You're not a developer, are you? There's no way they could catch all the bugs, even if they extended the Apple TV release another five years.
Basic functionality should be ironed out before shipping the product. But what do I know? I'm not a developer. And if it's not fixed in a year or two? I have no right to complain because I gave them my money. I'm not a developer.

They have 80,000 beta testers at their disposal called employees. They could be doing a much better job. And I am a developer.

Employees at large do not beta test.

Me, too. It won't stay asleep for more than 10 minutes. Have to keep the new Apple TV unplugged until I want to use it. That's cool, right?

Possibly the remote is being touched accidentally which will power on the system, thanks to HDMI link.

This was happening to me too. A fix was to quit all the running apps. Extremely annoying.

Yes, thanks to multitasking, one now has to close apps to free up the RAM for glitch free operation.

This is the type of update that one wouldn't expect from a polished product. Why release new hardware and software if a stability and general improvement update was just around the corner. I don't like this general attitude of release it now, fix and improve it later.
Learn some basic software development and you'll be amazed that anything works at all, let alone has a few issues that need patching shortly after release.

Everything's faster.

BUT they've removed the independent wish list!
So perhaps they're going to finally integrate it with main account soon.

The Good: only took a few minutes to update.
The Bad: Looks like this update does nothing to address the horrible on screen keyboard, not being about to connect bluetooth keyboards, and not updating it to work with the iOS Remote App.

Decided that I'll take mine back this weekend if they don't "fix" the keyboard issue by then. Don't want to fall into the issue I did with my Apple Watch in waiting for fixes and improvements that never came and being outside of the return window.

If you're expecting another software update this week to fix all of those issues, then you might as well box it up and return it today.

Anyone else having issues with Music streaming on ATV4 64GB? The mini twos update did not solve the issue ;(. It's only on Apple music, having the monthly subscription .. after, 1, 2 tracks music stops. With web radios all fine, no issues..

Yea that's brutal. I haven't had issues, but maybe you could just turn off the hdcec or whatever it is called on your TV for now until you can pinpoint the issue. Maybe some kind of Bluetooth interference? I really know nothing about that stuff, but that sucks.

The onscreen keyboard in the Search app has returned to its previous grid layout, as opposed to the one horizontal row. Given the sentiment on this forum a number of people will likely be pleased.

I however preferred the "old" new one. I always got lost on the grids and found I could more quickly enter things from the single row (as that's how I've seen the alphabet laid out since grade school...).

I did. Only way we can let them know is voting with or without or dollars. I'm sure in 12 months it'll be worth getting.

Right, decided that before the update came out today. So I don't expect them to update again this week. But I also live 40 minutes or so from the closest Apple Store which is why I said this weekend.

Consider this, if they were to allow bluetooth keyboards and any sort of pages clone, you would have a $150 mac mini fighter. For this reason, I'm expecting poor keyboard support.

That's a really interesting thought -- just hookup to a 21" monitor and launch Pages or Google Docs -- maybe a browser like Safari we all know is possible. Cheaper than an iPad or a Chromebook.

(With more kids doing homework online, I am now sure it will never be possible exactly because we would totally do it at our house.)

Then we'll most likely never have a ton of apps that require any kind of typing then. So that eliminates Facebook, Twitter, any web browsing apps...pretty much a whole ton of app possibilities gone out the window with no keyboard support.

So much for what Tim Cook said about this new AppleTV being all about the apps. Between this and tv apps that require cable athentication, that makes this new AppleTV pretty useless except for being able to play games.

I might as well sell mine now if what you're saying ends up being true as I really won't have much use for it then.

Anyone have any luck training the remote for audio receiver volume after this update that could not train before?

Mine was able to do that prior to the update.

Sadly not, but I've just discovered my TVs remote (Sony Bravia) can be used to navigate the Apple TV

Ditto most functions on my Harmony remote. It had been set up for ATV3, i've made no changes to setup.

What the hell are you posting? Dude take a look at your own post. At some point it will dawn on you that posting Android adoption stats fails, spectacularly I might add, to address anything in the post you replied to. The "logic" used to conflate OS adoption rates and unpolished products is truly, as you so aptly put it, L O ***** L.

The "logic" serves my and others argument perfectly in fact thank you ;)... In fact I'll repost it now to share the realities of what either not updating or not even being allowed to update can do to ones devices.

Basically it sounds like your implying that it's better to buy a device that can basically be bricked or outdated (per say) by not being able to be updated versus a company that routinely supports all its recent devices to ensure they operate and safely I might add (to the best of their ability) ? Is that right? That chart you blasted obviously raises your ire because it's proof positive that other platforms are failing its customers at the ability to update and foremost protect themselves.
Get real man.

So to be clear I'm in full support of updates on all my devices whenever Apple feels like it - yea even if it's the same week the product goes on sale. Big deal. Thank you :)

Yes, that's what would make this thing sell better. A devise that could do those basic things like word processing or spreadsheets or web browsing without having to spend an arm and a leg for a traditional devise.

Most people only use a PC for web browsing, Word, Excel, Facebook, Twitter, etc. You shouldn't have to spend $500.00 for a PC or tablet just to do those basic things.

Why not on the new AppleTV? I don't see this new devise being much better than the older models otherwise except for the ability to play games.

I don't see any reason why they can't make ATV4 (tvOS) compatible with the current app. They should be able to release a fix from either side.

HUH??? And you know this how? Are you a programmer? Are you an Apple programmer? Are you involved in programming the tvOS? If not, then how can you intelligently and logically make such a statement. Where do these statement come from?

Isn't Apple basically doing now what others have been doing for a long time? I would rather get frequent updates than be stuck with bugs and have to wait months (or a year) for a major release. And it's impossible to release software that's bug free.
I believe you responded to the wrong poster.

I think it's fairly reasonable to expect support for an updated UI for the ATV3 since it's still being sold right beside the ATV4.

You should have saved that exclamation point for a better quote; one more deserving of an exclamatory. The poster clearly stated: "While I know most of the "new" stuff won't be available (emphasis mine), it will be nice to get the updated UI and some of the other features like better Netflix support?" As I said prior, I think that is an entirely reasonable expectation. Apple has a history of supporting products for years. Look at iPhones and iPads.

How many years is required? ATV3 was released in 2012. iPhones/iPads tend to be supported for 3 years. So, by those numbers, time is up for ATV3 support.

You're expectations are incredibly unreasonable and silly. Please do take it back. You will be a much happier person if you do.
