The cost of a shuffle in Australia has gone up from $65 to $129.
Apples new plan for the economic downturn - DOUBLE the price of EVERYTHING!
Good strategy.
This is what happens when Steve Jobs isn't at the helm. I bet history is going to repeat itself all over again. The next time Microsoft infuses money into Apple though, we won't have Steve Jobs to see the Phoenix rise.
Someone please tell me Steve Jobs has found the fountain of youth.
My guess is that apple simply can't afford to sell shuffles at £31 anymore in this current economic market.
If true, a new shuffle of similar design would have to be re-priced higher as has been the case in numerous other products made in the far east (im looking at you canon!), which would not look well considering that apple consumers are used to upgrades that give more at any given price point.
The answer: to introduce a new product at a slightly higher price point and market its lack of features as beneficial, rather than detrimental, to the consumer.
Enter the new shuffle, no screen, no controls, less battery life, but more memory (the cost of 4gigs now is very low) and a higher price tag. To make, the 3rd gen must be somewhere close to the 2nd, but apple are able to charge twice as much for it.
Very disappointed apple, very.
But yeah. This makes it pointless for running. I use Sennheiser PMX70 sport headphones. I'll stick with my old shuffle.
better hope my 2nd gen lasts i have never even bothered to open my apple headphones as they are worthless
boycott the new shuffle!
not digging the controls on the headphone
what was wrong with the old shuffle?
scratch that, what was wrong with the stick shuffle? at least with that one i could use it as a usb drive lol

It's like robbing Peter to pay Paul in the size department. What's the point of removing the the controls, only to have them be elsewhere? You haven't actually saved any bulk that way. You've gained nothing. But Apple gains one more sale from those people who have third-party headphones.
it's just not as easy to do so.
It looks like we are not communicating.Took 3 seconds to search. Here is one from Shure that has 4 pins
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZPOPIS/
it is stated in a review that it works with iPod touch.
There are adapters with buttons and microphone
that will allow you to connect any headphones to it.
The 2nd Gen Shuffle used a 4 pin USB cable and had a 4 pin dock. The new USB cable from Apple.
Hope not since it will use Apple's earphones. The next version of the Shuffle will simply be a pair of earphones with buttons on the cord. They'll attach to nothing.
Is this correct? There is no way to go back to the beginning of a song or to the prior song?no way to rewind?
Agree. I've tried many different headphones over the years to find ones that stay in during working out, skiing, etc.For working out, people have special earphones that work with their ear shape and will not fall off easily. I happen to have the Sony rubber loop-hanger type and am very happy with the fit. Some of the over-the-ear models don't stay on that well, but these do (for me...for someone else, another brand might be better). This issue is completely separate from the issue of sound quality.

It's not pointless for running, you just have to make adjustments (an adapter and using buttons on the headphones rather than the player itself).
