yeah but supose you have some spanish songs and some english songs ... the crappy voice won´t recognise if it´s spanish or english for example....

Why not? I thought that was the whole point of the software. It recognizes other languages and pronounces titles accordingly.

What I'm most curious about is if, when they add Russian support, if it will be able to read and pronounce Cyrillic.

They could have so easily put a small screen on this design - even if it was small and black and white so that the iPod would, natively, be positioned horizontally as opposed to vertically as seen in the ads. It could have taken up the top half of the device, and scrolled/alternated between the name of the song, the artist, and perhaps the album name. Then bellow that could have been buttons similar to the ones on the headphones.
This new design makes no sense and I, for one, am disappointed with Apple.

Amen.

Going from the positive/negatives on the front page, I'd say the majority of those who view this page don't like it :p

Also, since a lot of the criticisms are subjective issues, whether a reviewer likes it or not is up to the consumer when they try it to see if they enjoy it

I will never use this forum to judge anything that happens in real life. People who post in this forum don't represent how the world is. For example with the amount of bashing the iphone receives on this forum, I was suprised that for a lot of people the iphone is too complicated for them and actually has too many features, who would have thought. :D

I disagree with this new move.
Why limit people? Options are always a good thing.

P.S. When are the iPhone and other iPods going to be updated to support the full use of the new remote headphones? Wasn't it just a software issue because it has the same connectors as the old headphones?

I think it's just hideous. And I don't like the idea of controlling everything with a button on the headphones, especially when I'm stuck to expensive Apple headphones. I want a fast and simple way of navigation. What is Apple doing lately? New innovation to 'improve' things that worked well?

please.... not everything apple does is "good"

as you can tell from this thread, many people dont find it "good" lol

please dont drink the apple kool aide and subsequently believe they can not make any mistakes due to the fact they are apple......

Don't be one of those people that says that just because someone likes a particular product that they're an "apple fanboy". There are, and have been, plenty of things that I haven't been ecstatic about that Apple has done in the past. This product, however, is "cute". I like it. Sorry that your world has crumbled around you because they released it.

Same goes for apple's R&D team - you all might think that this complaining is helping but its plain to see that you don't represent the masses. This will only be shown through sales. If the sales for this model are bad compared to older versions, and of course there's that chance, then its a bit obvious why... it doesn't take a bunch posts of slagging off every new feature to work that out.

Fortunately, sales speak for themselves. We will see!

The size is great but it's a bit bland looking.
Controls on the earphones - bad.
Voiceover, i think i'd get sick of hearing a computer voice.
...and the price - bad.

No Buy!

I looked at the specs for the new iPod shuffle and frankly--no thanks!

It's a good thing I recently bought this:

Not only does the SanDisk SANSA Clip costs US$30 less from online retailers for the same 4 GB storage capacity, but you have these advantages:

1) A real onscreen display.
2) Reasonable navigation controls.
3) Built-in FM tuner.
4) Excellent sound quality.
5) You can use any headphone with a 3.5 mm stereo phone jack.

If SanDisk updates the firmware on the player to support 256 kbps VBR data rate AAC files (iTunes Plus format), it would put the new shuffle out of business in no time flat.

Yeah I'm sure most people will be buying Sansa's over iPods.

Surprisingly, the SANSA Clip has proven to be one of SanDisk's most popular products in a long, long time. Users love it for its excellent sound quality and the fact that unlike the iPod shuffle, you have a real display and pretty reasonable battery life (about 15 hours).

So when does iPhone/ iPod Touch talk?

Like my title...
When will we see this head to iPod Touch and iPhone, since it is only software?

But Sansas don't work with Macs. Or at least the low end ones don't work well (the high end ones, IIRC, don't work at all with Macs). I've gotten better at timing my removal of my Sansa Express. Suffice it to say, I'd rather have gotten a shuffle (but $10 for a refurbished 1GB Sansa is too hard to resist).

I just realize with buttons on cord near the neck, I can use right arm to change track, and display maximum bicep flexion. Using left arm I can cross in front of body & flex left bicep, left deltoids, and both pectoral muscles. This enables me to display musculature without being accused of conspicious vanity.

Thank you StevenJobs

Ok, so i was at the gym tonight and thought of this new shuffle when i went to sip some water from the water fountain. As usual, the wire from my headphones got into the path of the water. Wonder what would happen it the water landed on the remote thing on the headphone cord????? I'm so annoyed with Apple for putting this out. I just don't get it. As it is the supplied earbuds don't stay in my ear. The least the could have done for a $79 shuffle was supply the in ear style earbuds instead of those flat, uncomfortable, impossible to stay in the ear style. I wish the previous shuffle came in black or white. I don't like the colors and silver is just boring.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

People are mostly complaining about the proprietary headphones. That's what most of the frustration is about.

Proprietary is the wrong word to use. Any company can (and already does) make headphones that work with this iPod. If it was proprietary, only Apple could make headphones that would work with the device.

This is awful. Aside from being an aesthetic failure, the new shuffle has no buttons so you're stuck with Apple's shittastic headphones.

No thanks.

According to this article, the high-end Sansa Clips work just fine with Macs:

Thank you to the person who first posted about these Sansa players. I'm very likely to get one.

I was referring to the entire Sansa line. The Clip is the low-end model. The high-end models are the ones that, IIRC, absolutely rely on WMP and can't use Windows Explorer for management.

When I say it doesn't work well, it comes somewhat from personal experience (considering the Clip is essentially the Express in a different body, the same issue could apply). It works fine and all, but the ejecting problem, at least for my Express, is a problem. If you eject at the wrong time, you crash the device and it freezes. But it works with the Mac. Kinda.
