We get it Apple, you hate Antiglare screens, but face that facts, more customers than you are willing to acknowledge prefer the matte finish. Pros hate glossy and most people over 30 or 40 hate glossy. We're tired of you playing your little dictatorship game when it comes to this issue. It's time you got over yourselves.

2006 called, it wants its complaints back.

Haven't people figured out by now that Apple decides what's best for you, not the other way around?

apple store for education australia

the configuration of the core i7 15 inch macbook pro, while in the apple store for education australia, are loading up as page cannot be found.

I guess ill just have to wait

Hmm..

I have a macbook rev 1,1 from 2006. I use photoshop a lot.

I've been waiting for the upgrade like everyone else but sadly I was weak and instead of waiting like a good boy I went and bought a new camera, then I bought a new BMW, then I bought an ipad, this week I bought a new projector...

So today the rumors finally came true. I'm underwhelmed with the 13 but it's a big leap from my macbook so I should probably go for it. Just one problem... how do I explain major purchase no 5 to my wife?

well... with the time you'll be spending playing with the new camera, BMW, iPad and projector... maybe it's time to put the wife on ebay anyway

I was hoping for at least a quad core option but it looks like they stuck with the dual core i5s and i7s. But my Macbook Pro vid is fried so there's no better time to upgrade.

Great, but....

Great update, exactly what I wished for but...

Let's make a couple of "European" calculations...
I live in Switzerland (1 USD = 1.05 CHF) so I can compare quite well...

Switzerland:
MacBook Pro 15" (500 GB 7200 rpm, HiRes screen) + 24" cinema display = 4258.00 CHF (4028.00 USD)

USA:
MacBook Pro 15" (500 GB 7200 rpm, HiRes screen) + 24" cinema display + iPad 64 GB (wifi, with iPad Apple case) = 4036.00 USD

IF, and only IF, Apple would uniform prices US to Europe, they would jump in sales dramatically. Increased sales would largely compensate lost revenue. If the market share of Apple would climb in Europe to a level similar to the one they enjoy in the US I think the overall situation would be a WIN.

Besides, the iPad isn't even available on the Swiss shop.

Disclaimer: I calculated also the sales tax and the result for the US shopping would be (California) 4469.00 USD (4723.00 CHF) But I honestly doubt the iPad + case will sell for about 500 CHF (swiss francs) here... So... the difference, a dramatic one, still remains....

couldn't they at least pout i3 on the 13" macbook pro's?

at least the mbp i got a while ago doesn't feel as outdated.

What attracts me to the 13 inch MBP is not even a "pro" feature at all - the 10 hour battery. And, what's so "pro" about a back lit keyboard? In fact, nothing about the 13 inch MBP is "pro". Nevertheless, its a damn good machine. Seems to me that its function is to give people the MBP branding at a reasonable price. But, there's nothing you can do on the 13 inch that you can't do on a plain MB.

i bought the top end MBP less than 2 weeks ago !! ... think i'll be giving apple a call to see if i can exchange or something... !! :(

everyone shut up, you expected something based on what you think should be released and rumors. The 13" got updated but not what you wanted, the 15 and 17" got updated but more than you want to spend. Go buy a damn PC then. I just bought the cheapest 15" with antiglare screen for under $2000 including tax and free shipping. I am very happy with this since I am upgrading from a iMac G5 that is over 5 years old. This laptop will last me for about 4 years. You get what you pay for and I believe a Mac is way better than any PC, it is for what I use it for. People complain because they can't get what they want, can't afford it or have to justify a prior purchase.

You don't like it, SHUT UP

How else will Apple build the products we want, if we don't complain when they don't meet our expectations? I just hope that people complaining with this refresh also vote with their feet and don't buy one - I'm certainly skipping this update!

Wow, feels like even more bitching than usual today, though I guess perhaps not (sometimes I'm on the bitching side, sometimes the happy side, and today mostly on the latter).

I returned my flickering, yellow iMac i7 27 in November, very disappointed, and by the time Apple acknowledged and said they'd addressed the problem, new MBPs were on the horizon, so now I've taken the leap with a new i7/8GB/512SSD 17" MBP! Wahoo!

A little bummed that there's no Blu-Ray or, to a lesser degree USB 3.0, but at least the thing has a current processor and graphics and a reasonable (if stupifyingly expensive, even after EPP) SSD option. They said 2-4 days, so it could even show up this week!

Sh*t! I thought I was gonna be the first one to reply. Other than that, and in regards to the update, I respect the almost-price match for Canadians... We're still paying $50 CAD more than Americans!!!

So make a day trip to Buffalo and go to the Walden Galleria Apple Store.
I currently live an hour away from the one in Syracuse... no big deal.

Thanks man, so if your not doing anything that requires huge graphical processing like games for example.. does it automaticaly switch to the intel intergrated one?

Yes -- as answered in the first response.

Go ahead and ask the same question re-worded a 3rd time. The answer will still be 'yes'.

The smallest 15" MBP with anti glare display is now EUR 2.100 in Germany. That is USD 2.856,- or approx. 25% more than the previous entry level 15" with matt display...

No new MacBook for me for now! :(

The differences are:

i7 Benchmark by Intel
3.06 GHz, 2.93 GHz, and 2.66 GHz core speed
8 processing threads with Intel® HT technology
8 MB of Intel® Smart Cache
3 Channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory

i5 Benchmark by Intel
2.66 GHz and up to 3.20 GHz with Intel® Turbo Boost Technology
4 processing threads
8 MB of Intel® Smart Cache
2 channels of DDR3 1333 MHz memory

We are in different times, the Giga Hertz are not the main feature you should look at. Now there are other factors more important that improves the chip performance and consumption.

You are aware you are linking the DESKTOP versions right? These MBP's have 4MB l3 cash.. don't be a wannabee future mac pro user plx =)

Great, the 15-inch now fulfills all my needs as a computer. I'm ordering one next week through work. :)
