it took me a couple of times to get it working, but I got it eventually. It's sweet!

(I saw it like a minute after the news showed up, and I sitting there thinking sh**! I wont make the rush! Well, luckily, I did.)

guys, earlier today, when apple first launched the firmware, some people were able to download it without having to pay.

it's online now, the drm free version of this firmware that you are all paying 10 bucks for.

hello

If I told you there was a way to upgrade without paying would anyone believe me? if I told you all you need was bittorrent would you believe me? ......... well I'll just say that you should.

Will newly purchased iPod touches have the firmware update, or will I have to pay for this too?
If so, Apple and Nintendo should strike up a coalition on how they treat their customer's wallets.

Hey Guys,

I've done the right thing, I paid the $10 for the copy of the firmware upgrade. Question though, if you have more than one iPod Touch associated with the one computer, does Apple make you buy the firmware upgrade a second time or is it content that it has been purchased once and allow you to install it onto your other Touch?

yeah somehow I got it free as well the official build 2.0 (5A347) through iTunes. Earlier i had installed the leaked beta then heard that people were successfully downloading so i tried to restore to 1.1.4 which somehow bricked my iPod for a bit(scared the crap out of me!) then after hitting the restore button a few times it went and downloaded the firmware off the iTunes server without asking me to pay for it. Very Weird :/

This is ridiculous. I have paid for the 2.0 firmware, I have downloaded the 2.0 firmware via iTunes (six different times now!), I have backed-up my iPod Touch, I have tried to installed the 2.0 firmware and every single time it gets to restoring the iPod Touch my computer tells me that it went into recovery mode (and it does) and the little iTunes logo with the plug appears and I get an error message.

When in the world is Apple going to fix this? I must have bricked and un-bricked my iPod Touch 12 times today!, because of Apple's bad 2.0 firmware.

iTunes cards are only for Music and Videos etc. Apple gift cards are different story. You could still use it to buy the Apps or Games.

That's what I did. I spend around $50 in the first hour until I had to lock away my credit card. Not nice Apple. All these eye candy apps make me wanna have them all. =)

thanks:apple:iLoveu

Actually I used iTunes Cards for the January update. The credit card requirement seems like a Canada-only issue.

the best thing in app store and ipod touch firmware is that apple seems to understand about currency and charge the firmware for 7€ not 9€ (9$). this seems to take place to app store too. nice!

They should at least give us half off on the upgrade.
Why?

Hmm, sorry, but too late.
Why again?

Mines been stuck for over 8 minutes on restoring!!!! UGH APPLE!!!
It takes time.

OK, it's downloading!!!!! I swear, if there is one bug with 2.0, I'll be on the phone bitching out some customer service representative! I've been up for almost 60 hours without even laying down waiting for Mobile Me and this, it had better be perfect Apple!
Suggest RL 101 for while. :)

Any ideas, as to why the update required the iPod to be wiped?
It's a major upgrade. As you should do with any major operating system upgrade, your should back up your files and install the OS from scratch for the best reliability.
Beat me to it.

I've gotten to this point as well. I've been at this screen for a few minutes now. How long should I expect this to take?
Once here, then it sync's so it depends how much information, music, movies, etc. that you have on your Touch.

I just woke up (2:09AM EDT). Am I dreaming? Surely I must be. If not, I think it may be a while b4 going back to bed. (Super Monkeys, I'm coming, wait for meeeeee!)

Hmmmm, It says I've only got 7.08 gigabytes (8Gb iPod, obviously) after loading. I thought the original came with 7.4 or something, so is this update take up that much space? Arggg, they should call it a 7 Gb iPod.

By the way, the torrent sites already have this update available as a restore image for the Touch. It's build "5A345". It works perfectly and is indistinguishable from a purchased version.
