How much longer until we get the iPod Nanite? These things are just way too small now. Too prone to being lost, left in pockets when washing or be eaten by your dog.

I think when it gets to be that small, it'll be integrated into a wrist watch or even ear-rings. So you'll only lose it if you're prone to losing your ear-rings or watches often.

If not, it'll probably be inexpensive enough for you not to care and just buy a new one and sync again with your iTunes.

pretty cool. the shorter battery life is a downer, though.
gizmodo reports that apple said that they will be making an adapter for third party headphones (problem solved, albeit for a fee. but if you spend $100+ on headphones, what's another $20?) it seems pretty clear that apple is into making (or marketing things as) thinner and sleeker, so this update makes sense.

Cloudnine - we can sleep well tonight knowing that all of these moaners can moan to their heart's contempt. Because it wont change a thing. This shuffle will sell, and people will enjoy it!
Oh, I am sure that the new Shuffle will sell well.

Some of us will wait for the adapter or third party earphones and then purchase one. :)

What does Apple, or any other company for that matter, owe you then?

If you like their product, buy it. If you don't, hmmm this is the part some people seem to struggle with - don't buy it.

If you don't complain, nothing changes. If someone feels something is wrong, yet all they see are positive comments praising the product and Apple, they will begin to think they must be wrong. If people don't buy the product, but don't explain why, Apple will have no clue as to what turned people off.

The 2nd part is the same as what the other person said. If you don't like something Apple has done, but you are/were in the market for an Apple product, protest it buy not buying (but also making your voice heard).

Seriously? They come with the iPod. Most people don't want to spend another $20-80 on a pair of good headphones. It doesn't mean the headphones aren't crap or poorly designed.
Oh really, so you mean most users (90% +) won't go out and buy new 100 dollar earphones to go with their 60 dollar shuffle, who would have thought.

What if the majority of users like this design, I guess Apple should change their design to please you and the other 5 to 10 percent, don't make me laugh.

Oh and i forgot... that voice is pretty f... annoying if you ask me.... besides what about spanish titles, german titles etc etc... would that crappy robot voice tell them right?

anyone see Walter S. Mossberg new shuffle review?

1) he said he had it for a few days now...interesting
2) loves it

a pretty glowing review....pretty influential critic.

I was just responding to your comment about why people use the original iPod headphones. It's not because they love them and freely chose them out of many choices.

People are mostly complaining about the proprietary headphones. That's what most of the frustration is about.

what if the majority dont like it.......
I'm willing to bet they do as Apple aren't a stupid company, Walter Mossberg seems to like them. That's a start, anyways y'all can keep going on as we see with every Apple update, gotta love the Mac community, as we move forward, the more things stay the same. :D

Yeah if you don't like them, go buy the adapter to go with your 100 dollar headphones. :D

Did you even go to the site? It has samples of other languages. They sound as well as text to speech can.

yeah but supose you have some spanish songs and some english songs ... the crappy voice won´t recognise if it´s spanish or english for example....

Goona, great point - over 90% of shuffle owners simply won't go out and buy aftermarket headphones. Those that will, however, are much more likely to be members of forums like this. So do you think that we are getting a true representation of what people will really make of this product through mediums like this...?

I'm sure the rest of us with aftermarket gear will be able to buy adapters for this before long anyway. But again, its not suiting you perfectly so its automatically no good.

anyone who buys this thing is a grade A SUCKER.

don't you realize apple is testing us to see how far they can push us?!?! if you go out and buy this thing, mark my words, they'll start releasing macbooks with power adapters that don't fit into standard wall outlets. you'll have to buy some goofy 8 prong macbook to 2 prong wall outlet adapter.

i have yet to see a single reason why placing the controls on a pair of ****** headphones is a good idea. it's not like the shuffle was too big! how about placing controls on the device AND the headphones!!!

please people, DO NOT BUY THIS THING!! IT WILL ONLY BE THE BEGINNING!!

Thank you. I was thinking of buying one, but not now!

Going from the positive/negatives on the front page, I'd say the majority of those who view this page don't like it :p

Also, since a lot of the criticisms are subjective issues, whether a reviewer likes it or not is up to the consumer when they try it to see if they enjoy it

They could have so easily put a small screen on this design - even if it was small and black and white so that the iPod would, natively, be positioned horizontally as opposed to vertically as seen in the ads. It could have taken up the top half of the device, and scrolled/alternated between the name of the song, the artist, and perhaps the album name. Then bellow that could have been buttons similar to the ones on the headphones.
This new design makes no sense and I, for one, am disappointed with Apple.

Soooooo.... I expect to be flamed mercilessly, but I love this little sucker.

I like the original shuffle OK, but it works poorly with high-end earbuds, as it has a significant 'hiss' that can't be heard with my standard earbuds, is barely audible with my V-moda Vibes, and is intolerable with my UE super.fi 5 pro's. I'm also unhappy with the charging base when traveling, and I don't like having to keep it somewhere exposed for access to the controls. The clip is also a little weak - my 2G Shuffle has taken several dives to the floor when the clip didn't hold well enough. Finally, I only use my Shuffle for workouts, because I can't pick and choose playlists, so I just load it with my 'workout' playlists, and call it good.

My requests for a new shuffle - control from the earphones, stronger clip, charging from a cable instead of a base, able to be worn 'tucked away', small display, playlist selection and control, and better audio.

This new Shuffle looks like it covers 100% of my requests, except for the little screen. The VoiceOver tech seems a little lame, but I'm willing to give up the size and bulk of a screen in exchange for the ability to change playlists from the earphone controls. That seems like an excellent plan.

We'll see about the audio.

I do wish I could use other earphones with this shuffle, but the reality is that I'll just end up putting my Apple in-ear phones on it semi-permanently. They're perfect for workouts - good but not great, and they stay in place excellently.

I totally understand if someone doesn't like this update, but it appears to solve everything I didn't like in the current Shuffle, all in one fell swoop.

I'll be at the Apple store tomorrow morning, cash in hand.

Some people in this thread are even insulting those who purchase the new shuffle just because they believe it sucks therefore those buying it must be a bunch of "idiots". I hate this kind of mentality, it's so prevalent on this forum.

Not only that, because I'm fine with offering controls inline on the headphones. Most people are frustrated that there are no controls on the iPod itself in addition. I use my ipod in my car, this would be impossible with the new shuffle.
