To everybody that will buy the magic trackpad, what do you hope to gain out of it? What will you use it for? What new ways of doing things may come about from this new product?

ever heard about "better touch tool" ? if not, i'd say try googleing it ;)

i think apple sees this going on coffee tables just as much as it does on desks. this is a media center dream.

I've been searching for months for a wireless keyboard with a built-in trackpad for my HTPC Mac Mini. I've been using a crappy Brando model (that was still pretty expensive). This looks awesome, but it needs to be integrated into the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard for it to be really useful to me.

Odd Apple took the AA battery route. Seems so 1980s. Would have preferred a internal battery w/ usb charger. That certainly would have been cleaner. Hopefully this trackpad is light on the juice so frequent charges won't be necessary.

iWant! Apple stand back and take a bow, this is hardware brand integration at it's finest. This really is the important link in the chain between the multi-touch user interface on all apple devices. Well done.

From the blurb on the website about the battery charger...

Each Apple Battery Charger comes with six NiMH batteries — two for your keyboard, two for your mouse or trackpad, and two for charging.

Hmm, well my Apple wireless keyboard takes three AA batteries which has proved to be a PITA as all chargers I've seen can only take 2 or 4 batteries so this one will be no exception - or has Apple changed the wireless keyboard to only use two batteries?

EDIT: Just checked on the Apple site and the current keyboards do take two batteries. The ones in the refurb store (where I bought mine) take three

I'd absolutely love that! But what, $65 or £60? That is really messed up.
A definite no-buy.

Apple UK are also selling a wallcharger for rechargeable AA batteries at £25? What the hell. I bought a fast charger years ago with 4x3200mAh AA's for £9.99.

What have Apple been smoking lately?

not a big fan of this thing, a traditional mouse feels much more efficient and comfortable.

I hate laptop track pads, I don't know why people would want these for their macs

Generally so do I, however the Apple glass trackpads have me converted.

I still can't abide the standard fit Alps etc fitted to most Windows laptops.

If it was more sensible money I'd have one to go with my Mac mini...

Yep, the slim alu type take two.

Apple didn't specify the capacity of the rechargeable batteries.

If anything less than 2300 mAh you'd be better off being Energizer or similar.

The latest keyboards only use 2 batteries:

What are the dimensions?

This is from the Apple Store website: "And it’s nearly 80 percent larger than the built-in trackpad on the MacBook Pro, giving you plenty of room to perform gestures."

That's the best I got. Seems pretty sizable. They also show a picture of it next to a wireless keyboard, where the keyboard is barely in the shot, which can be used for reference. My work computer won't let me attach the image though.

The new ones use two. At least mine does. My old one that I got with an iMac used three and it was quite annoying.

I use a mac mini for a HTPC - i'm so getting one. Perfect for when i'm laying down and want more functionality then the apple remote can provide.

Ah, I see it. Thanks.

Hopefully you can use "bettertouchtool" with it and the combination of the two means you can do almost everything you want with one hand....

What do I hope to gain out of it? Well I find my MBP trackpad to be much faster to use and more precise compared to all trackpads and mouses I have ever used before. And it feels more natural.

What will I use it for? Duh, as a input device, to point, click, drag.

What new ways of doing things may come about from this new product. Multi gestures will make the workflow easier and more natural.
