OS X El Capitan public beta testers are receiving is also identical to El Capitan beta 4.

Beta testers who have signed up for Apple's beta testing program and already have the first public betas installed can update over-the-air.

The iOS 9 beta includes the return of Home Sharing for music, which was removed in iOS 8.4, and it's the first beta that supports Apple's new iPod touch. Other changes include a new look for Handoff in the app switcher and a bug fix that once again allows the volume buttons on an iOS device to serve as a shutter for the camera. A full list of changes in the beta can be found in our iOS 9 beta 4 tidbits list.

OS X El Capitan beta 4 focused more on performance improvements and bug fixes with few outward changes to the operating system.

Both iOS 9 and OS X El Capitan 10.11 are expected to be released in the fall.

Lots of issues with News App in update.

Mail seems to be more stable on El Cap now, it was crashing 10-15 times a day previously.

Are the El Capitan public betas pretty stable? I'm signed up for the beta program but haven't upgraded because I'm concerned about stability.

I've been using it since the first day on my macbook pro 2010 (with ssd) and have had nothing but smooth sailing for the most part. the only issues i've had are minor and non-annoying, no shutdowns or restarts or hangs at all.

HEre are the problems i've had, judge for yourself if they would apply to you.

1.Paragon ntfs wouldn't write to my ntfs usb drives. i updated to the latest version and no problems after that.

2. istat menus wouldn't run. again, updated the software and now it runs fine.

3. i initially enabled hiding status bar. after i disabled that option, i would see status bar in all apps except safari. i restarted and things went back to normal.

4. outlook 2011 hangs if i search in my emails.

The only app for me that doesn't work is fluid. but thats a niche app i imagine not a lot of people use anyway.

A little question: the update to the Public Beta 2 of El Capitan is available only updating directly from the Public Beta 1 or is it available also as a full installer in the Mac App Store of Yosemite? Because I can only download the PB1 in the Mac App Store...

I have an 2G Apple TV and an iPhone 6, and only audio AirPlay is available. This was also the case in PB1.

Mine is a 2nd Gen AppleTV and iPhone 6 Plus. I've always had video AirPlay in PB1 and PB2, however the connection is way flakier in PB2.

If you have a 5GHz network, try forcing the AppleTV and iPhone to connect through this network. I always found 2.4GHz networks were always flaky.

The AppleTV is connected via Cat5 cabled to the router and the iPhone connects via

WIRELESS LAN2
Wireless Band : 5GHz Band
Wireless Radio : Enable
802.11 Mode : Mixed 802.11ac and 802.11n
Channel Width : 20/40/80 MHz
Channel : 40
Wi-Fi Protected Setup : Enabled/Configured

I had no issues with this in 8.4

Well I saw someone else mention that in earlier betas. However look at the new dropbox app update that came out yesterday 7/21. "Fixes most common crashes for users running the iOS 9 beta"
View attachment 570570

The update fixes crashes people have with Dropbox when using the ios9 betas. It does not add any new features to be used with iOS 9. I wish more apps would do the same.

I have not received PB2 OTA yet anyone else having that issue? Any suggestions on what to do. I re-downloaded the profile and still nothing.

Ah so I'm NOT the only one. I downloaded it through a direct link. Also tried to enroll again, clicked the button and App Store told me code was redeemed. Where are you located? I'm in the Netherlands. Someone suggested it's rolled out in stages but I don't think it ever happened before.

Edit: oh, you're probably talking about the iOS beta...

Outlook 2011 is still not working for me - the app hangs and won't download. I've tried re-indexing and doing all the trouble shooting, jus hangs and I have to force quit.
I've tried the new Office 2016 that was released for Mac users just a few days ago. It work very well with El Capitan. I guess the 2011 version needs to be updated to work with El Capitan.

I updated directly from Mavericks but had to update to PB1 first then App Store showed me PB2.

Is anybody else experiencing a bug in El Cap where the Finder's side-bar won't stay re-sized? lol. It's super annoying.

I'm having this, and it's incredibly annoying. Honestly, probably the only thing that's really bugging me...PB2 is a lot better than PB1. That and NoSleep doesn't work but I barely use that anyway.

Yeah me too. I have a few that dont work but none are earth shattering but would still like them to work before the fall release (CVS Pharmacy, SpeedSmart and Camping world) to name a few.

Yes the IOS beta and I am in the US but it still says I am up to date on the software when I check for an update. Very strange

I'm sorry you have trouble, but I own two Macs and have configured a lot more with different email services for my clients. I have yet to run into the issues you are experiencing. Maybe I'm just lucky.

All I know is that some ISPs may proxy or interfere with your email access in some way.
And some junkie email servers don't like to get polled with multiple instances of email retrieval by an email client. Actually, I remember dealing with this email issue for a client back in 2004, but never again.

I had more email issues with Outlook on Windows using IMAP than anything else until Outlook 2011 came out.

Again, it is not just me. The issue is well documented online by many users. I am not making this up. Also, I believe the issue impacted users that upgraded their OS with existing mail accounts setup. Not necessarily new users to that OS. I have Comcast and Gmail (probably the most popular combo in the US) if that helps rule that out for you.

Regardless, thousands of people were impacted and I was making it clear to others that El Capitan seems to have resolved the issues I was having, with hopes that they have resolved the issues for all that were impacted. I am willing to move on if you don't believe me.

The question was not "Is it 100% stable?" ... OP asked if the betas have been "pretty stable" so far, which is a reasonable question (and, in fact, they have been).

"Pretty stable" relative to what? I understood his question and I disagree with your assessment. First, everyone has different hardware and apps, so it is nearly impossible to answer that question accurately. Second, what is pretty stable to you is basically barely usable to me. Many first and third-party apps crash or just simply don't work. Graphics performance is killing my games. The OS locks up occasionally and I have had to restart pretty frequently compared to what I did with Yosemite. I don't think that replying to him with "it's a beta" was the best answer, as the other poster did. But, if you are asking this question, betas are likely not for you.

I'm having a real issue with this beta, it stalls and odd bugs all over much more than beta 1. Installed on iPad Air 2 wifi only. The previous had minimal bugs. Never had these stalls before. It's useable but boarder line now. Beta :)

Try resetting all settings or even reinstalling again.

Oddly enough, one of the apps that was not working on the 1st public beta is now working with the 2nd without the app being updated. It also works when I use slide over and use other apps there. However, it doesn't work with split screen or PIP yet (eagerly awaiting those since this is an app through my cable company that allows me to watch TV on my iOS devices).

I downloaded and installed th beta on my iMac. When I try to enroll my MacAir I am told that my code is already redeemed. Is there a fix for this?
