Can it be used with the MacMini? No option...

Hi,

I'd like to know if I order a Mini (std, not the server) can the Trackpad be used with it...

Or is there a reason it's not listed in the "Options" like the iMac?

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure someone at Apple got confused...people buy portable mice to get away from trackpads, not the other way around :p

Wow, I'm surprised to see so many people on here who have clearly never used Better Touch Tool with their trackpads.

I thought the same thing about trackpads, and was right: Stock functionality = next to pointless, but with BTT = the most useful and ergonomic input device ever.

This plus a Wacom Cintiq will do everything better than anything.

I just wish there was a simple USB plug, to connect it to the side of my wired keyboard, & never have to screw around with batteries & create more waste... Nice going apple.

personally I've always found mice more precise than trackpads...and apple trackpads more precise than mice

I'm sure there's plenty of proof out there that a mouse is still more precise, but this kind of trackpad just makes me feel more like im interacting with what I'm doing. It'll be a nice thing to have

now to see if someone can cook up some windows drivers for this (my laptop is a Mac, but my desktop is a PC...nothing quite like building your own. Wish it was easier to do that with a Mac)

Yes it can. It will connect through bluetooth.

If they included pen with it so it can be used as graphic tablet as well - it would be an instant buy...

Like this - pass... :(

Absolutely. The stock functionality is nice, but BTT really makes my MacBook Pro trackpad a joy to use. When web browsing, I use three finger swipe gestures to go back and forward on the site, I use four finger gestures to invoke Expose (though Snow Leopard later added that). It's so much faster and more fluid than using a mouse, or any other trackpad by any other company.

The one thing that still sucks about the MacBook Pro trackpad is its Windows support. I have a newer model that doesn't have a separate physical button, and Windows keeps registering both the finger I initially use to navigate and the finger I use to click (often my thumb). Mac OS X is smart enough to ignore the second finger input within a certain range of motion, knowing it's for clicking, whereas Windows does not. But it's a great experience in OS X.

"The Magic Trackpad can be configured to support single button or two button commands and supports tap-to-click as well as a physical click."

I don't know why, but for some reason I imagined it without the ability to physically click. Glad it does, though!

Yes it clicks.

The largest Multi-Touch trackpad ever.
Magic Trackpad is just like the trackpad on the MacBook Pro — but bigger. It’s made with the same advanced touch-friendly and wear-resistant glass surface. But with nearly 80 percent more area, it’s the largest Multi-Touch trackpad made by Apple. So there’s even more room for you to scroll, swipe, pinch, and rotate to your fingers’ content. And since the entire surface is a button that clicks, you can use it in place of a mouse.

This is awesome! Talk about a productivity boost! I plan to put the trackpad on my left to use mainly as an application switcher, expose, spaces, closing down windows and browser tabs, creating new ones, and for special gestures like pinching and zooming. Then put Apple's bluetooth keyboard in the middle and the magic mouse on the right.

Especially for browsing the web and doing research this would be nice! You can have your left hand on the trackpad for manipulating programs, tabs, and windows and your right hand on the magic mouse for scrolling and selecting all at the same time.

And with the Better Touch Tool app the possibilities are now endless.

Battery Charger...

oh my... they are now offering a simple battery charger and make it sound they reengineered lunar lander. It's just a battery charger, and it even doesn't look different than others, really. Sometimes it would be nice to not overshoot in the PR department *all* the time.
Imagine the guy who was tasked with providing the text for a full web page.

"Vampire draw"... ROTFL!

I know, right?!?

It is so confusing they would come out with something on that scale. I was hoping for something that would compete with the Wacom tablet. Oh well. :S

Getting this thing. Using it with the ipad!! I HATE THE MAGIC MOUSE, and it would be cool to remove myself from my mbp keyboard and trackpad.

Does anyone know if it is in the stores?

Why/how would you use the trackpad in conjunction with the iPad?

Was hoping for a touch screen keyboard on it as well but there's always the next generation..

Beyond that, I would of preferred it to somehow "connect" physically with the keyboard so when I'm lazing in bed I don't have to grab two pieces of equipment when I could of just picked up the joined. Scotch tape anyone?!

I will definitely buy this, it would be nice to have a trackpad bigger than the one on MBP. Gotta go to the shop soon to grab one.

To everybody that will buy the magic trackpad, what do you hope to gain out of it? What will you use it for? What new ways of doing things may come about from this new product?

I'll use it for all the same tasks that I use a mouse for. To me innovation isn't just about creating new functions, but doing the same functions better. The iPad is a perfect example of this.
