Wow...it just hit me how ugly every window is gonna be compared to what we have.

This could be an inside bet with Jony Ivie to make everything as ugly as he possibly can, and see if he's still called a genius of design.

I'm going to have to disagree with you, Safari and iTunes were hideous with UIs that took up far too much space. The new UI is much better.

I presume the fact the volume keys don't make the pip sounds and the volume level blocks are now black is a glitch?

Nope, the volume feedback sound is defaulted to off.

Has anyone installed with a 3rd Party SSD yet?

Yes, been running Public Preview 1 on a Mac Book Pro 17 2011 with a 512GB Crucial SSD with no real issues apart from some 3d party software not functioning.

Installing Public Preview 2 right now.

Downloading, thanks Apple! I'm going to make some benchmark, Yosemite is already MUCH FASTER than Mavericks in 3D gaming and pro Apps! Great!

this awesome to hear, that 3D gaming has improved!

can you or anyone back that up with some benchmarks or frame rate tests? I am not doubting just would be really happy to see some hard data

How stable is it? Would you put it on your Dailey driver?

As an OS running most things it is fine, but it would all depend what software you use and whether or not they are currently compatible and working with the Public Beta.

I'm using it on my main portable, though do have an iMac to fall back to. Also did a full back up so can do a full restore should I have any major issues.

Am I the only one who is in love with the interface with Yosemite or something? I think it is so much better than iOS 7 / 8 and probably the best interface ever made by Apple. I love the translucency. Everyone seems to just bash it on this site.

Now, you clearly got some troll in your blood, but I just want to say this: You're using a bad example (iTunes). Compare the two Safaris against each other. At least the close/min/max-buttons have been vertically centered there.

So anyone who doesn't like this...or God forbid, criticizes Jony Ive is a troll?

Comparing Safari to Safari...it's still ugly! What a shocker!

Lag in launchpad

I am still having lag in the Launchpad, and when I unfold the applications folder from my dock, it's absolutely unbearable.

Does anyone else have this problem aswell?

Has text size in iTunes been reduced? Mine looks a little borked...

Not just the UK, have that problem here in the US. Got it to update on my PB 1 partition, but if I try to download the .app on Mavericks to make a USB installer, it gives that error. On the beta partition, it just spins and won't download again.

Nevermind, had to delete the first Yosemite Public Beta out of the /Applications folder. App Store will download it without the 2 which results in a naming conflict.

Dragon Dictate 4

Well Apple must have made a number of amendments to the sound/microphone processing in this version as Dragon Dictate 4 that wasn't working in Public Preview 1 is now working in Public Preview 2.

That was about the only one item that wouldn't even start under preview 1 as it crashed on opening.

The only thing I notice now is that shutting down and booting up seem to take forever even compared to PB1. I haven't actually timed it but its close to a few minutes for each one. I have a SSD too.

Anyone else having this problem?

Not a problem for me, just did a restart to check and it took 14 seconds from clicking restart to it being back at the Choose User screen.

Also using an SSD Crucial M5 512GB.

Hmm... Is there a way to redownload PB2? I just want to make sure every file was downloaded and installed properly....

Can I also confirm that they've changed the feedback sound as well? Seems sad to change a sound which is so iconic to Mac.

Although I agree the sound was iconic, I really prefer the more subdued tone of the new sound. I always found the older sound to be a little too strong and distracting when playing over audio content.

How stable is it? Would you put it on your Dailey driver?

Tricky question. Depends on what you do with your daily driver. If you put food on the table with it, I would not recommend. If you just use it for personal stuff, like browsing, documents, photos, etc. it's more than likely okay.

I run Yosemite (Dev build) on a separate partition, and it has gotten pretty stable for me. I'm not planning on replacing my main partition until public release, however, because I have been moving from late dev builds to GM releases for the last three OS updates, and I want to do a clean wipe of my machine this time.

iTunes 12 update today is crashing instantly when trying to restore an iPhone or iPad.

As soon as it detects a device in recovery mode...instant crash.

Thanks Apple. Beta or not, you just bricked my iPad because of this.
