maybe it's just me... I'm testing the captain beta but I see nothing different except for the notes, the split screen, and a few tiny things. Is this a new IS? Because they look like bad cries of features I get from outlook.com. It's disappointing.

People complained of bugs in Yosemite so this year they are focusing on Stability and Performance. Of course for us users who didn't have problems with Yosemite are now complaining about the lack of new features in El Capitan. Apple Engineers lose either way.

Outlook 2011 is STILL not working. Really surprising that this hasn't bubbled up more. I know it's not their primary e-mail client, but Outlook is pretty prevalent, it's not like it's some small third party software.

It isn't Apples job to make 5 year old third party software to work on modern operating systems. It's the other way around. Call MS.

I installed the update on my MacBook Pro Retina (Mid-2012) and found it to be much faster and more stable than the previous betas. All applications seems to work well in this version, which wasn't necessarily the case in previous betas. The Finder sidebar bug has been squashed and the overall product feels closer to a finished version on my Mac.

And you think that the past 2 years apple produced such good software???
One bug after another! It is starting to look more and more like windows!

If you had watched the keynote address you would've heard them say it was a performance upgrade with some features added.

Installed this beta and the issue I am having still is not fixed that started with the last beta. Any application that would use the data from Calendar does not work. The ONLY application, other than calendar that has been able to use calendar info is BusyCal2. Other apps that would normally use the data and not working is:
Fantastical 2
OmniFocus 2
Calendar Widget in Notification Center (Surprising since this is Apple's own Widget)
Desktop Informant (This software is also in an early release or beta, but was working great until the last OS X beta came out)
Opus 1
2Do
Outlook 2016

The iOS versions of many of the above mentioned apps works just as normal. Seems the problem only exists on the Mac OS X.

anyone having an issue when splitting messages app with another app on screen?

Do you understand the concept of Beta software, at all?

Please explain to us why it's Apples job to make their beta OS to work with third party apps? Because in the real world, this is why developers are given beta releases to work out their problems.

Does anyone know how to switch from a developer beta to the public beta? Thanks!

I can't see why, because the public betas mirror the developer beta releases at that time.

If you wanted to, you have to sign up to Apples public beta program, then you'll be sent an email with a link inviting you to trial the public beta. You can then download it from there, but do not install it on your main system. Install on a partition or external drive.

I hope I have waited enough, because I'm thinking about taking the plunge to Public Beta... I'm worried though - my Mac is my main machine but I also really really want to try the new OS... Dont mind a few bugs here or there, but I REALLY need Adobe CC to work properly... Can anyone confirm there are no major problems?

You should never install a beta OS over your main system. Create a partition and install it there, then you can test out all your apps without losing your current setup. There are plenty of how tos out there. Here is the best. Link.

I'm on dev beta 5 but I believe it's the same as pub beta 3.

Notification Centre seems to have been locked down so much most things can't access the internet or other apps. Whoops. Calendar and reminders are both empty. Stocks doesn't update. I don't think anything is capable of playing an alert sound; at least the alerts still work.

Three-finger word lookup works (was broken for me in previous betas).

The wiggle-your-cursor-to-make-it-bigger thing has been made much harder to activate although there's still no way to just turn it off.

Photos has a "reduce motion" option although I've not played with it enough to work out what it actually reduces.

FaceTime's call logs aren't updating. Oddly, on my iPhone (iOS9 beta 2) each call is now listed separately rather than just the contact name which opened up to show all the made/received/missed calls. I preferred the latter (old) method.

In dev beta 5, the only method to disable SIP is via booting into Recovery and toggling the option; the nvram rootless option is no longer supported. Maybe pub beta 3 is the same.

Someone asked about switching from dev to pub betas - my understanding is that it's not possible as they're all deltas. You'd need to find and install the first 10.11 pub beta (which has to be a full install) then the deltas beta2 and beta3.

Microsoft would much prefer you use Outlook 2016, which is the currently shipping version. I use it at work and can tell you it's much improved from 2011! Actual push email and even uses the system notifications. Also much easier to look at. Of course everything was a step up from the Lotus Notes I had to use prior...
