Tomorrow is February 1. Maybe Apple will surprise everyone and ship MacBook Pro. :)

I'm quite sure that although I ordered mine at 9 am the morning after the keynote, about 15 hours after they were available, I will probably not see mine until March. Apple is notoriously bad at supplying their authorised resellers and yet they won't sell to me directly..... I have moaned and moaned about this issue on these forums and none of you seem to have any sympathy  Apple why won't you just ship to Jersey and make us pay a premium....

when I call Apple they claim it is because they are supporting the local resellers, now there's a first.

Anyway... the sooner they ship the sooner I get one.... so here's to hope. :)

Edit: I am on the phone to Apple as we speak to ascertain why this has happened... it is being covered in the local press (we don't have much to worry about ;)). I think my first Blog when I get iWeb will be a rant about this.....

Speaking to the guy at the Apple store and he tells me that he has received the query dozens of times...

Edit 2: I am still ranting about this one on the phone...and I must say that I am getting really quited p*ssed off.. all I keep getting told is that an instruction came down from management... how annoying is that...I have been a loyal apple user for close to 6 years, have made it my mission to take on anyone that dares to attack Apple or support Windows, have converted 10 users and counting and they screw me over like this....

If I were just a tad more annoyed I'd be phoning to cancel my order and then log onto www.dell.co.uk..... unfortunately, Apple customer service in Europe sucks and they F**k us over repeatedly and yet only the insane would move to dell... sh*t I'm starting to twitch....

That is true, and it's what I meant by saying that it is non-standard. It was probably similar to how a SCART connector can carry both, only in this case it was definitely an "S-Video cable."

SCART can carry both because its spec includes some pins for audio - it has 21, so plenty to spare for RGB, several sorts of sync, audio and assorted data. The standard S-Video connector has 4 pins. Two for signal. Two for their grounds. Not much room to do anything with that. I suppose if you were feeling adventurous, you could modulate the audio on top of the video, somehow, or on some kind of differential between grounds, or something else equally nasty. But I've yet to see anyone do that. You can find some 6-pin minidin connectors on AV equipment, these sometimes carry S-Video spec video, and audio too. But to go with tem, you also often get cables with 6-pin minidin on one end, and 4-pin minidin plus RCA or 3.5mm jack on the other, for plugging into an S-Video socket and appropriate audio inputs.

Yeah, but does it run Vista ? XP even ? I seriously doubt it.

I'm not defending Windows here, but just for reference my old 300MHz PII Dell ran XP Pro just fine with only 128MB of RAM.

I understand what SCART connectors are, that's why I referenced them in my statement :) Also, there are also 7 pin "S-Video" connectors. My PowerBook's S-Video out is a 7 pin female. Here's a pinout for reference :)

Note that the three extra pins can be used to carry various other signals.

That said, I was already done with this conversation ;)

I am new to posting on this forum but I have been visiting for some time now thanks to all of the knowledgeable users out there that have made my mac experiennce so much fun. Trying to decide if I wanted to take the plunge and get the new macbook pro. Well I just ordered it and my confirmation states it should be delivered by March 3rd. That kinda sucks but oh well take the good with the bad I suppose.

Hopefully Apple is being conservative and you get it sooner. Congratulations on your purchase!

It states shipping by February 28th and receiving by March the 3rd. I would like to think I would get it sooner but then again, I have heard the retail stores will be the first to get them. I also added a few upgrades so that might make a difference as well.

You also ordered quite late on. Those of us who ordered on the day of announcement (Jan 10th iirc) have a week or so to wait till ours ship!

Very true all of which is understanding, it's just going to be really hard to wait. If anyone is interested I have a powerbook for sale!

Don't tease. Please. I just finished my copy of O'Reilly's Mac OS X tiger Edition: The Missing Manual I now have nothing to do but kill time waiting. I may pick up AppleScript: The Definitive Guide, Second Edition to further kill time. I'm slowing going nuts here pretty much visiting the Apple store twice a week now. I know several, more, of the staff there on a first name basis.
Do they make a 12 step program for this?

Speaking of shipping. Does anyone know if its possible to have your order shipped to the local Apple store? I ask because there is NO way I'm going to be home to receive the system, and having it shipped to where I work isn't an option, and having UPS/Fedex/whoever would be a further drive then going to the Apple store.

I think they might, but you'd need to talk to someone at the Apple Store to figure it out for sure. They might be able to alter your order to ship there.

you all have it pretty good.
i ordered my macbook pro (no upgrades) from amazon on the 28th.
estimated shipping April friggin' 6th. i'm almost thinking about cancelling my order and ordering from somebody else.

(i don't know if the rebate is worth the wait!)

I almost went with amazon but I wanted a larger hard drive and a couple of other upgrades.

Mine still seems to be on schedule for shipping on the 7th..although I keep checking to see if it's shipped a little early!

I can hope!

Mine seems on schedule as well for it's Feb 15th ship date. I'm hoping mine will ship before then, but who knows... I grow closer and closer to insanity waiting for it.

Has anyone checked their Apple stores? A guy I know in New York said his local one has a MacBook Pro and he messed with it a little.

My local store said they wouldn't receive them till the middle of the month.

Would be nice, I just had a look..still down!

*keeps fingers crossed for shipping notice*

To be honest I'm expecting the change to be that the expected date displayed when browsing will go out to March. I don't think shipping will move forward!

Don't talk like that... we have to remain hopeful! Besides, if there are some Apple Stores that really have some in-store, I would think they'd be finished with the production by now and are just mass producing them to ship out.
